Gran Turismo 7 might make you into a VR believer

Tom Orry: "If it doesn’t, I don’t know what will. This PS VR2 launch title is simply incredible."

The jump from the first is huge. Really impressed

kythlyn804d ago

It's definitely a huge jump from PSVR1 but not quite as big a jump as I was expecting. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I am a bit disappointed at the screen door effect, the lack of peripheral vision, and that 2K per eye still isn't enough for as clear an image as I thought would have been possible this gen. Feels too early to be looking forward to PSVR3, but there's still so much clear room for improvement. All that said, the games are coming through. In Gran Turismo 7, I finally enjoy the view from in the vehicle which always felt too blinding outside of VR. And Horizon is both a visual spectacle and mechanically interesting game. I can't wait to play more games!

I agree coming from having a Rift S with a Nvidia 3080, it's not going to floor you. It's still the best I've seen, but incremental for me.
I read the screen door/mura effect is most likely due to it being OLED. Given the benefits of OLED I'm happy with it. I was hoping the God rays were a thing of the past, but oh well. Not a huge deal

I was a believer since playing drive club vr. Now that is one I would love to see get a proper PS5/VR2 upgrade. Sadly... that aint gonna happen.

I'm LAPPING it up, every night. Truly outstanding.

again... i'm sure its awesome. i own a ps5 and gt7. I want really badly to play gt7 in vr.... but i'm as of right now not planning on buying psvr2. Out of all the games announced for psvr2, literally only 2 games have captured my interest. everything else is either just more small scale vr games, filler games, corny kind of indie type games. If i'm going to spend nearly $600 on a peripheral, a peripheral that costs more than the unit it runs on, then i expect to have a game library that matches the spectacle and quality that you are buying into when you choose playstation. right now I do not see that. I cannot spend that money for 2 impressive titles when then other 50+ i could get a similar experience on a quest 2 that i already own and barely use. i don't need the latest vr rhythm, swordfighting or thumper type games being largely the same but running on a clearer screen. i need most games to be at ps5 quality and have a purpose to be in vr.

If in a years time or so a see a strong, healthy list of high caliber AAA titles receiving as much acclaim as gt7 vr, THEN i will become a believer of psvr2 or even vr in general. As of right now, I'm no longer confident in VR in general as a format.

@z2g I definitely respect your views on not wanting to spend that much right now. Something I can't seem to wrap my head around in general, is when did we get to a point where people are expecting LAUNCH lineups to have multiple "Game of the Generation" games on Day 1. Like, when has that EVER happened? Sure, switch launched with Breath of the Wild, which was a Wii u port, but only had 5 other crappy games.

With every generation, people expect the greatest games of all time at launch, with an install base of 0 🤣 This it not specifically directed at you, just gamers in general. I'm wondering when those expectations became the overwhelming majority in this vocal minority.

I own PSVR2 and the tech is incredible. Really looking forward to what they come up with because the LAUNCH lineup with GT7, Horizon and Re Village has literally blown my mind. Of course, I'm only coming from PSVR1 but when the tech is this good, I can only imagine two-three years down the line.

Exciting times

The difference is that with a console that launches with only a few strong games, I feel pretty confident that I will continue to get quality games year after year. With PSVR2 there is a legitimate reason to be worried that in four years we will be looking back at the best AAA PSVR2 games and GT7, RE8, and Horizon:Call of the Mountain will still be the best examples we have (I'm just assuming Sony will drop the ball and not secure a port of Half Life: Alyx).

ApocalypseShadow804d ago

It's like they keep coming up with nonsense reasons.

"There's nothing to play out of the 40 games."

"I can experience the same game with degraded graphics and lack of haptics like Sony's."

" Sony won't have any more big games after launching days ago. What's at launch is the only big games they'll have."

Sony just launched and all you hear is excuses. Now, if one doesn't have the money right now? Then that's legit. Like I have to wait until summer myself. But these other guys are just coming up with naysaying that Sony has nothing, will have nothing, will fail or some nonsense comment.

It gets old hearing it from them.

"With every generation, people expect the greatest games of all time at launch"

Well some of us remember that used to be the way it was. Not so much these days because they tend to fall back on already released games.

shinoff2183804d ago (Edited 804d ago )

I feel with all Sony has invested in this they will secure and get some good aaa games. Time will tell.

Me personally I really really dislike racing games. Fun fact the og gran tourism, I love that and played it alot. I just fell out with racing games. Resident evil is a maybe but I did really enjoy re7 on the first vr. I think Sony has got it. I'm planning on grabbing one I'll just personally need a few months but there's also a couple games i wanna grab out right now to first like hogwarts

@z2g, if you can't afford it or justify spending the money then you certainly shouldn't. Its,not going anywhere. For me I don't need psvr2 to provide me a long list of AAA games from jump but there are some great AA games available beyond the 2 or 3 everyone talks about.

jukins803d ago

It literally just launched...and has over 30+ games available. That more than ps5 and xsx launched with...plenty of ppl spent way over asking price for consoles at launch

purple101804d ago

Dunno man, while i think normal flat gaming will always reign, I tried a £9.99 google cardboard that you slot your phone into, was okay, 5/10 for novelty, then Psvr 1, 6/10 very much more immersive but still blurry graphics', or like going back a generation to 360/ps3, Now, with the power of ps5 + modern lens optics and everything else, (10gbs USBc cable for transfer) its going to be immense. cant wait to try it. although also not spending that much, spesh when
I have a backlog to play first

headshotfrosty804d ago

It’s incredible. Horizon and RE8 are ridiculously immersive on PSVR2 and I own an XBSX.

Bathyj803d ago

If you think that you either haven't played anything good or your just jaded.
