NS and XS Sell Over 1.2M, PS5 Over 1M - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for Nov 20-26

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console with 1,298,185 units sold for the week ending November 26, 2022, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch has now sold an estimated 117.22 million units lifetime.

The Xbox Series X|S sold 1,206,483 units to bring their lifetime sales to 19.86 million units. The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 1,054,517 units to bring its lifetime sales to 27.54 million units.

1.2-1.3 million units in a week is kinda insane when we've been seeing 100-500k for the past year. Black Friday drives an insane amount of sales.

Also, Switch has finally taken the scalp of PS4 (despite being on the market for half the time). GameBoy next. Will it overtake the DS & PS2 to be #1? Possibly.

darthv72504d ago

Passing the GB should be easily by the end of the year, if not sooner. As for beating DS and PS2... I don't think so. I dont believe they got enough left in the tank to reach those numbers. Especially if they havent even had a price cut outside of the cheaper lite version. Keep in mind that both DS and PS2 had price cuts in the later years to help reach those numbers.

Orchard504d ago

I can see them getting to the #1 spot on one condition - they make a Switch Pro.

Otherwise I don't think it'll get there.

DarXyde504d ago (Edited 504d ago )

It can get to #1 for several reasons, but if we focus on the main the two:

1. There are more gamers today than in the PS2 era.

2. It is extremely common for households to have more than one Switch. I would personally like to see mean consoles per household, which I suspect for Switch is 2-3 on average. There could be some duplication (e.g., Switch Lite for travel and traditional/OLED for home) but other duplications due to failure rate/hardware issues, I expect, are low (unless you have a Lite and replaced a unit with joycon drift).

I think it could definitely get there, even without a Pro. It's a little irritating though. I like the Switch, but Nintendo has really gotten a big head from its success. Sadly, they're being rewarded for it and they will take it as validation of their practices. Games are great, but their fan base really needs to be more antagonistic when it's warranted.

yeahokwhatever503d ago

my house has 3 switches in it. I hate them all. Pokemon is good, but plays like a game that needs another year of development before its done.

yeahokwhatever501d ago

PS2's got down to what, 129$? The switch has a little ways to go in order to be cheap enough to catch the PS2. Though the fact that its a portable system and money is basically worthless right now means anything can happen.

Switch sells to portable and console owners. It has 2x the market to sell for.

septemberindecember504d ago

Anything to make yourself feel better, eh?

Orchard504d ago (Edited 504d ago )

Which means those consoles are half consoles? or the user engagement is less? Nope.

A sale is a sale.

CrimsonWing69504d ago (Edited 504d ago )

Does anyone strictly just stick to handheld and nothing else? I feel like Handheld consumers also own another platform like console or PC.

Asplundh504d ago

We know dude, stop taking it so personal. You act as if you have to notify people every sales article.

AndrewM504d ago (Edited 504d ago )

The point spinoff is trying to make is yes the numbers are super high, but since two markets were combined for it, try dividing it in half and see how impressive it is. Nintendo could of had a console selling really well AND a hand held selling insanely well, you know two markets, they combined that to 1 market..........how are you all impressed by this?

Lifexline504d ago (Edited 504d ago )

Yeah it’s crazy numbers for Xbox it shows it’s still in high demand but availability and pricing affect it. Imagine if it actually had games coming out for it how it would sell. Microsoft is messing up big time they have an opportunity to pass PlayStation but they need games for a game console lol. Which is why they need activision.

As for switch Nintendo consoles are always beats.

S2Killinit504d ago (Edited 504d ago )

Xbox are showing these types of numbers becaise of the insane deals on the xbox S for black friday which presumably was picked up by the casual/mom & pops who wanted to gift a console for Christmas.

Not taking anything away from them, but it should be at least mentioned if we are talking demand.

Orchard504d ago (Edited 504d ago )

@S2

If it's selling 1.2million in a week, there is obviously demand for it. Things that are not in demand, do not sell.

darthv72504d ago

It does have games coming out for it... what makes you think it doesnt?

Mr_Writer85504d ago

@orchid

S2 could be right, my dad, who isn't a big gamer picked up an S simply due to its price.

Any gamer would be going for the X.

We will see how the sales go next week, if they're still 1m+ then maybe there is a bigger demand.

If it drops off to 600k or less then that just proves that S2's theory is a solid one.

Vengeance1138504d ago

Nobody will ever touch the PS2, it was a different industry back then. Switch especially has nowhere near the legs to do that.

Asplundh504d ago

It will be close. The ps2 had a 13 year life cycle and the lasers crapping out of them after a few years definitely helped sales.

Vengeance1138504d ago

@Asplundh

Close?? Are you nuts, Switch in no shape or form will sell another 33M units.
NOT going to happen in this universe or the next. Be realistic.

Father__Merrin504d ago

saying switch pro is like switch 3 or switch 4. orig switch wont reach them numbers

Orchard504d ago

Since when were sales numbers 'base consoles only'? If that's true, then the PS4 probably sold around half of what is being counted since there will be a lot of PS4 slim and PS4 pro sales included in the current numbers.

ChasterMies504d ago

Questionable whether we should compare a home console to a handheld. Also questionable whether Nintendo Switch is a home console that can go mobile or a handheld with a nice dock. (The Switch Lite is 100% a handheld.) I also never forget how small these numbers are compared to smart phone and tablet sales.

Orchard504d ago

The top selling consoles lists includes handhelds and home consoles. A unit sold is a unit sold.

LucasRuinedChildhood504d ago (Edited 504d ago )

"despite being on the market for half the time"

The PS4 hasn't been on the market for twice as long as the Switch. It's only 3 years older (6 vs 9 years).

In general, I think you might be looking at this in a flawed way. It's not selling twice as fast as the PS4 did up to this point.

The PS4 achieved most of its sales in the first 6 years (the Switch is currently 6 years old), and then the sales plummeted after the PS5 was announced in 2019, and that's quite normal. It was similar for the XB1. I think PS4 sales were down ~60% in 2020 alone.

They have an existing fanbase, but in terms of console sales, PS4 and XB1 sales are a fraction of their prime years - they're pretty much dead. The Series S is way cheaper than the PS4 these days (it was only €210 for Black Friday which is cheaper than even the Switch Lite).

I think the Switch will finish in the 130-140m range if there's no Switch Pro. I think the next console might be more of a Switch 2 though with heavy cross gen support.

LucasRuinedChildhood504d ago

Correction to my comment: the next console will probably be like the "New 3DS".

There will be some games that are exclusive and take advantage of the hardware but it will technically still be counted as Switch sales.

Flawlessmic504d ago

Half of you sound like children arguing over sales lol

In saying that glad to see all 3 consoles are selling very well which is great, minus maybe Nintendo as I desperately want an upgrade on my switch, it is totally and utterly outdated compared to my ps5 and series x and for 2022!!

Give us a new goddam console Nintendo and some games that look and perform great!

Holy hell... that's crazy all across the board. and i just seen Switch has moved into 4th best selling platform with just over 1m to go before it can be 3rd. I feel that is where it will likely settle in at.

septemberindecember504d ago

Just like that, the Switch outsells the PS4. In another two weeks it will outsell the Gameboy. Then it has some distance before the DS and PS2, if it can manage it.

Good job Switch.

darthv72504d ago

...and it did it in less than 6 years. Pretty impressive for Nintendo. I think it will close out its lifetime somewhere in the 130-140m range.

septemberindecember504d ago

Probably over 130M. By the end of the year it'll be at 123M or so. At that point they just need 17M to get past that range. 17M for the rest of it's life should be a cakewalk

septemberindecember504d ago

Keep up those disagrees, people. You've been disagreeing with the inevitable for a long time.

yeahokwhatever503d ago (Edited 503d ago )

Nintendo has become an "and" company. Its not a nintendo OR a playstation/xbox. Its an xbox or playstation AND a switch. if it wasnt for a few of their core titles being exclusive, it wouldnt even exist. 0 people would choose a switch over a ps4 if the games were the same.

septemberindecember503d ago (Edited 503d ago )

So Nintendo is the only company that can sell based on exclusives (e.g.first party) alone? Got it

yeahokwhatever503d ago (Edited 503d ago )

well, yes. its worse online, its hilariously under-powered, the controllers are far less capable and comfortable, etc. You can sort of go on forever. there's nothing its better at when compared to a new phone + PS5/XBSX. Why would ANYONE want to play the switch version of a given game unless they have bowel problems and need to be on the toilet 5 hours a day. There are 3 switches in my house. They all have nintendo exclusives on them, and thats it. my kids WISH pokemon was on PS5 and PC, they tell me all the time.

septemberindecember502d ago

The fact is, the exclusives are good enough to buy the console. So that's a good thing that Nintendo has done. People didn't feel that way about the Wii U.

yeahokwhatever501d ago

the wiiU wasnt really portable in the same sense as the switch. the switch is a handheld-first console. another reason its a good companion (and) console. there is no DS this generation. nintendo consolidated their sales into one device. "So Nintendo is the only company that can sell based on exclusives (e.g.first party) alone? Got it" No. I said they only exist because they have a few exclusives. Sony does very well with their first party AND third party. 3rd party games are often best on PS5. Read an article where there's a switch version of the game against the PS5 version of the game. Nobody would ever pick the switch version. im not saying nintendo sucks, I'm saying their hardware does.

damn, those numbers across the board are insane.

Xbox also did well during Black Friday.

N4G of course didn't bother to mention it

It's no surprise given the Series S/X were on sale for £189 and £430 respectively. That stock didn't last much.

With how everything is getting more expensive (things are really bad in the U.K.), Game Pass is a great deal for entertainment.

randomvoice504d ago

There were multiple articles so not sure if you were living under a rock. They were selling the XSS for like 200 with deep discounts and had it in stock everywhere. Of course it was gonna outsell its competitor which was literally selling for 200$+. All 3 pulled in some good numbers.

Lightning77503d ago (Edited 503d ago )

On N4G? No there wasn't. They took down the North america BF success. Never bothered to post the UK BF sales. The one I posted was for UK BF btw. It's everywhere outside of N4G, because of course it is.

It's too much good xbox news N4G can't handle all that good Xbox news.

Straight for the horse mouth, "I already found it difficult to get invested in the characters and the story Stellar Blade is trying to tell when it’s selling itself the way it is."

The writer was already writing it off before playing it. Hence the score. It's so blatant it's hard to ignore. This is the very definition of bias.

The review praises gameplay and sound...so pretty much 80% of the game.

So the writer actually wanted to give an 8/10 but because of the imposed controversy they were forced to give it lower.

You don't give a game, which you confess having tons of fun with, a 6/10

ravens5242m ago

Expected from some reviews unfortunately. We all knew they'd use that to take points.

RonnySins5m ago

What a joke of a review! I’d choose this game over movie-like games with garbage stories such as Spider-man 2 and TloU 2 any day.
