Dead Space Remake Map to Be in 2D Instead of 3D to Improve Clarity, Says Motive

The Dead Space remake map will be in 2D instead of 3D, and Motive Studio explains why they made this change.

remembered how the game used a 3D in-game map, which — while it looked cool at the time — wasn’t really all that user-friendly.
I don't agree at all. The map was not only cool but fit the technology of that universe. It made it even more immersive. Doom uses a similar map style and I love it, no issues with a 3D map at all. I would have preferred an option to toggle between 2D/3D instead of outright getting rid if it.

Sonic1881856d ago

And they're charging $70 dollars for a 15 year old game lol

kopp3rbug855d ago

No, the 15 year old game is 10 bucks. The yet un-released remake is 70....🙄 . Before you go on a rant about how you know, save it, I know you know. Don't like the price tag, don't buy it, just don't say it's the same game and choose to ignore the developer videos that were uploaded showing exactly what has changed and what new tech is driving the new experience.

Profchaos855d ago

They have not blocked you from buying the original so if you don't want to buy the game then don't it's not a basic remaster it's a significant upgrade I'd argue more of an upgrade than tlou remake was

Lionsguard855d ago

That's like being angry that FF7 Remake doesn't just cost you $6-12 because it's a 26 year old game and the original game is often sold for that low. You DO fail to see this logic right? Please say yes, I don't have much faith left in humanity.

ufo8mycat855d ago

I can sort of see where Sonic1881 is coming from. Even though the new Dead Space ‘remake’ has new graphics, textures & sound, its still using the exact same voice acting, story, level design (correct me if I am wrong), so its not a “full new game”, much like Demon Souls wasent. That had exact same levels etc. Games like these, including TLOU ‘Remake’ are not full blown remakes.

Proper examples of what remakes are, are fames like Resident Evil 2 remake & FF7 Remake.

@Lionsguard using a statement like “being angry that FF7 remake doesn’t cost $6-$12 because the original is 26 years old & is low price” isn’t correct because FF7 IS pretty much a new game, whereas games like Dead Space, Demon Souls, TLOU ‘remakes’ are not.

Go compare the graphics, sound, level design, combat of the original FF7 & compare it to the FF7 remake. Its a new game.

Do the same and compare original Dead Space, Demon Souls, and especially TLOU with the ‘remakes’. Lots of similarities because they are the same games, just enhanced. Some games just do a better job in what enhancements are made, but they do not compare to what Resident Evil 2 & FF7 games have done as they are proper remakes.

Theres a big difference between a great remaster and a remake. Lots of people get confused between the 2

Metroplexmaster855d ago

Ufo, eh you are quite wrong, the remake has a completely new voice acting, including a considerable amount of new dialogue, the story will have changes, there will be new levels all levels will be interconnected like Resident evil 2 remake, new dismemberment and gore system, new puzzles, there will be additional side missions, many new cutscenes etc. Yes, it is a remake of the caliber of Re 2 and ff7 remake.

RNTody855d ago (Edited 855d ago )

Likewise ufo8mycat you are getting confused or rather blurring the argument between a reimagining and a remake. Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil 2 are not 1 to 1 remakes, they are reimaginings of the original experiences. Direct remakes would be rebuilt from the ground up exactly how they were all those years ago, fixed cameras and aging mechanics and all.

Demon's Souls and Dead Space are 1 to 1 remakes, taking the original and remaking it from the ground up while also offering quality of life improvements and mechanical changes.

Remasters are simply visual and performance brush ups of the old base game, i.e they touch up an existing product.

While Dead Space might have the skeleton of the original, you cannot argue against the fact that it is absolutely a remake worthy of the name.

The original title is still there if you're happy to play it, I for one am more than glad to play a classic horror title with current technology that will hopefully perfect its original vision. This isn't a patch or DLC to the original, it's rebuilt from the ground up so I don't see why it shouldn't be charged appropriately because it happened to release 14 years ago on dated hardware. This isn't Grand Theft Auto or Skyrim where they literally remaster and re-release the same product. Although GTAV did add an FPS mode I suppose.

With The Last of Us Part 1, the problem is you can argue that it isn't a necessary remake and that's totally fine, you can also argue that it's not worth full price, and that's cool. The issue is it's now a superior product in every metric to the original and by every definition it fits the bill as a remake, there's no point playing the PS3 version of The Last of Us when Part 1 is better in every respect.

However you can argue that there is still value in replaying the original Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7 because they have historical relevance and show how games were made in that era.

Other than seeing the progression of graphics and technology, there's no point reliving TLOU on PS3. It won't show an evolution in game design.

Long story short, remakes and reimaginings are not quite the same thing, and there's a place for 1 to 1 remakes because later games aren't made with fixed cameras and aerial views and as 2D side scrolling RPGs. Certain game designs have died out due to cinematic and technological advances.

no 3d map no buy! period! :D

Sonic1881856d ago

The original psvr would have kept the 3D map. Oh well

Lionsguard855d ago

Oh man, a Deadspace PSVR2? I would be extremely disappointed if this doesn't happen...

EA Cut Dead Space's Marketing Budget to Pour Into Mirror's Edge Due to Mock Review Scores

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.

Knightofelemia143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.

goken143d ago

Agreed. DS was great. But DS2 was even better. Would love to see a DS2 remake, though I would love to see a DS4 even more.
The problem with EA is they make easy $ from the slight changes to their sports titles like football FC games (whatever it’s called nowadays). People just lap that sh1t up.
Comparatively, games like DS which don’t sell 10s of millions, can’t sell them team player add ons and all the like, would seem a hassle to make and unappealing comparatively. Especially when you consider that most EA non sport titles haven’t actually performed well recently.

Dark Souls 2, Darksiders 2, Dead Space 2, Death Stranding 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

chicken_in_the_corn142d ago

The Dead space remake was so good. Better than the original. Shame they won't remake 2.

__y2jb142d ago

I loved the original dead space but the remake I just found boring. Game design has moved on and the game really showed its age, just small area encounters repeated again and again.

I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Inverno142d ago

Then they went on to screw both games over.

UnbreakableAlex142d ago

I'd rather see a new and great Mirrors Edge than another boring Dead Space.

EA Japan Exec Criticises Japanese Ratings Board

An executive of Electronic Arts Japan has criticised the Japanese video game ratings board for allowing upcoming action game Stellar Blade to be released uncensored while EA's own Dead Space was banned in the country.

CrimsonWing69390d ago

He’s got a point. If a game is M-Rated, which is the equivalent of an R rating, I don’t get why you need to censor anything. The rating is the indicator of the content and the age appropriate. If it’s appropriate for adults… why treat them like children? 🤷‍♂️

Eonjay390d ago (Edited 390d ago )

This is about gore... not about anything sexual. And specifically I think it is about the realistic depiction of gore. Unfortunately I don't know the nuance of the CERO board or how it is relevant their specific culture (as a prohibition on gore may transcend age) so I hesitate to make a statement. Can anyone else provide insight to what kind of gore is considered unacceptable?

CrimsonWing69390d ago (Edited 390d ago )

Yea, I know this is about gore, but thanks for pointing that out.

My point still stands, if a game is essentially rated for a mature audience then why censor for them as if they’re too young to view it? Makes no sense.

To answer your question: Decapitation, dismemberment, like… anything gore. They have been censoring that since CERO was established. Look up RE4 chainsaw decapitation or any MK games that made it there.

Cacabunga390d ago

EA Japan? Wtf never heard of that

ZwVw390d ago

Yet, the Oneechanbara series (y'know, the game with half-naked samurai females slicing up zombies to bloody pieces) get released in Japan uncensored.

The CERO ratings board is an equilibrium.

Smellsforfree389d ago

This confuses me since I've seen so many gory Japanese movies and anime. For example, Battle Royale.

gold_drake390d ago

definitely has a point.

but .. its japan. are we really surprised?

VersusDMC390d ago

I don't know if the EA executive is going off the one close up of an arm being cut off in the demo. Maybe it's uncensored because it's the arm of a cyborg or it doesn't happen that often (didn’t see EVE dismemberment when killed in the demo) .

In the states there's a certain amount of swear words allowed to a PG13 movie before it is deemed R. So maybe it's the same in Japan for gore?

Eonjay390d ago

Yes I think you may be on to something. The violence is gory but I wouldn't call it gruesome.

Retroman390d ago

Ea Japan please make Knack 3
in the future

Eonjay390d ago (Edited 390d ago )

Does EA Japan actually make games at all? Or are they just a regional publisher?

Retroman389d ago

I'm sorry Japan Studio made Knack
