PS5 being easier to find, especially the GoW bundle is really helping GoW stay at the top of the charts across the world. Its even holding its own against COD and FIFA.

Can’t say I’m surprised about NFS Unbound. I’m having fun with it and it’s the best NFS in years - but EA seem to be doing zero advertising of it.

jznrpg868d ago

God of War sold well regardless of the bundle but people without a PS5 will buy the bundle of course . If there was no bundle I’d bet GoW would be many peoples first PS5 game anyways .

Orchard868d ago

Definitely. The bundle being easily available is helping drive console sales for sure.

It almost feels like they’re pivoting their supply towards bundles over standalone, looking at the availability of the GoW and COD bundles.

Hofstaderman867d ago

And people were saying GOW would not move consoles…

Flawlessmic868d ago

People buying snapping up a brillant console the moment they can and an amazing game, your right not a surprise at all!

Orchard868d ago

Yep, 100% unsurprised. It’s good that we seem to be through the supply issues - for tech all up.

I still have PTSD from trying to get a graphics card during the pandemic.

LucasRuinedChildhood868d ago (Edited 868d ago )

The 3 main PS5 bundles available are Ragnorok, FIFA 23 and Modern Warfare 2.
https://direct.playstation....

There's 2 FIFA 23 bundles, and they're very popular.
https://www.smythstoys.com/...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp...

They bundle in the games people want, you know. Ragnorok is the fastest selling PS exclusive ever - people wanting to play it is what's keeping it at the top of the charts. PS exclusives (particularly Miles Morales) always climb the charts whenever new stock comes in, regardless of bundles.

When Starfield sells really well, rest assured, no one is here is going to obsess over bundles.

Outside_ofthe_Box868d ago

Are you suggesting that GoW wouldn't stay at the top of charts without the bundle or that the bundle is the main reason it's at the top?

Orchard868d ago (Edited 868d ago )

Where did I say that it wouldn’t sell well? It is selling well.

The positioning in the chart and its movement is tied to the availability of consoles. The article says it too if you took the time to read it.

Is that a surprise though? Why would you buy a game for a console you don’t have?

Outside_ofthe_Box867d ago

I never said you said it wouldn't sell well. Was talking about GoW being at the top of the charts vs CoD and Fifa and you saying bundles are the reason why.

Orchard867d ago

@Outside "The action adventure game jumped two places to No.1 thanks to the arrival of more PS5 stock at UK retail. The game also features in a PS5 hardware bundle."

The article said it, not me.

Outside_ofthe_Box867d ago

Article is saying that the game is featured in a bundle not that that's the reason why it jumped two spots. It's saying that Sony being able to keep PS5 in stock is the reason. CoD also had a bundle as well.

Of course.

When a company invests in their own developers, when they invest in game engines to meet the need, invests in high quality game releases that get nominated for awards, when a company is willing to allow their developers to take a risk and change their own game to keep it fresh...

This is the result. Market Leader Theory 101.

Sonic1881868d ago

They don't have to buy publisher's either

Flawlessmic868d ago

Who'd have thought hard work and investing in your studios over a long period of time actually pays off.

Eonjay868d ago

People out there trying to say that buying the competition is competing.

Flawlessmic868d ago

@enojay

And those same people then demanding that the opposers to that deal should make there own fps series cause it's so easy to make games, yet rather than do that themselves there are spending 70 bill lolll

Funny how one company is expected to make there games and the other is can just buy up publishers.

Makes you scratch your head doesn't it

ApocalypseShadow868d ago

Yup.

What's really interesting is that you can place Nintendo or Sony as the company, and come up with the same result for my above comment.

Orchard868d ago

That awkward moment when you realize that most of Sonys studios are the result of acquisitions…

mkis007867d ago

Orchard

He said publishers not developers. Sony has yet to buy a publisher. Ms seems content to be in the conversation but not actually contribute anything to it. It's sad, because if MS and xbox, with all its money and access, invested the way Sony did in the people behind the developers, the industry could have do many more talented dev teams.

Orchard868d ago (Edited 868d ago )

You’re right about investing in studios, but wrong about investing in engines.

You don’t need to invest in a custom engine to make a good game. The majority of studios don’t do this.

Also realistically, we’re going to see studios standardize more and more on UE. Including Sony - maintaining an engine has astronomical costs and realistically, Epic has more manpower they can put on it (mainly thanks to fortnite dollars) and their tech is miles ahead of any other engine at this point.

Sony knows the industry is going in that direction too, hence their investments in Epic.

Flawlessmic868d ago (Edited 868d ago )

@orchard you love to play on technicalities.

Remind me what all of Sony's studios were before Sony acquired them? and the massive massive ips they took with them that previously sold on multiple platforms by the millions for years??

Every massive ip Sony has has been built under them, and not prior to acquisition.

Sony took regular studios that 95% had been working them exclusively anyway and has supported them before buying them and turned majority of them into the world beaters they are today.

But you know this already, like I said you love to play on technicalities.

What Sony has done and Ms is doing are different things, not to mention ms now has more studios than Sony so why do they need like 14 more, they have enough to compete fairly without having to buy there way to the top.

Go home orchard, literally everyone is tired of your games, aren't you supposed to be old after aswell? Thought ud have better things to do than troll everyday, atleast play elder statemen and try contribute in a meaningful fashion.

Orchard868d ago (Edited 868d ago )

@Flawless What were the studios prior to acquisition? They were independent studios.

“Every massive ip Sony has has been built under them, and not prior to acquisition.”

Destiny says hi. One of the top 5 played games on both consoles.

It doesn’t matter anyway. Acquisitions are a completely normal part of this industry.

Sony has done tens of them, Microsoft has done tens of them. Both will make tens more of them.

Similarly, the majority of Sony studios are acquisitions as are the majority of Microsoft studios.

The only one who’s arguably “cleaner” in that sense is Nintendo.

Flawlessmic868d ago (Edited 868d ago )

@orchard

No one has issues with most acquisitions like Ms ones before zenimax and acti, that was fine they aren't robbing millions of gamers or money hitting there way to the top.

They bought talented studios that needed help and dont have world wide renowned ips that millions loved.

What they are doing now is different.

See i said 95% love that u picked out that 5% being bungie, but can't find anything else cause there isn't anything else.

Not to mention bumgie themselves have explicitly came out and said all there games will be available to whatever platforms they want and Sony has no say.

So until proven otherwise even your 5% is wrong.

Was expecting you to list all the ways I was wrong but ur just a old man troll with nothing better to do.

badz149867d ago

"You don’t need to invest in a custom engine to make a good game. The majority of studios don’t do this."

makes you wonder why a trillion company is not doing either of those and instead trying to buy out the biggest publisher there is through the most expensive acquisition in the history of gaming.

EA, Epic, Take2, and even SONY and Nintendo combined are still smaller than MS but all these companies invest in making their own engines.

so...is "buying" the only thing MS is good at?

Crows90867d ago

@badz

Well if you take a look at what bill gates does...pretty much everything is buying or backing...in literally everything. Not surprising that Microsoft would resort to monopolistic practices in the gaming industry as well. It wasn't enough to take away some of the biggest western IP ..now they want the biggest IP.

darkrider867d ago (Edited 867d ago )

Destiny is multiplats.. Worst example ever of a game and of studio. Bungie was the best, by light years, of Microsoft. But by being force to milked beyond belief a single franchise they left. Imagined if destiny was also Microsoft exclusive... But Phil Spencer is so smart....

"Orchard1h ago

Nah only awkward thing is fruity idiots trying so hard. All the franchises were made AFTER the studios were purchased and given freedom to make games they want. Whereas some just buy pre-existing franchises. Only and idiot thinks that's the same.

What franchises did Xbox build up from scratch after the studios were purchased by say Xbox?! Oh right NONE.

thesoftware730867d ago

Yup, Nintendo got it right!!

lol.

Chevalier867d ago

Nintendo deserves ton of props. Building up Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Smash, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and also making new franchises like Splatoon and Xenoblade into huge franchises too.

Honestly between Nintendo and Playstation constantly making so many great series/franchises I think we're spoiled by how regular they release new games. I never run out of games between PS4/PS5 and Switch. Buy games monthly from these two.

The game is amazing. Deserves to do this well.

Snookies12868d ago (Edited 868d ago )

Awesome stuff! I am sad to say I still haven't beaten GoW 2018, just yet. But was having a blast with it. Need to start fresh on it and just knock it out soon here. As far as PS5's go though... Now that they're starting to become easily available. It's taken so long I may just end up holding off for a potential Pro or Slim model. It's a wonderful powerhouse of a system, but good lord it takes up so much space haha.

What an absolute half-hearted and shoddy way for Sony to commemorate the epic God of War series. A few alternative skins and the option to buy t-shirts or vinyl. It would have been better to not have any celebration. Abysmal.

No offense Sony… but nobody is playing God of war ragnarok in 2025…

andy8543d ago

Every month in 2025 God of War Ragnarok has had more steam users than Starfield.

Inverno43d ago

Bruv I'm pretty there are more people playing literally anything BUT Starfield.

Profchaos43d ago

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if there was more people playing bubsy 3d than starfield

Profchaos43d ago

Yeah no one at all especially when it just became available to the millions of PS plus subscribers

PanicMechanic43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

Maybe it’s because I sold my Ps5 last year and built a new PC. But ragnarok I finished in 2022 when it released. Don’t have any motivation to replay.

Damn Sony
You keep on remastering recent games and yet choose not to for a franchise that's celebrating it's 20 years?
I'm sure a lot of old and new fans would appreciate being able to play the entire saga using their current gen consoles.

Shane Kim43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

Sure but that would require to actually remaster. Not selling the same game from last gen in a new box and call it remaster.

Profchaos43d ago

I admit I got a bit swept up in thinking we would get a PS classics drop of the first game on PS plus not a remaster or anything just running under the new ps2 emulator id be.halpy with that or the PSP games that deserve more praise really

Need for Speed will return in “new and interesting ways,” says EA

Support for Need for Speed Unbound has ended as Criterion focuses on the new Battlefield.

RaidenBlack83d ago

Plz no live service only NFS.
You already tried that with the reboot which was online only.

FinalFantasyFanatic82d ago

I can totally see them doing that again.

andy8583d ago

Just give me Underground 2 remastered

Fonsecap82d ago

Don't known if you're aware, but there is a modding team remastering the game in unreal engine 5, look for it it's looking good.

ApocalypseShadow83d ago

But no Burnout since you bought the competition to kill their game. And what's left of Criterion who stayed, were put to make your game need for speed. Don't care what ways it comes back. It's EA. No buy.

CosmicTurtle82d ago

They bought Criterion for their middleware engine Renderware I believe. But the studio was a bonus.

TheColbertinator83d ago

I enjoyed NFS Heat but they never built properly on that.
