The franchise is dead because of the lack of growth. I cant believe how popular this franchise was only to be seen as mediocre to rubbish now just like halo.

porkChop417d ago

I seem to remember Gears 5 being well received. Gears isn't being talked about these days because there's no new game, not because people don't care or it isn't popular enough.

Lore417d ago

Yes Gears 4 was literally a linear corridor shooter. Don’t know how it received so much praise

MadLad417d ago

Despite the issues had with Halo Infinite's multiplayer, both games were very well received.

People really like to exaggerate and create their own narrative.

EvertonFC417d ago (Edited 417d ago )

I think a fair few halo/gears gamers moved back over to PS4 and add to that alot of hardcore halo and gears fans are probably in there late 30/40s now with families etc.
Also those Xbox fans are probably more into f2p games like Fortnite, apex, Minecraft etc now.
Add on top of that the series being stale or going in the wrong direction didn't help either.
Add all that together and that's why we see less interest in those titles imo.

gangsta_red417d ago

Gears 5 is excellent and received rave reviews. The DLC Hivebusters is one of the most gorgeous looking games on Xbox Series X.

Stop with the cap.

Profchaos417d ago (Edited 417d ago )

Gears 1 was so unlike anything else when I played it after picking up a 360 in 2006 there was other cover shooters but none that worked as well as this I beat the game in the first few days and spent so much time online looking up leaked info for a sequel I was a huge fan then we finally got 2 and it was great but there was signs that the franchise wasn't really innovative and although it could tell a good story by the time 3 hit it was showing cracks in the formula not it's own fault but it was a victim of its own success.

That era had so many years clones and so many ue3 games that everything started looking the same every ue3 game looked like gears and that made gears feel done to death along with the cod revitalisation and gta iv, halo reach, GTA v trailer graphics leap ue3 felt old compared to every other engine.

Had it not spawned countless clones I think it would still be huge and 5 proved it's still got some life to it. But 4 and judgement just sucked

Crows90417d ago

They're not rubbish just not great games like what we expect from 1st party at Sony.
You could miss out on either and them and it wouldn't be a loss.

GotGame818416d ago

Gears 5 has a user score of 82 on metacritic. It looks and runs fantastic, on PC and Series X after current gen updates. Why would you say it's dead, when the latest Gears game is absolutely a great game? I am guessing with your comments, you haven't played it. If you have, it probably wasn't long.

I find it funny. People comment on games, when they haven't even played them, and trash them anyway.

Forspoken has a much lower score on Metacritic than Gears 5, and you praise Forspoken.

I was going to pick Forspoken up on Steam. Since most players trash it, I'll wait for a sale.

cthulhucultist416d ago (Edited 416d ago )

@_SilverHawk_ The fact that your are being upvoted, shows how bad this site has been infested with fanboys.

I am pretty sure you hyped ps games that scored lower than Gears of War 5 just because they are Sony games.

No need for that. Enjoy the games regardless of platform and who knows. You might actually have some fun in the end.

The issue he tried to jump on a trend by making a shitty Overwatch clone

porkChop417d ago

Having played both I actually preferred Lawbreakers. It's a shame it failed. Same with Radical Heights. It was super early in dev but it was so much more fun than PUBG and Fortnite. Boss Key had great ideas but poor timing and terrible luck.

gangsta_red417d ago

@fox

"The issue he tried to jump on a trend..."

What isn't a trend these days?

ModsDoBetter417d ago (Edited 417d ago )

I’m still salty I bought that game at launch and it died very quickly.

FinalFantasyFanatic416d ago

@Gangsta_red
I was actually thinking of Radical Heights when I read yours/Foxtrot's comments, but I wasn't sure if Cliff Bleszinski actually did that game (I do remember it flopping spectacularly before I even got to play it).

gangsta_red416d ago (Edited 416d ago )

@Fanatic and Porkchop

I totally forgot about Radical Heights!

Yeah, that was one that came and flopped fast

Profchaos417d ago

I guess he kind of did in the end just not a memorable one

Sonic1881417d ago

The franchise was good back in the early 2000s but it's stale now. I hope they move on from it.

SonyStyled416d ago

The first Gears released November of 2006 my dude. It had an Epic trailer with the song Madworld. The PS3 and Wii launched the same month. It was an exciting holiday season I’ll never forget.

Maybe you’re confusing Gears with Unreal Tournament?

Sonic1881416d ago

I played the first 3 gears. It started to get stale after that IMO

z2g417d ago (Edited 417d ago )

That’s about 100x more difficult, risky and expensive. just ask Forspoken.

SpacedDuck416d ago

Yeah, new IP'S have worked out well for Cliffy.

BandarHub417d ago

Then it would pretty much be Doom 2016.

Profchaos417d ago

A 30 fps ue3 first person shooter would be more blacksite area 51 than doom

anast417d ago

Yeah, instead of doing the work, let's just change the perspective and charge "$200" for the mega edition. These guys are losers even though they make a ton of money. Yes, it's possible.

Garry's Mod Removing All Nintendo Content From Steam Workshop After Takedown Request

The developer of Garry's Mod has announced it is in the process of removing all Nintendo-related content from Steam Workshop after receiving a takedown request from Nintendo.

gurp5d ago

first emulation, now this
even though I don't play Garry's Mod, it is still bad

Inverno5d ago

I was reading it's all just false reports from a troll who's done things like this in the past and not Nintendo themselves.

-Foxtrot4d ago

Well the games creator Gary Newman confirmed it himself on Twitter.

Inverno4d ago

Seems that's still being debated.
