IGN: Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II Review

For a total of ten bucks, it's a great idea to invest in the complete StarTropics experience on Virtual Console. Giving us the first game in the year's first update and the second in the last was a nice way to bookend 2008, Nintendo. Well done.

The Best Hidden Gems for the NES

How hidden can a gem possibly be? I mean, we’ve had like 35 years to discover these games. Presumably, they were never really hidden. This list should be more like Games You Forgot. Regardless, these are some affordable games that you will probably enjoy if you're an NES fan.

If "Platoon" doesn't have Willem Dafoe, I'm not sure I can buy it.

Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II Review | Nintendo Life

NL:
Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II is a sequel that could have been absolutely great, and almost did everything right by improving on a clunky control scheme to make the action sections more fun. Sadly, its overworld and characters are disappointingly unimaginative in comparison to the first, leaving us with an adventure that's mechanically improved but creatively lacking. We still think it's definitely worth checking out, and perhaps by any other name we'd have even been less harsh, but any entry in the StarTropics franchise has some rather big and charmingly silly shoes to fill. Let's be honest here; it just isn't the same without the yo-yo!

StarTropics, How I love Thee!

Todd Pasalic of Gaming Rebellion Writes: What is your favorite NES game of all time?

Many of you would choose Super Mario 3, and I wouldn’t blame you – it’s a great game with solid platforming and awesome music. Some of you would choose The Legend of Zelda, because it has really fun dungeons to conquer. Me? I chose something different.

Don’t get me wrong, both those games are excellent, and I had lots of fun playing with them (and still do, to this day). However, there is one game I love even more than those two. Even though this game wasn’t as popular as a Mario or a Zelda title, it was still loved by many.

That game… is StarTropics!

Another NES IP that needs to make a triumphant return.

Oh how i would love to see a modern sequel. If you like zelda games you will like startropics. I think if nintendo pushed to new gen gamers it could be a hit.

I have it, but never full on beat it. I'm going to have to re-visit it one of these days, because I have fond memories of playing this game briefly many years ago.

Fantastic game, great music, fun story and weapons. Dipping that page in the manual in water to REVEAL A HIDDEN FRIGGN' CODE NECESSARY TO PROCEED! Yep, this game is awesome. It is a shame that the series has been forgotten as far as Nintendo is really concerned.
