Downloads of pirated Windows 7 beta candidate soar

December 30, 2008 (Computerworld) Downloads of a new build of Microsoft Corp.'s upcoming Windows 7 operating system have soared in the past two days, with thousands of systems now pulling pirated copies from BitTorrent sites.

Searches today on the Pirate Bay BitTorrent site, for example, returned multiple listings of Windows 7 Build 7000, which Microsoft identifies as a beta candidate in the file name. The torrent is a disk image of the 32-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate; a 64-bit version is not yet available.

so far.. it comes VERY close to XP in terms of speed, if not faster in some areas..
I call it the Vista that works :)

if you use your brain you would know people are downloading it now to see how bad it is rather than pay for the retail version and get surprised.

The specs have been rumored to be the same as Vista, with the exception of 1 GB RAM minimum. It should only take half the RAM that Vista takes. Otherwise, it will be just as slow, right?

I'm been using windows 7 for 4 days in a row and let me tell you,I think is awesome,I have 2 laptop with vista and vista sucks real bad,this windows 7 works great,faster,better,nice look,user friendly and the best in 4 days I don't have a single freeze or problems,just IE8 is not compatible with all,but use the same drivers,software and programs from vista!!

Is most software compatible with it like firefox? Also, do pc games work on it as well? I'm thinking about putting it on my pc that I am going to build in a couple of weeks for a temporary OS.

So far it is great. Everything runs really smooth. I am running iTunes, Adobe Photoshop, and Firefox. So far so good. Everything runs super fast. Nero has some issues, but Nero always does with a new OS. This is by far the fastest Windows yet. I have been using Windows since 98 and this Windows is really cool. Everything that Vista, well for that matter, Windows, was supposed to be. Imagine XP and Vista as one and that is what you have. I am also playing Fallout 3 and GTA4 on my system and I am having less probs than I did on Windows XP and Vista. Other than that I find it strange that using a Beta is considered a pirate thing now!

Thank god i switched to Mac a few months ago. Seriously, im infinately happy that i don't need to constantly buy new Operating Systems before the one i have is even in a working condition. I hate the way Microsoft thinks... "Well, if its broke... Make a whole new one and charge the same price, then discontinue any support for the previous model".

They did it with the X-Box, and now they're doing it with Windows... and you people are all falling for it. I don't care if you don't like macs - i love them, but that's my personal choice. I have XP on my Mac, i hate the interface, but its fine for games.

Ugh... Whatever, go throw more money at Microsoft...

Not everyone can afford a Mac I though the hole I'M A PC advert sort of told Mac users to stop being snobs. And the OS comment is completely insane Mac's have so many new OS's its unreal Microsoft on average changes there OS every 3-4 years. Mac changes here OS every 3-4 months.

And out with the old in with the new is a good or bad thing completely depending on someone's point of view. Some people pre fair to fix something Broken others pre fair to get something new.

Computers are for everyone they bring the world together. Mac are for people (not all the time) who love to believe there better then everyone. Of course Mac's have there use there unbeaten when it comes to graphic design. But really if Mac are better then computers explain there current market share there just not and that's all there is to it.

And if you think Microsoft giving up on the xbox and switching to the 360 is a mistake. That shows your complete lack of business sense.

You get the best of both worlds, running XP in virtual mode rocks, playing Windows games in Leopard is the bomb. That's what sold me.

I can't even run Windows XP on my Dell XPS it totally blue screens every time I try to install the disc. Am stuck with windows VistaHP although I have to say apart from being slightly slower then XP I haven't had any problems what so ever with it.

Its also alot better on the eyes then Windows XP with a few additions that make life so much easy. I Wouldn't say XP is better then Vista but I would say it ain't worth upgrading to Vista if you already have XP.

If I am already running Windows XP will I be able to run Windows 7 and XP or will I have to switch to Windows 7 permantly if I download it?

and now I just downloaded windows 7 and it out performs vista by miles everything loads twice as fist and IE8 workes great also.
