masterfox440d ago

thats awesome and scary, MS will try to buy the game franchise now!! run you fools before is too late!, here comes he who must not be named.

The3faces440d ago

Well Sony won't try to buy the franchise they'll just buy playstation exclusivity to keep the inevitable Hogwarts 2 off Xbox, PC and Nintendo. No one does it better than Sony.

Kaii440d ago

Shame Playstation spent some cash for that side-quest exclusivity, 10% resell value doesn't mean anything but that sidequest stood out among every sidequest In the game so companies spending £££ to keep content exclusive for platforms for X period is annoying, and anti-consumer.

Customer who spends the same on X platform, as well as Y platform, should get equal content.

shinoff2183440d ago (Edited 440d ago )

The3faces,

You must be extremely younger or have alhzeimers cause ms has played that game since they came into gaming themselves. Especially during the 360. When they had a chance with the head start.

Ms is familiar with the 3rd party exclusives and 3rd party timed exclusives. Their just as guilty. Go find a list there out there. They also have some 3rd party exclusives game ls launching soon. High on life, stalker 2, and some others I can't think of

So along with ms you know who else pays for 3rd party exclusives timed or otherwise. Ms, Sony, Nintendo, sega used to and he'll maybe at some point some of the smaller consoles like jaguar, 3do etc.

Get over it

And then

Kaii

Another one. We're you around when ms shelled out a reported 50 million dollars for gta4 dlc timed exclusive. Yep both dlc were timed exclusive. Not to mention ms is just as guilty themselves. Phew. They also had call of duty exclusive stuff to.

And that's not taking into account that ms owns more studios then sony but cannot keep up somehow. So they decide they need to buy publishers. Not just studios. Publishers of games for all systems. To go with those publishers. They also bought obsidian, inxile, platinum games(I believe), and more, with all that said I put money on it that most of those studios ms recently bought and the publishers I bet their games sold better on sonys system. Seems kinda weird and monopolistic right.

O almost forgot. The precious hogwarts dlc, I just read it was coming to other platforms in April. I hope that helps you sleep at night 😘

Extermin8or3_440d ago

They literally never do thst for 3rd party multiplatform titles. Final fantasy is the one exception and it has a strong history eith PlayStation with over a decade and a half of exclusivity prior to some multiplatform releases and the ones releasing soon are only times exclusives anyway.

mkis007440d ago

Acting like Ms didn't do this

blacktiger440d ago

both of you are embarrasing. Both company should buy any company except public trading that are juggernaut. This game ain't big comparing to SONY and MS.

darkrider440d ago

Something that Microsoft started. Never forget that

darkrider440d ago

Like they did with Tomb raider and it floped hard and ended that franchise...

adamwparker439d ago

Oh my God! Will you Xbox vs PS fanboys ever go away???

We all know that the Playdate is the new master race....

Crows90439d ago (Edited 439d ago )

You mean buy a side quest?
Instead of spouting baseless nonsense...give examples of when Sony has actually bought off a sequel under MS?

@kai

To me that depends on whether Sony paid to have that quest created in the first place. In that case I'm thankful for it but if they simply locked the content away then yes that's shitty as always.

ironmonkey439d ago

Well when you have only 3 or 4 people that bought it on Xbox makes it easier for a studio to say yes to the other that actually makes them profit.

WB games were up for sale but many of their games franchises are IP's outside of gaming that those licenses would cost extra

The3faces

Let me ask you something what's worst keeping one game franchise off another platform or taking away all the games from one whole publisher? Neither side is correct but let's not overlook the fact Ms started all this during the xbox360 days

Bioshock 1 was timed exclusive
Gears of war never came to PS3
GTA 4 DLC was timed exclusive
Call of duty had exclusive dlc

Just few examples. So now people want to blame Sony only just like game prices going to $70 was all PlayStation until Ms and Nintendo also started to do it. Sony is the market leader in gaming and gets most of the blow back but at least they are upfront about it like raising price for consoles

Whether we agree or not be transparent

shinoff2183440d ago (Edited 440d ago )

I don't know why they are complaining about the 70 dollar thing anyway with what ms said about game sales

The3faces440d ago

"MS started all those during the Xbox 360 days"
Actually Sony started this during the PS2/Original Xbox era. Sony bought 2 years exclusivity fore GTA 3 and Vice Citye wase exclusively on PS2 for one year.

anubusgold440d ago

@The3faces Sony did it to nintendo and sega first

shinoff2183440d ago

Every console maker has had 3rd party exclusives deals. Going back to snes sega probably even nes really

Thats cute of you to ignore my post 3facey

Imalwaysright440d ago (Edited 440d ago )

The3faces

Actually Sony started making deals with third party publishers in the PS1 days the most notorious being the deal they made for the TR IP and led to the cancellation of the already in development Sega Saturn version of TR2.

https://core-design.com/art...

https://segaretro.org/Tomb_...

"In April 2020, co-creator of Tomb Raider Paul Douglas confirmed that a Saturn version of Tomb Raider II was in development until the Sony exclusivity deal forced to cancel it"

Kaii440d ago

@Shin, In response to your comment, "O almost forgot. The precious hogwarts dlc, I just read it was coming to other platforms in April. I hope that helps you sleep at night "
read the following, you can watch the trailer for the Hogsmeade quest, where it says the quest is exclusive until February 10, 2024.

What helps me sleep at night is knowing when people get triggered by opinions online =)
FYI - I've got Hogwarts on the PS5 so I don't get the derailment to what unfair practices MS did during the 360 era & quite frankly I don't care, but take your fanboyism somewhere else, thanks.

zaanan439d ago

Also why do ppl post without looking at facts? Looking at you the3faces, anubusgold. For example:
https://screenrant.com/gta-...
Rockstar tried to make GTA3 exclusive to MS but MS turned them down, so Rockstar then went to Sony and convinced them to make it exclusive.
GTA3 EXCLUSIVITY WAS ROCKSTAR’S IDEA, NOT SONY’S.
So. Can we please put this false claim that Sony “stole” GTA3 from MS to bed?

neutralgamer1992439d ago

Y'all are absolutely right it happened before too but never at the level of competition during xbox360 vs PS3 days. That's when big money was in play

So Sony buying up timed exclusive dlc and games is the same thing as Ms buying you publishers? That's where the concern is for me because where will this stop?

anubusgold439d ago (Edited 439d ago )

@zaanan Microsoft didnt even have a console when sony started doing it so yes sony started it lol.

They do not need to buy the studio the next game by Avalanche will be Contraband. which is console exclsuive.

NecrumOddBoy440d ago

This is an absolute love letter to the Wizarding World and an incredible game through and through. Well deserved to Avalanche and a massive middle finger to the cowards at Wired, Gamespot, and all those hypocritically emotionally distraught activists journalisming all over him or her selves right now.

:)

VenomUK440d ago (Edited 440d ago )

What's incredible about the impact Hogwarts Legacy, even before PS4/Switch/XBO sales, is that Warner are now looking to use the past setting of the game as the basis for its new Hogwarts TV series on HBO.

sadraiden440d ago

I don't understand how Gamespot/Wired/etc are hypocrites. They have been long-time supporters of the LGBTQ+ community, and they made it known that they take ideological Umbridge with a game that directly financially contributes to hate groups in the UK. Kind of hard to reconcile that against the themes of inclusion within the WW. Seems more like JKR is the hypocrite.

Truly, your opinion this long after release just reeks of "nananana transphobia is normalized, get rekt"

Gunstar75440d ago

Please quote what the "hate groups" and "JK" have said exactly?

NecrumOddBoy440d ago

1. JK is only a hypocrite for retconning ideological content into the original world she created to pander to the mob.
2. She does not fund hate groups nor does the game revenue. This is a lie.
3. Being a pro-woman feminist that has poured millions of dollars into programs to enrich the lives of young girls is not only not transphobic, but it is also one of the noblest acts a person can do.
4. The game's sales report just came out so that is what the comment goes towards; not weeks later.
5. I believe you when you say you don't understand.

badz149440d ago

let's hope WB will learn something from this. AAANNNNDDD....they are back to GAAS for Suicide Squad! sigh...

12 million copies sold already, holy crap that's nuts! I've been playing it since day one and it's amazing. So glad we finally got a great Harry Potter game. It's magical and clearly the devs working on the game have a love and passion for the franchise.

Minute Man 721440d ago

Wow....people are starving for games

Jin_Sakai440d ago

People are starving for attention. It’s too bad all the boycotting the game due to J.K. Rowling did nothing.

Hogwarts Legacy is a good game and people are enjoying it.

MadLad439d ago

I'm not a Harry Potter fan; I'm not even all that interested in the game but, from everything I've seen, the game is fantastic and I'm happy seeing being highly successful.

Firebird360439d ago

Jin the boycotting actually worked I think.
In potters favor though lol.
I had no interest in it until I saw all these mental patients screaming for attention. So I did my part and bought a copy. Great game.

FlameBaitGod439d ago

"It’s too bad all the boycotting the game due to J.K. Rowling did nothing."

The hysteria did a lot actually, made the game sell a hell of a lot more lol

mkis007440d ago

What a weird thing to say with all the good games that have been released and will release in the past future 3 months

439d ago
Dandalandan117440d ago

That amount of sales considering it hasn't officially released on the Switch and previous gen consoles yet is unbelievable.
I'm about 20 hours in the game and still hooked.
There are still a lot of things that I need to discover and skills to unlock.
Great job Avalanche!

Was Hogwarts Legacy Only Successful Because Of Nostalgia?

Shahmeer from eXputer: "I've always wondered whether the success of Hogwarts Legacy had much to do with nostalgia. The RPG is great but certainly not free of issues."

Markdn8d ago

I totally agree, and no replay value for sure but enjoyed every minute I was playing it. Not a Harry Potter fan but still really enjoyed

Lexreborn28d ago

I still haven’t finished it, mostly due to it not holding my interest after 20 hours. Wouldn’t say it’s a bad game, wouldn’t say it’s amazing I really can’t judge it fully due to not completing it.

Lexreborn28d ago

lol are people upset because I said I put 20 hours into the game and that because I haven’t finished I won’t criticize it’s value or if nostalgia generates it’s success? That’s funny

CrimsonWing698d ago

Harry Potter is one of the biggest IPs in the world. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why it sold so much. It’s a great game on top of that, so the math kind of maths here.

Can’t wait for the article on if Zelda or Mario only sold well due to nostalgia.

Crows907d ago

They're trying to find a fake reason for its success...the mainstream hate how successful it became because of the writer behind the series.

So now they want to say that people bought it not because they liked it but only because of nostalgia....as if harry potter is really that old or even a classic IP in the game industry.

thorstein7d ago

That doesn't even make any sense. The author made those statements before the game released. People knew ahead of time and wanted a boycott.

But most people knew any boycott would only punish the people who worked on the game and put their hearts into it (like most boycotts).

So many people bought it, enjoyed it immensely, and moved on.

VenomUK7d ago

@CrimsonWing69 A greatly in demand IP only takes you so far, if it was crap quality then the reviews and word of mouth would have stalled its sales. But it is a good game (judged by Metacritic and user reviews) and that has given the game legs.

Tzuno8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

ngl, it got me in the first half hour
after that, a big let down, mediocre at every step
only fans are praising it

Markdn8d ago

In what way was it mediocre, can't really find anything about it that was mediocre and I'm not a hp fan

Demetrius8d ago

It's still a good game almost time for a 2nd playthrough, the passion they put into it is🔥🔥 crazy how after a couple months or a year folks get to complaining about this n that about certain games smh childish mfs
