How Hogwarts Legacy Shines Despite Its Tragic Launch State

Hogwarts Legacy launched in a highly questionable state, yet this does not take away from the experience that's at its core.

Game has worked and looked flawlessly for me on ps5.

Not exactly sure what the op is talking about, this is easily one of the cleanest releases of a big title, and I had early access to and it was fine ore patch aswell

Well, the loading screens and spinning loading wheels when you try to open doors are not great. The point of PS5's SSD was supposed to be there wouldn't be spinning loading wheels when you go to open a door. At that point I'd rather have them hide the load behind a slow door opening animation or something.

But yeah as far as performance goes this game has launched in a better state than a lot of similar games do.

However, just playing the game on PS5 and seeing the smaller issues there, it's easy to see that this game is going to be a trainwreck on PS4 and Xbox One. Presumably there will be long loading screens at every door, massive pop in issues, and a tragically low frame rate. That's to say nothing of Switch.

Thats the only thing I've seen wrong. But it doesn't happen often and it's only for 1 or 2 seconds so I'm not too fussed

The loading wheel doors are a nit pick but noticeable. For my entire play through I had 3 problems.
1 hard crash
1 corrupted save file where it loaded me under the map unable to move. Luckily an auto save was available and I didn’t lose too much progress
1 section near the end where the frames dropped to about 1fps. A pause to the menu fixed it though.
Other than that I’ve had no issues during gameplay in my 43hrs.

I mean, that's great for you... As a PC player, this has not been a great launch. I bought the deluxe edition to play it early. And have only put in a couple hours, because it just won't stay at a stable frame rate. Some areas run flawlessly on my PC at 60 FPS on high settings. Other areas drop to under 10 FPS on even medium/low settings. Just doesn't make sense. Really hoping they get to fixing the PC version soon. They clearly focused on consoles over the PC port on this one.

The game itself is really great, I just want to be able to play it without it turning into a slideshow at the most random times.

other than tiny open world clipping bugs in the world (i have yet to see a open world game not having these) i dont see what the author is referring too. game runs and plays great on ps5 for me

Tragic launch state? It’s been pretty f*cking amazing for me. Maybe I’m just lucky.

Snookies12851d ago

Please don't make an actual issue a joke. It's not exactly fair to PC players who were looking forward to this, only to have it filled with performance issues. This was one of the only games I was really looking forward to lately. It sucks that I can't really enjoy it because of the issues it's having right now.

So not master race?

That does suck though. Hopefully they’ll get it quick.

I mean, did anyone think the Switch 2 would be comparable to current-gen? Yea, I’m pretty sure it’s going to give you PS4 quality looking/playing games and in a couple years we’ll be onto PS6 and most third-party games will either be downgraded to hell or just not be available on Switch 2 🤷‍♂️.

Profchaos3d ago

I was never under any illusion it would compare to series s imagine the battery life

ABizzel13d ago (Edited 3d ago )

It’s doing exactly what I expected and what it needed to do base Xbox One settings in most games upscaled to 2x the resolution with DLSS when docked, and running with better performance. What more can you ask for out of a 10w - ~57w~ platform

Current-gen AAA Games (SX/PS5): 540p @ 30-40fps most games upscaled to 1080p @ 30-40fps
Last-gen AAA Games (XBO/PS4): 720p @ 30-60fps most games upscaled to 1440p @ 30-60fps
PS360/Switch AAA Games: 1080p @ 30-60fps most games upscaled to 1440p-4K @ 30-60fps
Rare cases the PS360/Switch games at 1080p@120fps games like Metroid

And that’s perfectly fine, except docked mode on AAA games could become fairly blurry on large 4K displays.

Babadook73d ago

Sorry, I disagree with this sentiment. The Switch 2 is a current gen machine and well above the PS4 Pro. It goes toe to toe with the Series S due to great DLSS and a modern architecture in many games. This game (Hogwarts Legacy) has always been the poorest example of what the Switch 2 can do and appears to simply be a bad port. Cyberpunk 2077 is on the other hand a great port.

for a handheld it's quite nice, but don't go in expecting a serious console. Keep your PS5 and/or PC. You can tell a huge difference in those long distance shots w the foilage/grass. But again on an 8 inch screen, I bet it looks and plays decent enough.

Neonridr3d ago

the way I look at it, the PS4 Pro still had some gorgeous games. If I could have games that looked like TLOU2 on the system, would I really care about what it would look like on a PS5? No.

OtterX3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Only on my 55" 4k do I care for that extra oomph. I would be blown away to have a game on par graphically w the PS4 Pro version of TLOU II on a handheld!

Grilla3d ago

Graphics are irrelevant if it’s not running at 60fps

anast3d ago

Switch 2 is around $450 to $700 depending on the country. Let that sink in. Get that nice '280p' Cyberpunk...

They are comparing the S to the PS4. HA!

Couldn't go 2 sentences without bringing up JK Rowling's viewpoints (which are now acknowledged and supported by the UK Supreme Court). Time for all the "progressive" whiners to latch back on to reality.
