I didn't pick this up I'm personally not a Harry Potter fan and haven't been interested in the property since I was a kid however it's crazy how many people I've seen who are non gamers who are playing this game. I've got multiple friend groups of grown men who wouldn't care for Harry Potter traditionally al playing this game with either thier kids or themselves.

I've just got a feeling anecdotally at least this game did extremely well its very rare to see this group of players engage with any game that isn't a sports game or COD/ battlefield

porkChop853d ago

It's just a really well made game. It has faults and some of the usual open world trappings, but you can tell a lot of love and passion went into the game. Always something new and interesting to see around every corner.

Leeroyw853d ago

I'm a grown man with kids and thoroughly enjoying it. It's bringing me back to great first time gaming experiences like oblivion, Mario 64 and even legend of zelda. Not in game play, but in wonder and excitement. It's a very good game.

MrNinosan853d ago

I have 0 interest in Harry Potter, but this game is on another level.
Combine Fable and Red Dead Redemption 2 and you'll get Hogwarts Legacy.

I had big doubts I'd like it, but was proven wrong.

It seems my PSN friends agree, as half of everyone who's online has been playing it since Tuesday/Friday, which only happened a few times before (Elden Ring, Forbidden West and Ragnarök).

I never cared for IP, never watched a single movie ,.. and I think this is probably the best game I've played in years,..Some Zelda type of quality here,.. of not far surpassing it,.. and it is just getting better and better,..
Just got my broom and a house ,.. it is almost insane how much I am loving this game,.. almost every aspect of it (though on hard it is really pretty hard if you are not very careful

I was never into Harry Potter, I never watched any of the movies nor did I read any of the books. But after watching gameplay videos I was interested. I picked up a copy & I've been playing all weekend, the game is fun.

You missed out on some good movies

Elda853d ago

Movies are subjective. What you think is good to you may not be good to me. Though I enjoy the Hogwarts game I know I wouldn't enjoy the movies. I usually know what interests me when it comes to movies & any other medium of entertainment.

Jin_Sakai853d ago

Same here. I’ve seen some of the movies but never got into the series. Picked up the game and really enjoying it so far.

Lexreborn2853d ago

I watched them with my son a few years back wasn’t a big fan but I went from hating it to thinking they’re okay movies. Picked up hogwarts to play with my son he’s but 2 hours in and I did 9 so far.

It’s a fun game filled with chuckles like the ghost chasing each other through the halls trying to ghost kill each other. Or the humming armor that gets killed for humming to loud by the other armor.

I think it’s easily an 8 out of 10, but I think it’s being pushed higher due to nostalgia. The dialogue is actually too much, a lot of talking happening that I have just started skipping because I want to play.

Got the broom and flying through the map and finding poachers. Found a mountain troll and throttled him, I have been enjoying these things a lot. Going to download it on my steam deck to see how it runs.

Honestly this month has had 2 games based on magic that just nail it for me. One makes you feel stupid powerful the other seems more controlled. But, a nice switch up from traditional sword and guns games that I needed.

Elda853d ago

I guess that's why I picked up Hogwarts due to the gameplay videos I've watched that I thought was interesting & me just finishing the magic fantasy game Forspoken which was fun but so short. Again...the HP movies I just have no interest to watch still to this day...lol.

Dandalandan117853d ago

I consider myself a casual fan. Haven't read any books but I did watch the movies. I rarely purchase games day 1 nowadays, especially multiplatform ones. I decided to pull the trigger this time since I was intrigued with the premise and also wanted to explore the world that they've created. I'm probably just about 5 hours in but I'm really enjoying the experience so far. Does it push the envelope in terms of graphics or gameplay? Not really. It is artistically gorgeous though and the combat is surprisingly fun as well. I haven't even experienced flying the broom yet so I'm really looking forward to that as well.
I can't even imagine what the hardcore HP fans are feeling right now. They're probably stoked about this game.

I mean, did anyone think the Switch 2 would be comparable to current-gen? Yea, I’m pretty sure it’s going to give you PS4 quality looking/playing games and in a couple years we’ll be onto PS6 and most third-party games will either be downgraded to hell or just not be available on Switch 2 🤷‍♂️.

Profchaos2d ago

I was never under any illusion it would compare to series s imagine the battery life

ABizzel12d ago (Edited 2d ago )

It’s doing exactly what I expected and what it needed to do base Xbox One settings in most games upscaled to 2x the resolution with DLSS when docked, and running with better performance. What more can you ask for out of a 10w - ~57w~ platform

Current-gen AAA Games (SX/PS5): 540p @ 30-40fps most games upscaled to 1080p @ 30-40fps
Last-gen AAA Games (XBO/PS4): 720p @ 30-60fps most games upscaled to 1440p @ 30-60fps
PS360/Switch AAA Games: 1080p @ 30-60fps most games upscaled to 1440p-4K @ 30-60fps
Rare cases the PS360/Switch games at 1080p@120fps games like Metroid

And that’s perfectly fine, except docked mode on AAA games could become fairly blurry on large 4K displays.

Babadook72d ago

Sorry, I disagree with this sentiment. The Switch 2 is a current gen machine and well above the PS4 Pro. It goes toe to toe with the Series S due to great DLSS and a modern architecture in many games. This game (Hogwarts Legacy) has always been the poorest example of what the Switch 2 can do and appears to simply be a bad port. Cyberpunk 2077 is on the other hand a great port.

OtterX3d ago

for a handheld it's quite nice, but don't go in expecting a serious console. Keep your PS5 and/or PC. You can tell a huge difference in those long distance shots w the foilage/grass. But again on an 8 inch screen, I bet it looks and plays decent enough.

Neonridr3d ago

the way I look at it, the PS4 Pro still had some gorgeous games. If I could have games that looked like TLOU2 on the system, would I really care about what it would look like on a PS5? No.

OtterX3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Only on my 55" 4k do I care for that extra oomph. I would be blown away to have a game on par graphically w the PS4 Pro version of TLOU II on a handheld!

Grilla2d ago

Graphics are irrelevant if it’s not running at 60fps

anast2d ago

Switch 2 is around $450 to $700 depending on the country. Let that sink in. Get that nice '280p' Cyberpunk...

They are comparing the S to the PS4. HA!

Couldn't go 2 sentences without bringing up JK Rowling's viewpoints (which are now acknowledged and supported by the UK Supreme Court). Time for all the "progressive" whiners to latch back on to reality.
