Naughty Dog's Uncharted is dead. Not the franchise, the franchise is being worked on by another studio now. We never claimed that the franchise was dead.
It finished strong and didn't overstay it's welcome. ND needs to work on something else anyways. Just hopefully Drakes story is done. I would love a young sully though.
That’s ND’s MO, and I respect that. After the 6th gen, many were put out that Jak and Daxter was retired, but if ND kept focusing on that we likely wouldn’t have gotten Uncharted. I respect a company who knows when to end a series so they can focus on something new, and here’s hoping whatever they create next will be just as amazing.
They'll never do that. Uncharted had many opportunities to kill one of its main cast, but it never did. The games are light-hearted in their nature unlike The Last of Us.
It’s totally ok for a franchise to end. I would say that franchise was a very intricate part of Sony developing great franchises. As much as people love it, who knows what new projects they could come up with at naughty dog.
What is this now, article #10 about the same topic? The IP will get used again. Hopefully in the distant after ND gets a reorg and loses the nail in the foot called Neil. So nice that they spent all their resources on Neil’s version of the walking dead during the last decade. Oh yeah, and that third person stealth-cover system, please for the love of Daxter, do something…anything new.
All Open World games has run into the Ground. Time for something New and different from open world games (imo) they became Boring same "shit" over and over and over again.
Neither TLOU or Uncharted are open world games. Some wider gameplay area, but a farcry from open world.
@vengeance
That's an opinion, definitely not a fact. TLOU has scope for much more and provided Naughty Dog feel they can continue to do it justice, we will see more.
They will make another one, if they don't want to use nathan, they could use his daughter grown up and she gets stuck in a bad situation and then the team come to help her. That's what I would do.
That's the last thing I would do. I have no interest whatsoever in playing as his daughter. The game would just be compared to a Tomb Raider clone and the fist fighting would be bloody ridiculous. Sony's franchises already have female protagonists with Horizon and The Last Of Us. I also wouldn't let woke warrior Neil Druckman anywhere near the project to inevitably sap all the fun out of it.
If it were up to me, I'd start afresh with a completely new cast of characters, universe and timeline. Just off the top of my head, perhaps a swashbuckling adventure playing as Sir Francis Drake.
For a long time Crash was dead. They kept making games but the Crash that became the PSX mascot died after Crash Bash... Possibly WOC if you're feeling generous. I long say Naughty Dogs missing presence was the reason why, then Toys For Bob revived him in all his past, present and future glory. I was wrong. Tomb Raider had some of the highest highs and lowest lows, but each decade some new developments brings it back with a new flair.
Uncharted might have a great next outing, or it might be trash. It may end up remembered as a once great series, or continue long into the future as the modern day Indiana Jones. No matter what happens, we got four fun, and funny, as hell games out of it. That's more than a lot of developers could dream of.
Kill the whole franchise. The story is over. Anything more at this point from a different developer is just cynical money grabbing because people develop parasocial relationships with fictitious characters and you can easily exploit people if you can bypass their logic centers and tickle their emotional response. It's not like they can create an original story that doesn't rely on all of the pre-established Uncharted story-telling tropes that were tired in Uncharted 3 and felt like parody by 4. And I played and thoroughly enjoyed the 4 mainline entries.
I just accept everything I love and enjoy will either fade away or become a languishing corpse of it's former self, let's just leave this series on a high note for now.
It's not dead it leaves the door open to other possibilities like a game with Chloe and Nadine, Drake's daughter, Drake's brother Sam with Sully, or possibly a younger Nathan. Dead would mean nothing not even a peep like Wild Arms, Killzone, Resistance those great titles are pretty much dead. And I mean there was an Uncharted movie so there is still something alive with Uncharted.
I'm happy with what we got, I wouldn't want the series to drag on and become a shadow of it's former self with mediocre sequels and spinoffs like some franchises. I really don't feel that there's much more they can do with Nate and friends, it ended well enough.
I remember when everyone said the "Tomb Raider franchise is dead" after Angel of Darkness. Fast forward a years later and the franchise was revived for a few more games
Its not dead, it's retired theres a difference.
Whoever makes Uncharted 5 will have great support from Sony's Visual Arts studio who helps with every Naughty Dog game so the IP will be fine indeed
Uncharted will be back with a new saga and probably new protagonist.
Uncharted will live long in my memory.
