Hogwarts Legacy PS4 & Xbox One Release Date Delay Is Actually Great

It’s always disappointing when a game gets delayed, but there are also reasons why Hogwarts Legacy’s PS4 & Xbox One delay is a positive thing.

People really think “delays” are a good thing? That’s usually an indicator things are really bad. Don’t believe me? Remember a game called Cyberpunk?

Stanjara829d ago

Not always... in this case I agree... It's a good thing.

Game is out... Game is good and sales are insane.

They're in no hurry to release this on previous gen.

So let's polish it some more because these weaker systems surely produce more bugs and problems.

Well ya, if they wouldn't have caved to the investors they mislead the game would have released closer to what it is now instead of a wreck. Not sure how arguing that Cyberpunk coming out early would make us think delays are bad. Early Access or delay till it is to the development teams standards, not the investors or high ups. Delaying till you are releasing near other games of your type or high caliber games is also good. It gives us time to play games without them getting lost in time. I loved Horizon:ZD but have yet to start the 2nd because of Elden Ring crushing any hype I had for it.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I’ve noticed when a headline says “Game delayed” I see people say, “yay! That’s a good thing cuz when it releases it’ll be polished and amazing!!!”

What I’m saying is if there’s a delay that’s usually an indicator that things aren’t running smoothly in terms of development or game’s performance. I know ol’ Miyamaoti had that saying where it was basically a rushed game is garbage forever but a delayed game lasts forever… or something along those lines, look I’m paraphrasing, but the thing I notice is with delays and the inevitable release we tend to see EXACTLY why the game was delayed and they’ll fix it through patches… hopefully. In Hogwarts case this is an open-world game where as of recent we’ve seen WB straight up drop last-gen versions for things like Gotham Knights and Cyberpunk had a hell of time with their last-Gen version of an open-world game.

Maybe I’m wrong and this will be glorious and just as amazing as the current-gen versions OR they’re trying like hell to get this to work in an acceptable state and maybe the second delay is all they need 🤷‍♂️

I mean, did anyone think the Switch 2 would be comparable to current-gen? Yea, I’m pretty sure it’s going to give you PS4 quality looking/playing games and in a couple years we’ll be onto PS6 and most third-party games will either be downgraded to hell or just not be available on Switch 2 🤷‍♂️.

I was never under any illusion it would compare to series s imagine the battery life

It’s doing exactly what I expected and what it needed to do base Xbox One settings in most games upscaled to 2x the resolution with DLSS when docked, and running with better performance. What more can you ask for out of a 10w - ~57w~ platform

Current-gen AAA Games (SX/PS5): 540p @ 30-40fps most games upscaled to 1080p @ 30-40fps
Last-gen AAA Games (XBO/PS4): 720p @ 30-60fps most games upscaled to 1440p @ 30-60fps
PS360/Switch AAA Games: 1080p @ 30-60fps most games upscaled to 1440p-4K @ 30-60fps
Rare cases the PS360/Switch games at 1080p@120fps games like Metroid

And that’s perfectly fine, except docked mode on AAA games could become fairly blurry on large 4K displays.

Sorry, I disagree with this sentiment. The Switch 2 is a current gen machine and well above the PS4 Pro. It goes toe to toe with the Series S due to great DLSS and a modern architecture in many games. This game (Hogwarts Legacy) has always been the poorest example of what the Switch 2 can do and appears to simply be a bad port. Cyberpunk 2077 is on the other hand a great port.

for a handheld it's quite nice, but don't go in expecting a serious console. Keep your PS5 and/or PC. You can tell a huge difference in those long distance shots w the foilage/grass. But again on an 8 inch screen, I bet it looks and plays decent enough.

Neonridr2d ago

the way I look at it, the PS4 Pro still had some gorgeous games. If I could have games that looked like TLOU2 on the system, would I really care about what it would look like on a PS5? No.

OtterX2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Only on my 55" 4k do I care for that extra oomph. I would be blown away to have a game on par graphically w the PS4 Pro version of TLOU II on a handheld!

Grilla2d ago

Graphics are irrelevant if it’s not running at 60fps

anast2d ago

Switch 2 is around $450 to $700 depending on the country. Let that sink in. Get that nice '280p' Cyberpunk...

They are comparing the S to the PS4. HA!

Couldn't go 2 sentences without bringing up JK Rowling's viewpoints (which are now acknowledged and supported by the UK Supreme Court). Time for all the "progressive" whiners to latch back on to reality.
