Pistol Whip Review (PSVR2) - The Best PSVR2 Launch Title - PSU

Pistol Whip on PSVR2 is quite simply the best launch title for Sony's next-generation VR headset.

SullysCigar798d ago

Awesome game - get ready for a workout!

Thundercat77798d ago

Wow practically all PSVR 2 games are getting fantastic reviews.

porkChop798d ago

Yeah more PCVR games are finally able to make the jump to PSVR 2. There's probably a lot of great games currently being ported.

generic-user-name798d ago

This was on PSVR1 and is a free upgrade if you already own it.

porkChop798d ago

I see they launched it on PS4 the next year. Didn't realize that. I remember playing when it first came out and it was only on PC at the time. It's a great VR game.

CrimsonWing69798d ago

Boys, I’m starting to feel the hype for PSVR 2, now!

Dandalandan117798d ago

One of my favorite game on the Quest 2/PSVR

badz149798d ago

I'm so jealous of those who can play with VR. I tried PSVR (Farpoint was the game) and not even 15 minutes later, I puked and had to be driven home by my wife LOL and I never touched it again. I can't stand high fps games for some reason and I always feel sick using shaky camera in games even at 60fps. that's the reason I have stopped playing FPS games altogether as I always feel sick. and just watching the trailer for this game just now and I'm already feeling a little dizzy! I think you guys know the game Sunset Overdrive? been playing (at least trying) that game at on my 165Hz monitor is torture! is there any trick to avoid this?

CosmicTurtle798d ago

Farpoint is rough. Try something like Astrobot where you are external to the scene a nice comfortable camera position. Different games have different comfort levels. I can manage Farpoint mostly, but it is one of the ones that makes me uncomfortable.

Eidolon797d ago

Your brain is operating at some other level. I don't see how there can be a trick....

badz149797d ago

this started just some couple of years ago though. previously I played lots of FPS games but now not anymore due to this problem. my eyes are getting too sensitive to high fps images that I have to play my games at 30fps (now what we call as fidelity mode) just so I won't get nauseous. the only game left that I can play at 60fps or higher are racing games like GT or Forza. imagine having a 165Hz monitor and OLED TV just so I can play my games at 30fps! oh now I remember Returnal that runs minimum at 60fps, I stopped playing Returnal due to this issue as well. damn!

Dandalandan117797d ago

You should take it slow bro.
You have to start with something that doesn't require much movement first.
The usual favorites are games like Beat Saber. Then you can go for something like Pistol Whip after that. I used to suffer headaches with VR as well particularly when I tried games that allow full movement like Vader Immortal. It took me probably around 2 weeks to get comfortable and finally develop my VR legs.

ZycoFox797d ago

I've only had that with poorly made game cameras, like Dead Island, which has excessive camera sway.

Eidolon797d ago

Damn, dude, that sucks. I think probably still you need to get the brain checked, could become even worse later and noit just for games... I've heard of headaches or nausea after some VR sessions, but this sounds more serious.

Petebloodyonion797d ago

You should try games where you stay seated at the start.
Having a fan will also help with motion sickness because it helps your brain with knowing exactly where you are in real life.
Play VR in short bursts and stop the moment you start having symptoms.
Mimic your body and what're doing for example walking (move arms and legs a bit).

bunt-custardly797d ago (Edited 797d ago )

It's called VR training or VR legs and some software developer really needs to make a game about this to help people.

What is happening to you?

Your brain is being tricked into thinking the body is in motion, but it is not. You are sitting in front of a TV or standing/sitting with a VR headset on. The body's natural defence is to believe there is some alien entity inside you such as poison, so it reacts by making you sick. This is classic VR/Motion sickness. Some people get the sickness because they go in too hard, too fast, for too long (it creeps up on you and before you know it, you're puking or have to lie down for hours feeling grotty).

Solution:

You need to train your brain to not treat VR like some kind infection/poison, and become acclimatised to it.

To begin, as others have mentioned, play a game with a fairly static camera for 15 minutes. Then progress from there. DO NOT just dive into a fast-paced game and think you can even play for 10 minutes. Do a 5 minute session, take a break, then do another 5. When you feel confident, move up to 10 minute sessions and so on.

The good news (hopefully), your body will stop treating VR like an infection and you will be able to play the most demanding games with ease for as long as you like.

Good advice. It's a testament to what a big deal VR is that we need guidance on how to physically deal with it.

franwex797d ago

I used to feel like that when 3D games were just starting to come out. Even Super Mario 64 made me feel a bit nauseous. Eventually your body should adjust.

VR too makes me sick after a few minutes. It’s something I’m excited for and will jump on in the next few years.

Nothing of interest for me.

Night in the Woods is a lovely little indie graphic adventure. Alec Holowka conceptualised the game, the story and characters and made the beautiful music and was effectively murdered by the woke video game journalists who dog piled on top of him following false allegations.

This is one of the reasons I can’t stand most of these people, because they have no understanding of journalistic ethics which led to this poor man taking his own life.

Don't sleep on The Plucky Squire

I am excited with The Plucky Squire.

northpaws225d ago

Yes, it looks very creative and clean looking as well.

TheNamelessOne225d ago (Edited 225d ago )

Under Water and Chernobylite are great gets. I also really enjoyed Road 96.

Einhander1972225d ago

Yea, this is actually a really good month.

These are games that are well regarded and have been highly praised.

I haven't played Road 96, but it seems like something i'd enjoy, I'm definitely going to give it a try.

Petebloodyonion225d ago

For once it's a great month for Premium users:
Mr Mosquito is an hidden gem from the Ps2 era
Agent Clank is a great PSP game just like Pistol whip for VR.

But what a drag for extra users...
Still I Ill give The Plucky Squire a go ( and it's day 1 too)
