Gamepass major advantage is the day one releases of *NEW* AAA, AA and Indie games for it´s subscribers. Be that first, second or third party. I can´t wait for Atomic Heart!
Imagine being hyped to not support your hobby, Microsoft already admitted the day 1 triple a games are cannibalizing there own games. Meaning the quality of first party is going to suffer on Xbox.
From a buissness models of both services serve their purpose. PSN+ is good for game collection of older but quality games. Horizon came out a year ago therefor no cannibalization of their of the games sales. VS gamepass that has statistically ate away game sales through the service. Though Infinite and Forza still charted the NPD sales in early 2022 so how much is Gamepass eating a way at core sales? Maybe as more ppl get gamepass the more ppl will stop buying? Maybe? Either way it's still Showing ppl still by MS 1st party at the end of the day I don't think it matters to MS. Much Gamepass makes 3 billion in revenue of course before expense and their first party are getting compensated by a very different buissness model since every studio has to release in gamepass.
Your supporting them by sub... Devs are putting their games to cash out easy money from MS... You Think they dev a game and lunch it on gameepass with a loss.... You guys are nu**
Which has been my main worry with gamepass when it was announced.
Its netflix all over again. Like you can tell the majorty of stuff on it are just fillers and even their top movies like The Old Gaurd, The Grey Men or Extraction are really hollow movies.
You can only do so much with so little.
Considering that MS has gamepass for such time now yet literally none of their 1st party has managed to do much to the point where MS has to spend 60B plus to buy out Acti/Blizz. Its alrming
60B they could have bought so many new talent and greenlighted new IP's yet here we are. They are still claming they can't compete with Sony on the game front and they are losing game sales because of their gamepass same time their first party sucks.
What did forza and halo chart at though. Was it the bottom. Position matters in the case. Also those are their most widely known games so people that dont have fast internet are still able to buy physically. High speed internet isn't available in alot of places contrary to belief.
Delusional. Those ''AAA'' games are not even exclusive to X Box. They are on PC as well day and date. And remember, not a single one of them are on the PS5 AAA game's level.
You're absolutely right. Build a capable PC and play the games there if you don't want to touch the Xbox. Play it off of Steam or Windows That's what everyone else here is doing.
Generalize much, some of us will buy an xbox for a few games. Starfield , fallout , I'm sure a couple more to. I don't have the time, patience, nor money to build a gaming pc. I do have a laptop I've played games like encased off steam but for the most part I prefer consoles. I've always bought Xbox consoles in fact I had the og Xbox before I had a ps2
Says the guy that over hyped the high on life and hi fi. You are just a straight hayer dude you sh on everything Playstation. Atleast some(key word) of us on Playstation give Xbox credit when it's due. With you it's just - - - - - all the time
"You mean like Forspoken, right? Probably a good thing to not be on the same level as that game 🙄"
Weird perspective to have considering Forspoken was number 7 in the 10 games that month. Not sure how that's in anyway bad. I would think Xbox would be happy to have a top 10 game.
PlayStation Plus also has some day one indie titles, but okay.
I still maintain that the hype for a service over the quality of the content is bizarre to me. It's like being hyped about Paramount+ having Halo to me.
EXACTLY. If you search how many “first day” releases gamepass has had since its beginning, you will see that they have not actually had that many games for all the years gamepass has been in existence.
Yet, MS advertised the “first party first day” thing so well that even I believed for the longest that these guys were getting free games all the time. They are not!
Looking at the PSPlus, they too get first day releases, just not for Sony’s own story driven AAA single player games, and they’ve actually had a few games in the few months of the new PSplus as well. Nothing to write home about, but neither is gamepass’s.
I feel like the hype for xbox first party day one releases is mainly due to MS smoking a lot of smoke up people’s rear ends.
Google it, the number of released day one’s is really not enough for all this “gamepass advantage” talk.
Imagine spending 7 billion 2 years ago so you can have games on your service but still have to pay out a shit town of money for a 3rd patty game to have day one on your service. Is game pass more technical advance than PS plus?, I this as the article points out is undeniable at this point, but the problem is the content, still not the second coming of Jesus as some want to make it look, and knowing MS expect price increase, lower quality and incomplete games plagued with micro transactions.
"And PlayStation has one major advantage over Game Pass. Quality full price releases that don’t cannibalize game sales."
Have you sold your Xbox Series X, already? I really hope you to put your money where your mouth is.
"I’m really starting to despise Microsoft and Xbox at this point. Might just sell the Series X and buy a Switch to compliment our PS5’s"
Because next time I see you excited about any Xbox game specially on Gamepass, there´ll be hell to pay! XD
Plus, as far first party games is concerned, I think Xbox Series consoles is doing GREAT compared to PS5´s first party games. And we get it for "free" day one, while PS fans will pay full price for it.
@Obscure "We get it for free day one" Who is "We ?? Nothing is for free especially when you're paying a monthly subscription fee. "I think XB Series consoles is doing great compared to PS5s first party games" LOL!! Delusional comment.
Doesn't mean much when day one AAA games on Gamepass eating into sales. And with Gamepass not being where MS wants it to be...well...you see the quality of the games go down. Already starting to see this with some MS exclusives.
I somewhat regret upgrading to ps plus premium, but for $60 per year at the time i couldn't turn it down. I find myself playing more games on ps plus and buying less discs. Previously i would have ps essential for $30 per year and buy a couple more games on sale. Even with ps essential, i had more games than i could ever play. Now its to a much larger extent, but im still limited to playing the same amount of games. I really dont need premium. I was fine as is before. 10 years ago i couldve utilized premium or gamepass, but at this point it doesnt make as much sense. My backlog will continue to grow at the same rate no matter what. Just depends if i want to play games closer to release.
Therein lies the problem with gamepass. You are still playing the same amount of games, but with the illusion of choice AND you are possibly paying more ESPECIALLY if you happen to purchase some games outside of the service.
This is my issue, I just have too many games and not enough time, getting Gamepass or a tier higher than PS Plus Essential is just superfluous to me. I'm probably never going to get through all those games in my lifetime.
You are entitled to that BUT, If you search how many “first day” releases gamepass has had since its beginning, you will see that they have not actually had that many games considering all the years gamepass has been in existence.

Lol. Microsoft NEVER promised us day one releases for third party games, genius. Only first party which N4G mocked and laugh about back in 2017, calling it "just another lie from Phi Spencer".
I remember fanboys on N4G predicting that Gamepass would be nothing but a GaaS based service and a park for low tier indie games. They said Microsoft would never allow its AAA games to be available day on Gamepass, that it wouldn´t be sustainable, Xbox would go bankrupt, that Phil was lying and blah blah blah.
And here we are, fast forward 5 years and we not only been getting big AAA games from Xbox Studios day one, but also AAA, AA and Indie from third party as well. Even from Sony itself for 3 years in a row. Lol.
Gamepass is the most successful gaming service in the world. it only grows stronger every year and in 2023 will be getting about 20 new releases day one in the service, from first and third party (did i mentioned Sony again?Lol)
So you can cry and moan all you want, when comes to Gamepass, competition simply can´t compete.
Just take your L and find some way to deal with reality.
It's pretty clear PS doesn't treat PC in the same way Xbox does. PS uses it as supplemental revenue for older first party games. There's still plenty of reasons to get a PS5 even if you have a PC, I'm guessing that's what they want. MS treats the PC just like an Xbox. No reason to have both because both have the same games.
Thanks to SteamDeck, I now see PC as an extension of my PS5 though - my portable PlayStation.
So it would be nice if at least first party game progress would sync between them. If that meant installing a PS launcher and/or signing in with my PSN account, I would be fine with that requirement.
I would like the ps and pc profression but of course with steam and epic. Achievement goes both ways for the same game and saves etc. You can log in with the psn account on steam and think the same goes for epic store so that part already there. Security reason not to do so and understandable why they won't as well other reason.
Does MS offer cross platform progression with their games on Steam and EGS? Honestly curious kuz I don't know. I do agree Sony should create its own launcher for cross progression on PC too. Would be a nice benefit
It can vary by game (presumably due to developer choice), but they do - at least on Steam, I only have EGS for the free games :p
They basically make you login with an Xbox live account when you run the game on Steam and then use Xbox Live for all the save games, leaderboards etc (it doesn’t require gold though like on console).
I suspect Sony will go the same route, and I support that idea - I’m typically against having 910283 publisher PC launchers and accounts etc, but I think in the case of platform holders it makes sense because we get a huge benefit of being able to take our stuff with us wherever we play and earn trophies etc.
When it comes to games services like this. No doubt Gamepass is the more complete of the two. That said, it’s really a reflection of the both companies approach to gaming. Sony is focused more on moving consoles were MS is focused on putting Gamepass on as many devices as possible.
I believe that both approaches can survive and bear fruit simultaneously. If the acquisition goes through for MS, it will be a very hard for Sony’s service to catch up.
Its really not. Google what they have had in first party day one releases for all the years gamepass has been around. They really dont have much to show for it. Google it.
They’ve been riding on gamepass PR for years now, and they’ve had 21 studios all the while the studios have churned out what we’ve seen from MS. Im sure gobbling up the industry will lead to exclusives for gamepass, but what are we really expecting from these acquisitions over the long term?
In it's current state, I can't see how Gamepass is sustainable, they don't have the subscriber count to make a significant profit, and they need to continuously swallow up studios to fuel new content for their service.
the main issue is that everyone that i play games with is already on ps4/5 and i’m not looking to buy another console just so i can pay for another subscription service for games i normally wouldn’t play anyways. i appreciate what game pass brings to the table but i had it on pc and didn’t play 99% of the games even though i could have played them any time i wanted.
there are also no exclusives that warrant me buying an xbox for right now. does anyone actually have the time to be gaming on multiple consoles and multiple games?
I have multiple consoles and handhelds, unfortunately I just focus on one or two games so that means some of the consoles just become dust collectors for a few weeks or a month or two.
I have all the consoles and don't have time to play all the games I want to play (or even half). But when I am ready to play, I can play what I want and with who I want.
Most probably dont have time they just sit there blowing out bull because its there love for MS. Also people be saying they get to try out games they normal wont buy which probably the same ones that dont even play or like indie games to begin with. I dont have to go through every game on GP to find what I might like. I would already know my type of game or non type before i buy it.
Gamepass major advantage is the day one releases of *NEW* AAA, AA and Indie games for it´s subscribers. Be that first, second or third party. I can´t wait for Atomic Heart!
Just a few more days
I personally like Game Pass more than PS Plus
Multiple major advantages, off the top of my head:
- day 1 releases
- supports PC
- cross platform progression
- cross platform multiplayer
And I likely missed a bunch.
Sony should at least allow progression between PC and PS5 on their own games, regardless of PS+ coming to PC.
