We plugged the PSVR2 into a PC, and here’s what it does

The PSVR2 can’t be used with SteamVR just yet.

I think it's a matter of time, especially if Valve updates Steam VR. However, to get it working with all the features intact will be quite challenging I imagine.

CobraKai826d ago

It’d be smart since Sony is venturing into PC. As expensive as VR2 is, it’s feature rich where is a good deal for PC owners too.

Tom Warren is the Microsoft dedicated reporter. He has a history of reporting MS leaks from information he received 'off the record.' This is a problem because it means the political agenda-driven tech website is reporting on stories, often DIRECTLY from a company, and not able to say where it received information from. The problem with this is that it leaves companies like, for a hypothetical example, Microsoft able to manipulate staff and impose conditions eg, 'You can break the Mixer story failure but you mustn't use these negative words.' The actual story's headline was changed after the event!.

The problem became so bad that The Verge at the end of 2021 updated its ethics policy. Understandably, no specific member of staff was publicly named or criticised.
https://www.theverge.com/pr...

The Verge editorial is apparently ringfenced from the advertising division - which means there is no contact between the staff who run advertising & sponsorships and the reporters to ensure advertisers do not use the threat of removing spending to influence review scores.

Off the record, there has been in journalistic circles claims of which major company is a consistent regular spender.

There would be no way to integrate all the features in with existing PC games, like the eye tracking, haptic feedback, resistive triggers, etc... You could make it work, but it would be a gimped version of the full thing.

MrNinosan825d ago

Except it's not expensive, but I agree it would be nice to have it on PC as well.
If it was compatiblez it would be by far the best deal in VR.

More than half the price from other high end headsets that still doesn't have the same specs.

fr0sty824d ago

Looks like some folks don't realize support for the PSVR exclusive stuff has to be coded into the game, it doesn't just automatically work if you connect it to a PC. This will require developers to have to update their games to support it, which many won't. They aren't even updating all PSVR games to support the PSVR 2 stuff...

This is awesome since I already own a bunch of VR games on SteamVR. I think it's likely gonna be easier to get this headset working on PC compared to PSVR1 since all the tracking mechanics are probably happening in the headset itself without relying on image processing from an external source. Keeping my fingers crossed

Limitedtimestruggle826d ago

I'll definitely get one if this get PC compatibility , no doubt!

jznrpg826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

Maybe you get one anyway and a PS5 . Unless you are a competitive gamer I don’t see the reason not to get console instead of PC . PS5 runs games great , loading is insanely faster than anything and you do t have to wait for PS games and don’t have to worry about what is coming to PC and what isn’t . They give you a library to start and you can sell your used games when you are done plus PS games good value . A lot ofgames even get more expensive when they have somewhat limited prints . Extra fps and a little bit of detail is only gained it’s the high end PC’s . You don’t really notice 120fps to 60fps unless you play online shooters . But if you mainly play single player stuff PS5 is hard to beat imo and no waiting or hoping for games .

KeeseToast826d ago

I don’t wanna be tied to a single platform with my VR headset, especially when I pay more for it then the platform itself. Even the Quest 2 can be used with a PC.
PS5 is great, but PC has really big backlog for VR games

mocaak826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

Pretty ignorant comment. There is far more to PC gaming than just competitive games and waiting for Sony's exclusives. Now is probably the best time ever to have PC as a single gaming platform. Console exlusives (real ones, not a bullshit term that Microsoft came up with for their marketing), like Red Dead Redemption, Tekken, Final Fantasy, etc, are almost nonexistent since 8th gen. Plus all Microsoft games are available day one,and some Playstation games are also being ported. There is a huge amount of PC exlusives, more than any other platform combined, even though quality may be debatable. And this is all on top of usual benefits that PC has always had, freedom, performance, infinite backwards compatability, costumization.

I agree that PS5 is an amazing console to have as a single gaming platform, but better than a PC, and to say one should choose over the other, come on.

thesoftware730826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

That was such a bad take and downplay of what PC gaming offers, let us take a look.

"loading is insanely faster than anything and you do t have to wait for PS games and don’t have to worry about what is coming to PC and what isn’t"

There are tons and tons of PC games that do not make it to the console as well, go look at steam brother, even certain genres work better on PC. Then you have mods that can extend the longevity of some games. You can even get better versions of some of Sony's first-party games, Console-only games on PC are becoming more and more of a non-issue.

"You don’t really notice 120fps to 60fps unless you play online shooters ."
That is one of the silliest things I ever read from you, you 100% can tell the difference, and why dismiss online shooters? which is a huge genre, because it fits your narrative.

"They give you a library to start and you can sell your used games when you are done plus PS games good value . "
You are kidding right? where do you trade games and get a good value? I use to trade my games back in the day and for a $60 game, stores like GS give you $25.

"Extra fps and a little bit of detail are only gained it’s the high end PC’s ."
If you go high-end, you get a lot more detail, even when you look at Sony's own 1st party PC games, they kick the crap out of the console versions. You talked up slightly faster loading on PS, then dismiss/downplay actual game-changing features like FPS and graphic fidelity, that is strange take my friend.

What about things like not having to pay for online services PC? What about being able to prioritize almost any setting in a game? What about games being cheaper a lot faster and more often?

I am a primary console gamer with a nice PC, I do 85% of my gaming on consoles, but understand and love the options my PC provides. The only barrier I see with PC for some people would be the Price of putting together a strong rig.

But seriously, no disrespect, but your post reads like someone who hasn't tried PC gaming.

Classic PlayStation N4G Moment

Limitedtimestruggle826d ago (Edited 826d ago )

Got a PS5 at launch, but you missed the point. If I could get a high specced headset like this to work on PC+ PS5..that would be ace! Because the set is THAT dann good! Extreme kudos to Sony in that regard!

And you are of course completely wrong about 60 vs 120fps. The difference is there, even with a gamepad..and ESPECIALLY with mouse and keyboard. I have an extreme high-end PC, so I would know.

And as always the Sony Defence Force are out dealing downvotes, it’s hilarious <3

FinalFantasyFanatic826d ago

There is so much wrong with this comment, I love my consoles, and the Playstation is pretty damn great, but you clearly have no idea about PC. PC can easily leap over a console in terms of graphical fidelity and you easily do notice the difference in 120/60fps, 120fps makes 60fps look choppy, even in single player games, even the XSX and PS5 have a high frame rate mode for the majority of games.

I think give it a few months. Sony will provide official drivers for pc. Makes sense tbh. They can then release say Call of the Mountain in a years time for pc.

bunt-custardly826d ago

I like what you wrote very much. But it's totally wishful thinking imo. I hope you are right though.

ocelot07826d ago

Think about it they released official drivers for the ps5 controllers. They are relseasing games on pc after a few years.

It's not like the old PSVR that needs a camera and processing unit. This is just a single usb c cable.

In a few months allow ps5 owners to enjoy it for 6 months. Then release drivers for pc. So just like the quest 2. Works on pc or its own thing. In the ps5 case pc and ps5.

bunt-custardly826d ago

Seeing as they are using separate store fronts, why not have SONY enabled this now rather than as you suggest 6 months down the line. At least then, they can claim higher demand for it. Not sure what the stock levels will be like as of now but will be interesting to see if it sells out immediately.

FinalFantasyFanatic826d ago

I think we're more likely to see some fans hack/patch it in then Sony, but who knows.

ZycoFox826d ago

I'm sure if talking VR only, then many are already happy with their Quest 2 since you can tether via wifi, or link cable to your PC and use its hardware to power your games, as well as stand alone.

However it will be interesting to see how fast PSVR gets fully working on PC, unofficially or officially.

It's a top notch experience with those amazing OLED panels, uncompressed clarity and the foveated rendering for improved performance for VR titles.

Are you an AI PR marketing bot?

.. you sound like one. That’s not how normal people talk unless they’re trying to spin some kind of proposed view point.

Babadook710d ago

Nonsense. I’m not a PR person at all. Nothing I’m saying is beyond what’s commonly talked about. Do you know anything about VR?

1nsomniac9d ago

100% that’s what a bot would say!
