Death Stranding 2: Fragile to Play a "Significant Role", Hideo Kojima Reveals

Death Stranding 2's Fragile is set to play a "significant role" in Death Stranding 2 alongside actresses Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna.

A proper strong female character. Take notes, western feminists.

crazyCoconuts485d ago

I just yesterday watched the latest Bond movie and recognized her from Death Stranding. I don't know what you mean about the feminist comment but she's definitely a looker

DrDoomer485d ago (Edited 485d ago )

I mean you can write a strong female character without her being just like a dude (eg naughty dog)

TricksterArrow485d ago

I fail to see how any of the women in The Last of Us are written as dudes. But otherwise, I agree Fragile is actually quite tough.

CorndogBurglar485d ago

I really wish Kojima would have done something different than this.

LostinthePANIC485d ago

He is. He's working on Overdose as well.

Syphos485d ago

He's working on multiple projects and also he is doing what he wants to do, you'd want him to do what he wants to do or cater to certain individuals making something he doesn't want to himself (like some of the MGS games, he wanted MGS3 to be the last but ofc business pushed him to work on the next one) I for one am happy for the man that he can finally just pick what he wants to work on instead of being pushed into a project he doesn't nearly feel the same amount of passion for to work on

Can't win them all fella, I personally loved DS so looking FWD to it 😀

Aloymetal485d ago

That's 2 of us plus I'm a huge fan of the Decima Engine (wink wink) so I can't wait what Kojima does once again with the engine and his super talented team.

Orchard485d ago

Tbh I’d be more interested to see what KJ could do with UE5. UE is miles ahead of any other engine at this point.

They have confirmed they’re using some UE tech on DS2 though - and I suspect we’ll see KJP standardize upon it as they start making more non-Sony exclusives - starting with Overdose, since that game obviously won’t be Decima based.

Flawlessmic485d ago

@orchard

Would prefer to see bespoke engines, ue starts of great cause it's great for devs who don't have the time or money to build there own but as the gen goes on there are always better ones, ue engine rarely remains best in class, it's just easier for devs to use it.

Sony's devs creating there own engines since ps3 have always trumped anything ue does, don't see why this gen will be any different.

Besides I don't want games to all look the same, there enough games coming on ue, provided devs are using upgraded engines then I'd love to see different ones being used

Orchard485d ago (Edited 485d ago )

@Flawess UE is miles ahead with v5 and it’ll likely stay ahead this gen.

Game studios cannot dedicate as many resources to their engine as Epic does nowadays, since for them the engine is just a means to ship their game, while for Epic it’s a product they sell.

Systems like Nanite, lumen etc are just insane, even Fortnite looks great with them.

DS2 is already confirmed to be using MetaHumans from UE.

KJP will likely standardize upon UE - if they’re going to start making games for multiple devices, UE makes sense - plus betting the house on Sony/Decima is risky.

Realistically you’ll see many studios start to drop proprietary engines and move to UE this gen for the reasons listed above - some already have like CDPR - Sony know it too, hence the big investments in Epic and UE recently.

@Flawlessmic

Yeah, Sony’s engines easily remain atop the graphics and technology front. That said, I’m excited to see what current gen only games truly take advantage of UE5.

Currently replaying DS the directors cut, can't wait for the second to see how he chnages up the ganeplay which going off what's been said so far it seems like a sure thing!!

Thundercat77485d ago

I liked DS1 but is not a game I would revisit. I didn't even wanted or expected a sequel.

I hope part 2 has a different gameplay. Getting back to this game to do the same stuff is not going to be attractive to me.

EvertonFC485d ago (Edited 485d ago )

"DS is not a game ?"
1) you control a character
2) a deep immersive story
3) guns (shooting)
4) enemy bosses
5) inventory management
6) side quests
Etc etc

Pretty sure it's a game fella 🤣😂

sinspirit485d ago

This is how you cherry pick words to take them out of context. Include his whole sentence. He said it is not a game he would revisit. He didn't say it is not a game

jznrpg485d ago

Well we are all different no big deal really . I won’t play DS1 soon but I will replay it again someday for sure

TheEnigma313485d ago

I loved the first game. So relaxing after a long day at work.

Death Straining is an absolutely beautiful game. I just didn't like the gameplay.

DarXyde40d ago

I really enjoyed the original.
What's great about Kojima is that he consistently learns how to improve upon his prior work. People really only disagree on the narrative quality between titles, but in terms of gameplay? Kohima is an absolute beast at one-upping himself. If we look at Metal Gear Solid, it's really hard to dispute V has the best gameplay, but the worst narrative (in my opinion). Generally, your favorite MGS game comes down to balance between narrative and gameplay—objective and subjective elements. Death Stranding was something new and the gameplay was really his first crack at it. I have great faith that we're going to get that thoughtful introspection that leads to magic.

So even if you didn't like the gameplay of the first, I think you'll be warmer on the sequel. Will it be enough? Everyone's different, but this one seems to be more offensive.
