I can't see the interest being high for long, if at all. I give it 2-3 months at best before the player base leaves

thesoftware730877d ago

What kind of crystal ball do you have?

So you are saying the entire player base? 10%, 50%, 100%.

What a doozy of a comment, based on you not liking the way the game ' looks'. That gave you the right to predict that a studio with a pedigree of making good games with legs will have no player base after 2 months, ok pal, try to put some actual context in your baseless comments as they come off empty very often.

crazyCoconuts877d ago

That screenshot the article used certainly doesn't do it justice. The gameplay videos looked better, but it's not a good looking game by modern standards

JEECE877d ago

Yeah admittedly if I didn't love Arkane I'd probably be skipping this based on what I've seen. But Dishonored was great, and Deathloop was wildly underappreciated (by gamers, critics actually liked it), so I'm willing to give this a shot, particularly since it's on GP. But if it turns out to be one of those "yes we said you could play it single player but it isn't balanced or fun when you do that" situations, I'm going to lose interest fast because I doubt any of my friends have heard of this game.

CBaoth877d ago

sorry but we differ on Deathloop. Worst money I spent this gen so far on a game. Straight garbage compared to Dishonored and what's worse moving forward they wanna do more games like that instead of Dishonored. Funny how the cringey dialogue in that was overlooked but it's absolutely a travesty in Forspoken. Felt like it was written by a frat boy intern hired by Bethesda straight from a Full Sails commencement ceremony.

JEECE877d ago

@CBaoth

I don't really understand the "love Dishonored but hate Deathloop" thing, unless it is very specifically tied to Deathloop's rouguelite type elements. The games are pretty similar in terms of gameplay (powers, traversal, etc), world building, AI, art style, and writing, so I can how people hate both or like both, but only liking one is confusing. I mean if you ask me which is better overall, it's Dishonored, but it's not a night and day comparison by any stretch.

Lol also I'm not sure where you were when Deathloop came out but plenty of people criticized the writing.

thesoftware730877d ago

I strongly disagree, I think it looks great and like a lot of fun.

Opinions, am I right?

4Sh0w877d ago

Well I wouldn't say trash but based on what I've seen so far it looks medicore at best. Nothing really unique about it imo. I dont know but to me a new IP really should nail at least 1 thing/aspect that makes you go wow, if not its just another shooter.

FlavorLav01877d ago

Looks better than Starfield in my opinion. Not super stoked for either game really but this will likely be Xbox’s best console exclusive experience this year besides another good old trusty Forza…

wiz7191877d ago

Lol your only saying that because you don’t get to try it out for yourself , gaming sucks when you tie your nuts to just one platform .. glad I own all three

That Bethesda acquisition is going to pay off with games like this. It has got to be embarrassing for them.

crazyCoconuts877d ago

It's not even out yet though. How do we know it won't be good?
I mean, let's keep an open mind and give it a chance before crapping on them? This studio has produced some good games prior to the acquisition...

anast876d ago

I won't be worth it in the future. They bought Bethesda on their decline.

crazyCoconuts876d ago

I agree about the decline comment. Odds are against. But I'm hopeful they'll pull a good game out. I really liked Deathloop...

I signed up for GP so I am only interested in the main game. But definitely this is a reach for even $10 forget $30

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH877d ago

I’m looking forward to Redfall more than any game announced this year so far. It’s my type of game and I love all the previous games the devs have made so I know I’ll love this one.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88177d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z177d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan294d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187294d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72393d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood393d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007393d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
