botw is not just button mashing. Some of its advance combos are so hard that you really need to study it. Try to check out some of the awesome combos in youtube.
im sorry but what on earth game did you play fart cushion because you must have the directors cut lmao.
if you think no spells, no unique weapons, with only 13 unique enemy types in a giant empty open world is better than elden ring....then something tells me you prob need to gitgud and havent gotten passed the elden ring tutorial lmao.
botw core gameplay was fun, but the game itself was empty and devoid of any variety. No dungeons, no enemy variety, corny final boss that was just the other blights all at once, immensely easy mode gameplay. I accidently wandered into the castle and beat the game on my first try without the master sword or shield, and only beat 2 divine beast......no game over lmao. SO disappointing
Lol, Elden Ring is fantastic, and I've put 200+ hours into it. But the combat is yet another Dark Souls through-and-through. Not to mention very unbalanced with some skills/weapons being game breaking. They also ruined bows. Their only use in Elden Ring is if you can get a boss stuck and cheese your way to victory with chip damage.
it is openworld darksouls....creator admits it, but it's mixed with some other elements and more advanced than that. what is important is it did the openworld right
"It’s like you guys never played the game and just run the most used complaints over and over like a huge echo chamber."
100%. I have had many conversations on this website with people like that and the more words they write the more they're telling me they never played the game.
Die hard fans getting their panties in a bunch and going straight for that classic, but totally bad, counter point
it’s not about ignoring anything, I still think it’s overrated. For every cool thing I can appreciate there’s another 2 things I either don’t care about or something they’ve done which past Zelda games did better…you know core features of a Zelda game.
Saying something is overrated is not saying the game is “bad”.
If it makes you feel better I still think the game is 7.5 out of 10.
We all no it’s subjective. People love Elden ring, bit I dont really play souls games for their moment to moment gameplay. I prefer nioh, sekiro, and wven wo long to Elden ring in terms of moment to moment gameplay. I am still not quite sure what people love about souls games so mich, but there must be something to it to have such a cult following
A lot of it was born from the “look how hard this game is and I beat it!” Badge that carry to brag. Then you have those who love the lore which makes up a much less percentage of the souls communities compared to the “I beat this hard game!” Badge owners.
If you don't understand what we love about all the souls like games, then why are you playing so many souls-likes. You listed playing 3 recent games that would cost you probably $100+. My advice would be to buy games in genres that you like.
@edprez- Its just that I hear things such as “Elden Rings combat is amazing”. I think its decent, but not amazing. Sometimes it feels like Im missing something.
Agreed, bring back real dungeons as well. No more weapon durability, they f'd it up the first time. Yeah I used a lot more weapons, but almost all of them sucked.
It is evidently that you have no idea what you are talking about.
This was not the first open world Zelda either.
It introduced many new elements to the series, it created a living world (all those who say that the world was barren, have clearly not played the game), the physics engine was unsurpassed and the gameplay was amazing.
It lacked story and introduced a faulty mechanic (weapon breaking), but the depth of the game was simply on another level.
In what world is that an excuse? You posted a sentence where you simplified the entire structure and gameplay of a game as “it’s Zelda but with climbing”.
“Die hard fans getting their panties in a bunch and going straight for that classic, but totally bad, counter point”
The fact that you thought a valid post was an excuse along with this kinda just proves the point.
“it’s not about ignoring anything, I still think it’s overrated. For every cool thing I can appreciate there’s another 2 things I either don’t care about or something they’ve done which past Zelda games did better…you know core features of a Zelda game.”
Cool, this is called a subjective view point. We all have one. The only difference is that my view points aren’t being pushed out as a simplification of something to make it sound worse than it is as you are doing. That’s like me saying dark souls is just a game where you swing a sword, makes it sound not so interesting, huh?
“Saying something is overrated is not saying the game is “bad”.”
You’re right, it’s not bad. But you’re the only one here saying anything to do with the word overrated. Nobody else said this. It’s like you’re trying to victimize yourself as that poor kid who called something overrated and was viciously attacked for sharing a different perspective. Yet literally you’re the only one saying these things as I never said anything to do with the word “overrated” nor did I imply nothing was overrated. I pointed out that you purposely simplified something to make it sound worse than it is.
“If it makes you feel better I still think the game is 7.5 out of 10.”
Cool, never cared what you thought of it. Just didn’t like that you were purposely making it sound bad by simplifying it to a mere “it’s Zelda with climbing”. Seriously this what can boys usually do.
My guy. You were not saying you didn’t like or care for Zelda, you were simplifying it to make it sound worse than it was. You’re literally not acknowledging this and keep trying to steer around this fact. You’re sitting here whining about “here’s how the fanboys react if you say a game is bad” yet that’s not what you were doing and are essentially enabling that reaction given you weren’t calling the game bad. You were saying “it’s zelda with climbing” like a fanboy would literally do.
And with that being said. I can definitely say myself that based on your original comment I responded to, it does sound like you haven’t played it given you literally called it “zelda with climbing” and gave nothing beyond that. So me saying that is valid.
Cool, I don’t care about those replies, but your initial comment leads me to believe you are just as bad as those replies.
“Did you really just reply then come back for more 6 hours later“
Well yea, I do have a life outside of the internet. I saw your post lower down below one of mine where I had a few notifications for this thread and thought your comment was in response to me so that’s on me.
Out of subject, but when talking about someone in the importance of Eiji Aonuma, it sounds more respectful to say his name rather than just the title of Producer
I was a huge fan of botw but I think I’m going to pass on this one. I can’t deal with jaggies and sub 30fps. Botw looked crappy compared to ps4 games at the time, now it’s just sad. It’s hard to go back to 30fps after getting used to 60fps on current get systems.
I can see that being a feature if they took the town building side quest and decided to expand it to the whole game. 100 years after the events of Calamity Ganon Hyrule isn't much of a kingdom, so rebuilding it would be where the story should go, and making it part of the gameplay is the ideal way.
TBH I just like to play with the traditional controls and nothing more. I never liked Skyward Sword (sold it in the first week), hated to wave around the Wii remote. In fact I hate any feedback from any controller, sound, rumble, anything. I just like to play and that's it.
Precise, metered rumble feedback adds a lot for me, including the intensity of my hits on enemies, or vice versa. Wii controls were bad though... I still enjoyed wind waker, but that was kind of a mess.
I can see it now: TotK will add a hunger mechanic. Then the fans and critics will praise it with comments like "I can really empathize with link now. It's so much more realistic and engaging to stop every 10 minutes to eat something!"
There’s an interview with Aonuma where he reveals they originally planned a hunger system for BOTW where Link would get slower until he couldn’t move anymore when his hunger depleted. They removed it because it would be too much of a chore for players.
There is going to be more than button mashing in combat ?
I doubt they can make better gameplay than Elden Ring, but hey... Do your best Ninty...
Sorry but even the first one didn’t…just an open world Zelda game with some neat climbing elements we all made out to be better than it is

The last one did, so hopefully
