Nah people shouldn't purchase overpriced cards

ZycoFox799d ago

Nvidia and now AMD are upping prices, they have been steadily rising for a while now. Apparently there's loads of stock hanging around in warehouses of certain cards, hopefully that continues and then they'll have no choice but to lower prices.

There's a chance next gen will be much better price/performance, it happened going from 2000 - 3000 series.

FinalFantasyFanatic799d ago (Edited 799d ago )

The GPU market is so borked, I partially blame Nvidia for this (crypto, AI and inflation probably play a significant part too), I'm just sitting on the sidelines with my 1080Ti waiting for an inevitable correction where the prices become more reasonable.

Tapani799d ago

While I agree, the 4090 has a better relative performance/price ration than the 4080. And as the stack goes further down, the price/performance ratio weakens. This is an unfortunate situation, but the 4090 is a one-of-a-kind card this generation and reminds me of the GTX1080ti when it came out. A bit pricey, but just on another level in terms of performance.

DaMist793d ago

This is how i looked at it, I got the 4090 and if one can afford it, i recommend it, all the others in this line up aren't worth it, at all.

Gwiz799d ago

IKR the game is not that great.

frostypants798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

I love how they blamed crypto mining demand, then when that subsided...their prices are still insane.

Them and AMD need to be dragged to court because this looks a lot like collusion between them to fix prices.

Well duh, they'll always want you to buy the latest and greatest.

MadLad800d ago

Nah. I got lucky and actually found a 3080 at MSRP early on.
I'm good with upgrading for a while, until these guys get their heads out of their own asses and stop trying to put scalper priced hardware on the market as their MSRP.

darksky799d ago

I got the 3080FE at MSRP after using a discord alert during the mining boom. I certainly won't be paying over $1000 for any gpu. Next upgrade I'll go AMD since they are usually cheaper and offer top notch raster performance. RT is just too much of a performance hog for what it offers.

NVIDIA & CDPR Devs Recommend A Powerful PC With RTX 50 GPUs To Run Cyberpunk 2077 Ultra Path Tracing

FPS_D3TH799d ago (Edited 799d ago )

I have a 3080… miss me with getting a power sucking 4000 series card just for better DLSS. The card has very minor benefits over higher end 3000 series cards without dlss.

Can anyone explain to me why dlss 3 cannot run on a 3080?

Duke19799d ago

How else would they sell 40 series cards? It’s absolutely software gated

FPS_D3TH799d ago

That’s exactly my feelings as well… but I’m hoping there’s an actual technical limitation.

TheLigX798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

1000%! they’ve gated off dlss 3, and this has pushed me to wait for intel to get my next card. They want to have a monopoly, plain and simple.

jznrpg799d ago

They want you to buy the newer more profitable card is the only reason

BehindTheRows799d ago (Edited 799d ago )

Actually, the 4090 has a similar power draw to the 3090 Ti, but with better performance of up to 50% (this is without factoring in DLSS). That's not a "very minor difference".

Now as to why DLSS 3.0 can't run on a 3080, well, NVIDIA never said it couldn't...

https://twitter.com/ctnzr/s...

However, it would run with far less efficiency, and thus, give the impression of either a laggy or buggy card, which they wanted to avoid. With new hardware comes new capabilities that require said new hardware to run properly. Has been this way since the inception of technology.

--Onilink--799d ago (Edited 799d ago )

Not saying you have to feel forced to upgrade to 4000 if you already have a 3000, but power sucking?

Every single review for the 4000 cards showed they were noticeably more power efficient than the 3000 cards running at the same specs/caps. Outside of anything else you can rightfully critique about them, they are without a doubt very power efficient

As for DLSS3 running on older hardware, if we go by their claims they dont have a good enough Optical Flow Analyzer. Again, you dont actually have to believe them, but it sounds like a perfectly feasible reason. DLSS3 already introduces some input lag on the 4000 cards, it stands to reason that on lower cards the trade off of input lag would be even higher and just not worthy.

Im still waiting to see someone get it running on older cards to see how it performs (earlier reports of it running on a 2080 were really sketchy and didnt do any measuring of input lag if it was real, which you would assume they could have done at any time since then and yet nothing more showed up, so again, I dont really buy that one)

FGHFGHFGH799d ago (Edited 799d ago )

According to the video, ada lovelace gpus introduced SER(shader execution reordering), which supposedly optimizes gpu workload.

The Nvidia site says forth gen tensor cores? allow 5x more thoughput. <- these are what handle dlss

just_looken793d ago

Old comment but if you get the alert just let you know few months back some smart users got dlss3 working on 30series no issues.

one article there is more out there

its been patched now but proves it can be done.

Nice!!! This will be my first game on Switch 2 together with Mario Kart( and maybe fast fusion too). I didn't buy this before on PS5, now I'm going to play it on Switch 2.

Do you expect him to say anything negative? That said, I imagine it will work just fine.

CDPR please! Make a free Switch 2 upgrade of Witcher 3 or even with a small fee of $2.49 (like Fantasy Life did).

Haven't even touched the first one yet.
