Hogwarts Legacy on PS4, Switch, and Xbox One Has an Uphill Battle Ahead of It

Hogwarts Legacy is earning a great deal of praise so far, but the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions have a unique problem to solve.

Just leave it behind. We’re almost 3 years into current gen.

Christopher855d ago

I can only imagine the time delay in opening doors on PS4/XBO.

It is possible that the PS4 and Xbox One may phase out this year as the trend suggests that after three years, game development tends to slow down and the systems may become more affordable, possibly around the holiday season.

I know, right!? My god let us get next-gen started for chrissakes!

Tacoboto855d ago

Bought the Deluxe Edition on PS5, have a couple hours in already and I'm really liking it. But I agree with the above - forget at least the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Based on PC player count already, they'll have plenty of sales from that and current gen to be more than profitable if they aren't already.

My complaints are purely technical and seem addressable as they optimize the engine for weaker machines - spinning the camera too fast and you can see blank spots from polygon culling, opening doorways especially when going in and out has that awkward loading. I can't imagine what the loading will be like on an Xbone and just hope whatever they do for last gen polish ends up benefiting the current.

Hopefully the patch that's supposed to drop tomorrow will fix most, if not all of those issues.

Tacoboto855d ago

Oh ok - the Day One Patch is that patch? I was thinking the Day One Patch was the one that introduced Fidelity Ray Tracing along with a few other pre-release fixes earlier this week, I'm glad if I was thinking of that wrong.

TeamIcoFan855d ago

So far as I know, the day one patch scheduled for the 10th is supposed to fix various bugs and offer performance improvements.

camel_toad855d ago

Makes the 3 day pre-access seem like a quick beta to get a few extra kinks out before the full roll-out.

Either way Im enjoying the little Ive played. Been surprised and impressed with the graphics and motion capture. Fun variety of gameplay and they nailed the feel of every little thing in the world.

I just have to wrap up midnight suns and dead space so I can focus on it!

Demetrius855d ago

Imagine if it wasn’t cross gen there would be even more enhancing it looks great right now too

anast855d ago

It sucks for those still on last gen. tech, but current gen. is here now.

Vectro855d ago

I can't even imagine how this game would run on the switch hardware. This has to be a cloud version (and we all know how well those play).

I mean, did anyone think the Switch 2 would be comparable to current-gen? Yea, I’m pretty sure it’s going to give you PS4 quality looking/playing games and in a couple years we’ll be onto PS6 and most third-party games will either be downgraded to hell or just not be available on Switch 2 🤷‍♂️.

Profchaos1d 13h ago

I was never under any illusion it would compare to series s imagine the battery life

ABizzel11d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

It’s doing exactly what I expected and what it needed to do base Xbox One settings in most games upscaled to 2x the resolution with DLSS when docked, and running with better performance. What more can you ask for out of a 10w - ~57w~ platform

Current-gen AAA Games (SX/PS5): 540p @ 30-40fps most games upscaled to 1080p @ 30-40fps
Last-gen AAA Games (XBO/PS4): 720p @ 30-60fps most games upscaled to 1440p @ 30-60fps
PS360/Switch AAA Games: 1080p @ 30-60fps most games upscaled to 1440p-4K @ 30-60fps
Rare cases the PS360/Switch games at 1080p@120fps games like Metroid

And that’s perfectly fine, except docked mode on AAA games could become fairly blurry on large 4K displays.

Babadook71d 11h ago

Sorry, I disagree with this sentiment. The Switch 2 is a current gen machine and well above the PS4 Pro. It goes toe to toe with the Series S due to great DLSS and a modern architecture in many games. This game (Hogwarts Legacy) has always been the poorest example of what the Switch 2 can do and appears to simply be a bad port. Cyberpunk 2077 is on the other hand a great port.

OtterX1d 14h ago

for a handheld it's quite nice, but don't go in expecting a serious console. Keep your PS5 and/or PC. You can tell a huge difference in those long distance shots w the foilage/grass. But again on an 8 inch screen, I bet it looks and plays decent enough.

Neonridr1d 14h ago

the way I look at it, the PS4 Pro still had some gorgeous games. If I could have games that looked like TLOU2 on the system, would I really care about what it would look like on a PS5? No.

OtterX1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

Only on my 55" 4k do I care for that extra oomph. I would be blown away to have a game on par graphically w the PS4 Pro version of TLOU II on a handheld!

Grilla1d 10h ago

Graphics are irrelevant if it’s not running at 60fps

anast1d 10h ago

Switch 2 is around $450 to $700 depending on the country. Let that sink in. Get that nice '280p' Cyberpunk...

They are comparing the S to the PS4. HA!

Couldn't go 2 sentences without bringing up JK Rowling's viewpoints (which are now acknowledged and supported by the UK Supreme Court). Time for all the "progressive" whiners to latch back on to reality.
