@GotGame818 Which Studios did Sony buy, that left out games ln Xbox? The only studio that didn't already work almost exclusively with Sony before the buyout is Bungie, and Destiny is, afaik, still around on Xbox.
Maybe at the start. But after casual cod players realize their cod games have switched to Xbox they will move over. Most will have no problem changing to Xbox.
Any exclusive is hurt for not being multiplatform... For example, don't you think Sony or Nintendo would earn more money by releasing their exclusives on all platforms?
As for Microsoft, if Gamepass isn't a huge success, I can see them abandoning the Xbox and becoming a multiplatform developer/publisher in the future.
You are right. For example, COD I believe just made about $800M from sales alone, most I will guarantee came from Playstation. COD going to GP would cut of the money from sales on Xbox and if it ever leaves Playstation, I will bet COD will more than likely not even chart well at all.
I personally think this is good for other games if COD loses its sales crown
Didn't Microsoft themselves say, they did a study and just about 3% will switch if COD leave Playstation? Even if you that is a lie, most will not switch, a small % might, but with games such as Apex or Fortnite constantly being among the top most played games. People have more options than they did in past. COD leaving is not a guarantee players will follow
Agree 100%. Spider-Man on PS4 sold as well as Fallout 4 on all platforms. So for everyone waiting on Starfield to buy an Xbox, there is someone waiting for Spider-Man 2 to buy a PlayStation. It’s bummer that Starfield won’t come to PlayStation. It’s not dealbreaker.
Not even close to the number of consoles Spiderman 2 will shift though. They couldn't have picked a worse time to delay starfield to. Spiderman 2s sales will dwarf starfields.
I’m a huge fan of Bethesda. I can only hope starfield would come to PlayStation. If it does it’s a win for me if it don’t then it’s cool. I’ll live. Im not buying another Xbox. And that’s hoping that Starfield don’t have a ton of bugs (something tell me it will). That would be the worst P.R. To happen to Xbox.
It'll be a big year for both. Spiderman, FFXVI, Silent Hill, Stellar Blade, PSVR2, n perhaps TLOU vs Starfield, Forza, Redfall, Hi Fi. But now that stock is available i don't see XB cutting into the lead. I could understand if PS had a weak 2023 lineup but it's just as strong as XBs on paper. I think PS5 will still outsell XBS this year but it'll be more competitive. Even with Forza, Motorsport isn't as impactful as Horizon. Deathloop was highly rated yet flopped commercially so i don't see Redfall as impactful. Starfield is a monster and will carry XB but PS has two monsters imo with FF and Spidey. It'll be a great year in general though.
1993??? Zipper??? Haven? What does all of this equate to the market leading series call of duty? You're comparing literal nothings to the biggest game on the planet. And not just that game. It's 2 massive publishers and a mobile money making machine.
@edeprez: you are literally creating arguments in your head that I did not initiate or discuss.
I am replying to Mr.Ninosan who said that apart from Bungie, all the other studios acquired Sony acquired worked exclusively with Sony which is evidently not the case.
Most of them yes (that is why I said partially true) but not all.
With regards to the acquisition, I am against it as I previously pointed out in numerous articles, given that it limits options for gamers.
There is no comparison between what MS is doing and Sony but I did not argue that in my reply.
None of the above removed future game-series from any console. All of above were small studios without any big games or names (except Bungie), and became big and popular after they joined Playstation Studios. Still, not a single game-serie continued exclusively on Playstation after a purchase. I never heard anyone ask for a sequel to Shellshock, Dizzy's Candy Quest and Rhino Rumble, but maybe you're one of those few.
If parity is enforced then it won't change anything. COD will srill sell the most on PS. Yes MS will get the money and yes they will be able to make bundles. But that won't lower Sony's market share.
Sorry but I would have to disagree. Imo Cod if it moves over will lose players. Any sort of disruption is not a good thing in terms of growing a userbase.
"It doesn't take a market research firm to point that out."
Well if Spider Man 2´s Venom voice actor,Tony Todd, has any grip on reality, we´ll find out no later than September when Spider Man 2 will be facing Starfield.
Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man will sell way more than Starfield because Starfield will be on gamepass day one. A lot of Xbox and PC gamers are not going to spend $70 dollars on a game when you can play it on gamepass. The good thing is Microsoft will get more gamepass subscribers which they're aiming for anyway 🤔 I can't speak on which game will be better but I do believe Starfield will be more like No Man Sky with better graphics from looking at the previews. BTW most kids, teens, and young adults prefer Spider-Man over a too realistic space rpg shooter that they don't know nothing about
@obscure... If that is the comparative, I know I will be getting SM2 and give SF a try. It's not usually my thing but I do like to at least kick the tires on new titles to see if they interest me. And being on GP is the perfect avenue to do that.
"Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man will sell way more than Starfield because Starfield will be on gamepass day one. A lot of Xbox and PC gamers are not going to spend $70 dollars on a game when you can play it on gamepass."
Oh, I have no doubt that Spiderman 2 will sell like hot cakes. My point is about what game will win the gaming media, the headlines, the social media, critical acclaim, higher metascore... etc. In resume: Which game will be the talk of the town for the rest of 2023 and beyond? That remains to be seen.
@darthv72
"If that is the comparative, I know I will be getting SM2 and give SF a try."
That´s the beauty of being a multi-console owner. ;)
@mkis007
"Well spiderman outsold zelda botw with a year gap by over 3 million 33 vs 30 as of december."
Definitely interested to see which sequel will perform better. Just keep in mind that the PS5 will not take advantage of a larger playerbase as the PS4 back in 2017-2018 despite the fact that Spiderman 2 will move tons of PS5 units. Especially bundles.
Really? They'll get more gamespass subscribers. It has 25 million subscribers... how many copies would a game like starfield have sold? 20 million? Maybe but probably not. Therefore the number of new subscribers won't be substantial .
Seriously, in what bubble do you live in? Spider-Man will have far more mind-share than anything Starfield can ever hope to achieve. Outside of gaming social media, more people know about Spider-Man and with a movie coming out, Sony will no doubt promote the game, with the movie. Reaching more people.
"You shouldn't ask questions if you're afraid of the answer, mate."
There´s nothing to be "afraid" of, dude. Spiderman 2 is the most anticipated game on PS5, Starfield is the most anticipated game on Xbox Series Consoles, PC and XCloud, both games will be fine. Which one will be the best? Time will tell.
Says who? This year, maybe. I don't know a single person who would say Spider-Man is their most anticipated title. If Starfield is the most anticipated game on your side of the fence, fair enough. Generally, PlayStation belts out a ton of unexpected titles so I sincerely doubt we've even heard of the most anticipated game yet. Many of us use "Naughty Dog's next project" as a placeholder for obvious reasons.
Do you have some reading comprehension issues, dude? Both Spider-Man 2 and Starfield will be released THIS YEAR! So it´s more than obvious that I´m talking about most anticipated 2023 games on both Xbox and Playstation!
And there´s no "maybe" fyi. Spider-Man 2 will definitely be the best selling game AND system seller on PS5 this year. So you can quit with your disingenuous ploy bs!
"Many of us use "Naughty Dog's next project" as a placeholder for obvious reasons."
Yeah, good luck with that. Naughty Dog just DECIDED on what to do next, so I wouldn´t bet on a new game from them to be released on the PS5. They barely can keep up with what they already have, which is an old gen project.
Factions was supposed to be released along with TLOU 2 and till this day there´s not even a screenshot of that game. Nevermind gameplay. Druckmann said they will release "more info" later this year. I mean, more info??? Who care???
Naughty Dog is not as fast at development as they used to be during the PS3 era with Henning and Straney. This is nothing but cold hard facts!
"Do you have some reading comprehension issues, dude? Both Spider-Man 2 and Starfield will be released THIS YEAR! So it´s more than obvious that I´m talking about most anticipated 2023 games on both Xbox and Playstation!"
Read your own post. You wrote, verbatim:
"Spiderman 2 is the most anticipated game on PS5, Starfield is the most anticipated game on Xbox Series Consoles, PC and XCloud, both games will be fine."
Shoddy messenger.
"And there´s no "maybe" fyi. Spider-Man 2 will definitely be the best selling game AND system seller on PS5 this year. So you can quit with your disingenuous ploy bs!"
Spider-Man is very likely to perform very well and is very likely to move a ton of PlayStation units. "Maybe" is me admitting that I do not know with certainty that it will beat all other PS5 titles this year. You don't know either. Likely, but maybe not. For what it's worth, you are communicating poorly again: best selling game on PS5 this year? What if God of War Ragnarok sells more? If you don't qualify what you're saying as "games releasing this year", that doesn't exclude earlier titles, just needs to sell the most in 2023. It's also allegedly releasing end of Q3, which does restrict sales window. Spider-Man has wide appeal and it's just before the holiday season. I'd bet on it, but I'm open to being wrong. Also, Final Fantasy XVI with more time on the market and VIII Rebirth possibly competing this Christmas.
"Yeah, good luck with that. Naughty Dog just DECIDED on what to do next, so I wouldn´t bet on a new game from them to be released on the PS5. They barely can keep up with what they already have, which is an old gen project."
They have 2 teams. It is unknown what kind of game it will be. It could be smaller scale than recent works. You say they cannot keep up with what they already have, but THAT is disingenuous: maybe it is similar to Horizon where they are consulting with experts to do something new. Staff from The Witcher III helped GG and the current live service title onboarded Anders Howard. We don't know.
"Factions was supposed to be released along with TLOU 2 and till this day there´s not even a screenshot of that game. Nevermind gameplay. Druckmann said they will release "more info" later this year. I mean, more info??? Who care???"
How's that Halo Infinite split-screen co-op coming along? Fable gameplay? Xbox fanboys fascinate me: for your games, now all of a sudden, you're giving developers time to put out the best game they can. Factions 2? You don't, despite having no interested in actually playing it. It's ready to show when it's ready to show. No rush. Likewise, very little on Hellblade II beyond a facial animation trailer and one gameplay clip. Nothing wrong with that and the tech is impressive. Just extend that courtesy to other titles and behave yourself.
"Naughty Dog is not as fast at development as they used to be during the PS3 era with Henning and Straney. This is nothing but cold hard facts!"
*Straley* Games take longer to make, studios aren't getting slower. You talk about Naughty Dog being more prolific back then, ignoring that each Naughty Dog team made 2 games during Gen 7. PS4 had a remaster, 2 new games, and 1 DLC. PS5 currently has a ground-up remake (not a remaster), a remastered game + DLC, and an upcoming live service game. Not bad. Is Ninja Theory getting slower? They released 4 games during G7 and they haven't made anything this generation yet.
"You say they cannot keep up with what they already have, but THAT is disingenuous: maybe it is similar to Horizon where they are consulting with experts to do something new.
Fair enough, can´t really disagree with your point.
"How's that Halo Infinite split-screen co-op coming along? Fable gameplay?
Unfortunately, 343i had split-screen co-op for Halo Infinite canceled, my be related to technical challenges presented by the Xbox One hardware, not sure.
Fable might be facing the same "issues" you mentioned above regarding Guerrilla´s Horizon and ND´s Factions 2.
"Xbox fanboys fascinate me: for your games, now all of a sudden, you're giving developers time to put out the best game they can. Factions 2? You don't"
I´m not in a hurry for Factions, I don´t even own a PS5 yet. Maybe in the future when true current gen games got released. And yes, I´m all about giving time to ANY developer to fully realize their vision and deliver the best possible game they can. That goes for ALL developers worldwide.
My point with ND is that they´re getting slow and slower at each new generation of consoles. Don´t take my word for it. Just do a research yourself and you´ll see for yourself. The current generation mighty be their worst in terms of game output. Maybe Factions 2 will their only game released on PS5, if their new project turn out to be another AAA game. You cant deny it, but deep inside you know that I´m not into some fanboy FUD bs, because AAA game development of a new IP at Naughty Dog will not take less than 6 years to be developed. Just imagine a AAA Savage Starlight game (a man can dream).
" You talk about Naughty Dog being more prolific back then, ignoring that each Naughty Dog team made 2 games during Gen 7. PS4 had a remaster, 2 new games, and 1 DLC. Good! You already got that covered and you know by a fact they´re indeed getting slower.
Remasters, Remakes and DLCs from RECENT games are not full-fledged NEW AAA games, you can´t spin this. Fast forward to PS5 3 year into the current generation and Naughty Dog still don´t have a single screenshot from Factions 2 to show. This is nothing but cold hard facts, like it or not.
"Ninja Theory getting slower? They released 4 games during G7 and they haven't made anything this generation yet."
Until June 2018, Ninja Theory was never a first party studio so your comparison doesn´t even make sense.
Now as part of Xbox Game Studios, NT has transitioned from an independent developer to full AAA studio! Unlike the original, Hellblade II will be a true current gen AAA game, so it´s more than obvious the team wants to impress and fully achieve their goals regarding the game´s overall quality and as far I can tell, there´s nothing that comes close to Hellblade II´s visuals in the market yet.
And before I foget, fyi, unlike ND, NT is actively working on two simultaneous Xbox Series projects/games. Hellblade II and Project Mara.
A market research firm should also understand the market. It's been tipped on its head thanks to this ABK acquisition and Sony will be playing their cards close unless their hand is forced. This year's release schedule is unusually light for Sony, probably because they can't (or don't wish to) share it in full until they understand what they're up against and when.
This is correct! While Xbox might get some good new releases in 2023, PS also has another year of good new releases. If we compare the bigger AAA titles
PS5 Final Fantasy 16 Spider-man 2 Granblue Fantasy Relink Baldur's Gate III (might come to Xbox later) Forspoken Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth Stellar Blade
PSVR 2 The Walking Dead S&S 2 Horizon call of the Mountain
PS5 expansions Horizon Burning Shores
Xbox Series X Forza Stalker 2 (coming to PS later) Starfield Redfall AOE4
The Xbox won't have any exclusives (games releasing on PC are not exclusive → Final Fantasy XVI and Spider-Man 2 will both only be on PS5 in 2023) and you have no idea what the Metascores will be.
And Forspoken console exclusive (2 years). Even though the reviews don’t give it justice it’s still a pretty decent game. Rare opinion here I’m sure lol.
Except I'm counting one game from Sony as a 1st party..all others could come to Xbox if the devs wanted them to.
Whereas because of recent acquisitions Xbox has tons of IP, that were intended for playstation as well, releasing exclusively on Xbox platforms and not PlayStation.
And 1st party/3rd party = irrelevant. One platform is one platform, and this year, between PlayStation and Xbox, only PS5 has games releasing solely on it.
This time but with COD if Microsoft gets it then there marketshare will rise
It doesn't take a market research firm to point that out.
This is correct! While Xbox might get some good new releases in 2023, PS also has another year of good new releases. If we compare the bigger AAA titles
