God of War Ragnarok is Getting New Game Plus in 2023

Santa Monica Studio announced that a New Game Plus mode will come to God of War Ragnarok in Spring 2023.

Orchard865d ago

NG+ will be a nice addition, and will extend the legs this game has.

Looking forward to it.

SonyStyled865d ago

I think you’re getting disagrees because very few people believe you played the game at all. I can’t blame them either Orchard. I would also doubt you did too. Sure you’re looking forward to “it”, but few would believe you played it. I’m looking forward to NG+ too, but I haven’t played the new one yet either, or finished 2018 fully. It’s there if I play it.

Apparently it’s a pretty good game

Downvoting based on the person instead of what someone states is just childish.

Thundercat77865d ago

That's nice as I would like to play a second time with a different Stat build. I haven't finished the game yet but what an amazing ride. Truly a master piece.

SullysCigar864d ago

Same here. Special games should always get New Game Plus mode, because often when you complete it you just crave more!

neutralgamer1992865d ago

I just finished it 2 nights ago and maybe it's just me but the last 20% of the game was a huge letdown and it felt like content was either cut or rushed

I am a OG GOW fan and honestly I think 2018 GOW was much more focused and better when it comes to story

First GOW was special but IMO the 2 games where Cory barlog led (GOW-2 AND GOW 2018() are the best games in the series

Also with the amount of lose ends they should make few big DLC expansions. It felt like in Mass effect 3 we were preparing and then all of a sudden the ending really did not matter and God of War Ragnarok pretty much gave the same feeling towards the end. Why was it so rushed

Knushwood Butt865d ago

If you mean you beat the story then stick around for 100% completion because there's a lot of additional lore, information, and surprises to be found.

neutralgamer1992865d ago

I did all post story content and side missions too. It's an excellent games no doubt but maybe I was expecting more. I think this conversation could be had once more games have played it so that spiders aren't an issue

Cory barlog is just special IMO and can't wait to see where he takes kratos next

Knushwood Butt864d ago

OK, fair enough. I personally loved playing through the endgame stuff, and was pretty amazed how much additional stuff they added.

Inverno865d ago

That's because instead of fleshing the story of Ragnarok through out 3 games they rushed to end it in 2. More so disappointing after you read through just how much more interesting Ragnarok is compared to what they wrote for this game.

neutralgamer1992865d ago

People just dislike if anyone brings up something negative about their games. But TBH I think a trilogy would have done the game more justice

Ragnarok was built up as this big things yet for all the preparation a log of that stuff was happening in the background instead of playing through it or witnessing it

This series is so big that Sony should have built 2 separate teams who are working on 2 games at once. This way there is not a wait in between of 4-5 years

Blaze929864d ago

2018's GOW was definitely more focused. The fact they have to wait until Spring for a feature that should've been there at launch is interesting and leads us to believe this was rushed.

Been playing GOW since the 1st title on PS2 and I fully agree. I beat the game, no intentions of playing this a 2nd time.

Maybe if DLC comes but I heard they said there are no plans

neutralgamer1992864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

No DLC planned which is a missed opportunity in my opinion. About the new game plus feature I kind of agree. Could it be that all those delayed rumors were true but Sony didn't want the blowback so they just released the game without another 6-9 months delay?

There are few characters who can get their own mini stories and it would take 12-18 months to finish those DLC expansions

Levii_92864d ago

Yeah the finale was a disappointment to me too you are not the only one, this game wasn’t hype at all for a supposed last chapter in the Norse saga in fact this game is kinda of anti hype. Hey remember God of War 3 everyone ? And also Ironwood was one of the worst sections i’ve ever played in a video game and i’ve finished Last of us part 2.

Knushwood Butt864d ago

Ironwood was the only part in the game where I felt it dragged, and I couldn't wait to get out of that sectionalism to get on with doing other things. It looked phenomenal though.

neutralgamer1992864d ago

Loki gameplay is very basic and for the amount of playtime he gets I believe his gameplay should have been deeper and more satisfying

Knushwood Butt863d ago

I felt he was a bit OP to be honest.

It might come out around the same time as Horizon Forbidden West DLC

Cool, just what I wanted to hear.

well... its not quite what I was expecting but still nice they honor the spartan.

VenomUK51d ago

What an absolute half-hearted and shoddy way for Sony to commemorate the epic God of War series. A few alternative skins and the option to buy t-shirts or vinyl. It would have been better to not have any celebration. Abysmal.

No offense Sony… but nobody is playing God of war ragnarok in 2025…

andy8551d ago

Every month in 2025 God of War Ragnarok has had more steam users than Starfield.

Inverno51d ago

Bruv I'm pretty there are more people playing literally anything BUT Starfield.

Profchaos51d ago

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if there was more people playing bubsy 3d than starfield

Profchaos51d ago

Yeah no one at all especially when it just became available to the millions of PS plus subscribers

PanicMechanic51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Maybe it’s because I sold my Ps5 last year and built a new PC. But ragnarok I finished in 2022 when it released. Don’t have any motivation to replay.

Profchaos51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

It would have been nice to have a PS plus drop of the ps2 original though I get that

Cacabunga51d ago

I actually installed it again today to try the latest roguelite DLC. Costumes is a nice addition but def expected something else.

Killer2020UK51d ago

Mate, I only started playing the previous one. It holds up unbelievably well considering it was a PS4 release

Chard51d ago

Not everybody buys and plays games during the launch window

BISHOP-BRASIL51d ago

I just finished it last week. You don't speak for everyone.

Damn Sony
You keep on remastering recent games and yet choose not to for a franchise that's celebrating it's 20 years?
I'm sure a lot of old and new fans would appreciate being able to play the entire saga using their current gen consoles.

Shane Kim51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Sure but that would require to actually remaster. Not selling the same game from last gen in a new box and call it remaster.

Profchaos51d ago

I admit I got a bit swept up in thinking we would get a PS classics drop of the first game on PS plus not a remaster or anything just running under the new ps2 emulator id be.halpy with that or the PSP games that deserve more praise really

Playstation writes: "Starting with tomorrow’s release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC, we’re working to add more benefits to playing with an account for PlayStation Network. The Last of Us Part II Remastered (coming April 3, 2025), in addition to God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, will all soon be adding in-game content unlocks for PlayStation Network account users.

An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC. Players who still opt to sign into a PlayStation Network account will also enjoy added benefits like trophies and friend management."
