Wild Hearts: a potentially great game impacted by tech issues on all platforms

The complete tech breakdown of developer Omega Force's new action RPG. Built on its proprietary Katana Engine, the team focuses only on newer PS5, Series X and S consoles and PC here. The result? A game with incredible visual ambition - and clearly with a debt owed to the Monster Hunter template. But technical issues, such as bugs, frame-rate drops, and hitches on PC make Wild Hearts a less assured recommendation.

Hogwarts Legacy, Atomic Heart, and now Wild Hearts all perform better on PS5.

“We have evidence here that PS5 runs at a higher average frame rate overall at least for this section. We’re seeing a divide up to 10fps to 12fps at peak in PS5 favor.”

“So again for Series X the turnout for 60fps play isn’t spectacular and still needs work with drops hitting hardest during action.”

shinoff2183797d ago (Edited 797d ago )

Funny though cause other games have gotten a pass to an extent lately. Atomic heart being one(no knock on the game itself i look forward to it) it was getting 8s and 9s. Is it cause this isn't on gamepass , is that why it's not being scored on potential but being scored on actual release state

I'm really trying to give this game the benefit of the doubt, but it sucks that the performance is so bad. Here's a screenshot of a hunt I was doing yesterday on PS5 lol. This isn't a motion thing either. This happened while just walking or slowly moving the camera too.

Also the stutter really makes using the the umbrella counter harder than it needs to be. Really wish I saved my money here.

Ninver797d ago

A victim of hype. I've learned to never buy a game early in this day and age. Give it a couple of months, wait for the inevitable patch fixes (if any) then jump in.

blackblades797d ago (Edited 797d ago )

It sucks that games this day in age comes out like this. I blame patches and the devs, patches made devs lazy cause they know they'll can fix it via a patch at a later date. Then there's the devs omega has a track record of bad performance, bugs and so on like with there dynasty warrior games. The game seem good and getting good reviews it would be a monster Hunter contender if they clean up it up and advertise. You'll think they would learn by now to get a clean performance but seems like they don't care or dont have skills to do so. Like have someone like DF go in and beta test it before release and give them the heads up.

Destiny1080797d ago

where's the 40fps option, this would have made both versions instantly more playable from day one, it wouldn't have saved the series s with its 30fps and frame pacing issues but its a good start while we wait for patches

Demetrius797d ago

It’s sad there are only a handful amount of devs out there that put genuine craftsmanship into their games nowadays smh classic single player games are so scarce at the moment almost every company wana jump on the online only bs wagon even rocksteady doing that now smh

This is a great month for me, I have almost bought Wild Hearts a ton of times and same for Cult of the Lamb.

Some really good variety here, and some serious playtime on offer here with all the RPG's. Good luck finishing all these games in a month heh.

Time Splitters is fantastic on the classic side, and glad to see they keep supporting PSVR2 with games

Really grateful I had the good sense to drop pay to play multi-player. It's a rip off.

Einhander1972263d ago

At least when you buy the basic PS+ tier you actually get new games often including AAA games.

This month PS+ got the Star Wars Skywalker Saga, Five Nights at Freddy's:: Security Breach, and Ender Lilies

Xbox hasn't gotten any new games for their basic tier since July and before that it was in August 2023. And if that wasn't bad enough the games they got were just recycled from game pass.

TheEroica262d ago

14 people downvoted and enjoy paying for something millions of pc gamers get for free. Lol.

seanpitt23263d ago (Edited 263d ago )

They could have included the dlc for the Witcher 3 game of the year addition geez..

How many times do they want to keep putting WD2 on

Einhander1972263d ago

PS+ 17 games this month unlike game pass which only offered 7 almost half of them I got years ago on PS+,.and the rest are indies from companies I haven't even heard of.

And the Sony Pictures movie collection will probably get updated with new movies and shows from Crunchy Roll too.

Not bad for a subscription that costs significantly less game pass even before they raised the prices.

crazyCoconuts263d ago

Still not as good as it was a year ago. I think they're walking back on the quality of games just like XBGP is. It's a good thing though...ppl gotta start buying games again.

darthv72263d ago

For me, the redeeming titles are the Time Splitters ones. Sadly i do not subscribe to premium, only extra.

VersusDMC263d ago

Well you can still buy them. PS2 titles range from 5 (the clone wars) to 20 (tomb raider legend). So it may be a good price.

Becuzisaid263d ago

I'd bet these are in the expensive side. People have been wanting some kind of timesplitters remaster for a long time now.

pwnmaster3000263d ago

I thought it was a pretty good month, then I saw time splitter. It made it so much better. I always wanted to play this game but never did

Deeeeznuuuts263d ago

Not the best month for me other than timesplitters!! Can't wait to replay them again, be nice if they have trophies too but no danger of they don't, can't wait!

Hogwarts Legacy should be there. I STILL can't play it because of how bad the framerate is. Graphics options do next to nothing on there. I put everything on high and ultra settings at 1440p or even 4k and I get sharp drops below 40 FPS.
I change everything to medium or low settings at 1080p and I still get drops down below 40 FPS. As well as, some instances that go into the 30's. Makes no sense at all. Great game, but it's poorly built on a technical level. Those that bought it on console lucked out. Because the developers focused on those, instead of the PC version. That much is very clear.

Inverno497d ago

I played it in the Deck so I shouldn't expect it to run all too smoothly, but I've played other games just as graphically demanding that ran at a constant 40 fps, on medium too. The game works, but I agree that performance is all over the place.

EvertonFC497d ago

Consoles is the primary version/focus, PC isn't there primary market as unfortunately they probably cheap out knowing half the player count pirated the copy.
I'm sorry to say buy piracy ruins PC versions because it ain't worth the time probably?

It's one part of the competency crisis plaguing AAA these days. Lack of disciplined people being hired, and those that are rely too heavily on hardware solutions to pick up their slack in software. It's an ongoing issue in most industries right now. Just as well, AAA keeps missing the mark routinely be it gameplay or performance and that's often across all platforms. Find myself enjoying AA and Indies more these days.

MrDead498d ago

How is Starfield not on that list, it looks like a 10+ year old game and runs like s**t!

Inverno497d ago

Cause do we really need to speak on yet another Bethesda game being an unoptimized/buggy mess? Should go without saying at this point.

PRIMORDUS497d ago

And let me give you the worst website out there, your on it right now. How many times are we going to see runtime error, maybe change the name to runtime-error.com🤣 Doesn't matter what browser you use, or clean cookies that runtime error just keeps coming back.

badz149496d ago

Due to N4G, I'm currently cirlcling through 3 different browsers on my phone at the moment just to see on which 1 it decides to run next without that damn error. Should have put it up there in this article just to make a statement!

hard joe496d ago

many 2023 pc games are unoptimized
those are just the tip of iceberg
