Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion review - hardcore fan service - Metro

An inspired piece of Final Fantasy 7 fan service, and a very good remaster, but as a standalone game the story and gameplay has very little value.

masterfox506d ago (Edited 506d ago )

"and without that level of interest the gameplay is exposed as a shallow, repetitive husk. And that is one aspect of the game that has not changed at all in the last 15 years"

has not changed at all in the last 15 years?, so is good then, didn't have a chance to play the original and I always wanted that and with a facelift now ;), seriously this reviewers of today lots of them can't be trust anymore, Callisto Protocol some reviews "the game is too hard" some give a 4 others a 9, this game FF Reunion this one gives it a 4 others give them a 8 a 9, hell look at GOW Ragnarok, some give them 7 others complaining that game is too much?, so giving them content to the gamer is a bad thing now?, so hell with this incompetent reviewers, I will trust my eyeballs and my own criteria :D

Shit I like that it hasnt changed I wish I could say the same about ff7 remake, Just wanted better graphics for that.

Rebel_Scum504d ago

Why would you expect review scores to be consistent across every review site?

nommers504d ago

Metro clearly never played the og crisis core. It has several gameplay changes. You can interrupt special attacks before they're unleashed, the basic attack combo in the game feels different and more weighty, you can store limit breaks without using them right away, and there's a back up dodge option.

_Decadent_Descent504d ago

It's almost as if different games were reviewed on different sites by different people with different opinions. Weird huh?

It's a polished 15 year old PSP game to allow more people to learn more of the story revolving around Zack and events within the FF7 universe that will help you better understand what happens in the larger more ambitious FF7 remake titles to come, which are writing their own story separating it away from the original, where you really want to learn more about Zack.... maybe even Genesis (secret ending in the original CC might be somewhat relevant in any deviations in the main story now?), who knows! - So with that said, it's a highly rated psp game, its a bit corny and has many dated elements.... with that knowledge, just enjoy it for what it is while waiting for rebirth lol

Hofstaderman504d ago

What were they expecting, a brand new story and mechanics? It’s a remaster. If they were looking for something different they shouldn’t have bothered to review this game.

jznrpg504d ago

This score is lame imo . They never said they were changing combat and they knock the score down for not changing it .

nommers504d ago

Yet they give pokemon an 8 despite being the least gameplay evolving franchise in existence.

shinoff2183504d ago

Thing is its not suppose to be a standalone game. Author is a jackas

Is it a troll comparison? A PSP game vs PS5?

RaidenBlack68d ago

How well the crisis core still stacks up to the next gen Remake ~ that's the point of the remake
And as Digital Foundry pointed out after playing the demo, the Rebirth has flaws and is not much an upgrade from Integrade and still has texture problems

RaidenBlack68d ago

* that's the point of the comparison

Babadook767d ago (Edited 67d ago )

Remake had the same type of texture flaws (rare ones at that) as this game and I disagree with DF in both cases. Rebirth is easily the best example of RPG graphics in 2024 just like Remake was in 2020.

Snookies1267d ago

Rebirth not looking much better than Integrade is perfectly acceptable. Considering it's now open world where the Remake was completely linear. Remake still looks amazing to this day, and Rebirth looks even better.

They did do an amazing job on Reunion though. Never thought I'd see the day we'd get a return of Crisis Core, lol.

fsfsxii67d ago

Digital foundry always nitpicks ps5 games, but will look the other way when it comes to literally anything nintendo. They could put out a 240p game and DF would still praise it.

it's Crisis Core Reunion on PS5. I don't think anyone is expecting the graphics to be compared, but the design and to compare the same scenes between the two games.

Knightofelemia68d ago

A cleaned up PSP version vs a game built for the PS5 really? I can see the Tomb Raider trilogy remaster vs the PS1 versions. But using this is like night and day.

northpaws68d ago

Of course rebirth looks much better... but I am surprised how good crisis core reunion looks too, I have never played that one.

RaidenBlack68d ago

Thats the point of the comparison

Soy67d ago

IMO shows how great of a job they did with Crisis Core to bring it up to the Remake's standards/style.

MeteorPanda67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

I really enjoyed Crisis core remaster - the only thing l hated was the easy to miss side quests. like legit if you didnt run out and talk to a woman on your first HQ visit you missed on the optional final boss cause no 100%. like cmon. let us replay chapters to get the content.

Which is why lm glad they took that feedback and confirmed that nothings missable or timelocked in rebirth.
