I remember back in the day old sayin: Whoever gets a 10 mill advantage has won the generation.

lodossrage136d ago

Greenburg only says things like that when his company has a price advantage and a year (1 1/2 years in Europe) advantage of being on the market alone.

I'm a long time gamer and I do not recall any such saying.

Me and my friends played NES, Master system, SNES, Genesis, 3DO, Jaguar, TG 16(Turbo Duo) and everything up until now...with those systems gamers did not really care about sales..it was all about the games, all the time.

Even from PS1 and N64, it still was about games. This whole, who sells better is the best nonsense started to get big with the 360 and PS3.

Here you go:

Don Mattrick said of the figures, "History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry.”

"This whole, who sells better is the best nonsense started to get big with the 360 and PS3."

I agree that sales were not as big as it is today prior to that gen. Can you guess why it started pick up during the PS360 days?

You must have a terrible memory, I'm guessing you don't remember xbox saying single player games are a waste of time and how kinect couldn't just be turned off either 🤣

@Sully,

I have never heard that saying...so sue me for not knowing a quote from a corporate suit..donkey years ago lol.

And if you noticed my whole comment shows that I was being truthful...I took it as a gamer saying, not a company, and then I even said that didn't become a thing until 360 & PS3, exactly when the quote was said.

Stan, my bad for not getting your reference, that I still don't agree with lol.

So yeah, here I go making sense no matter which way you slice it.

Stanjara136d ago

Yes, it was a quote back in 360 days... based on business history at that time.

So Sega, SNES, PS1/2 ... previous trends made that pattern to be noticed.

People learn new things every day.

It's better to say I didn't heard of it but hey I looked it up and I learn something new, than be pfff I played pong day one and never heard this Bs before. Ridiculous. No meter how you slice it.

It is what it is. We' old dude :)

SullysCigar136d ago

But you were just saying you're a long time gamer... suddenly Don Mattrick is "donkey years ago"? Okay.

Would a more recent example be better for you - say, this generation?

A 43% increase from last year. Just show how low the supply of ps5 was from last December. Sony is really starting to have much more ps5 to sell.

rlow1136d ago

The Switch is killing it and by those numbers has pulled away from the PS4. Almost a million sold just before Christmas. That’s impressive.

Numbers for PS5 and Xbox S/X are solid all the way around. But surprisingly the industry is down for the year.
