From IGN: "Check out the first 18 minutes of Dead Space running in 4K 60 on PC, and stick with IGN all month to find out more about the Dead Space remake."
Callisto is better than a lot of reviewers are giving it credit for imo. People are just mad it’s not actually just a Dead Space clone. It’s heavily inspired by Dead Space for sure but it’s a simpler, more straight forward, more action oriented game that moves you thru the world and big set pieces in a fairly linear way. It’s almost like Call of Duty meets Dead Space. It’s not a perfect game by any means and could fine tune the balance and variety, but I’ve been playing it and having a lot of fun with it. It’s actually kinda nice to play a game that isn’t bloated by extraneous systems. This may sound sacrilegious, but after watching the new Dead Space remake video recently posted by IGN (which looks awesome) Callisto actually looks better graphically and the acting is better too. I’ll still buy the new dead space for sure, but the games aside from some similarities aren’t the same. You could even chalk some of the similarities simply to the fact that they were both created by the same guy.
Dead Space was amazing when it was released and it looks like they took that excellent foundation and brought it up to modern standards. At the least, after all these years, most of the bugs and gameplay issues should be resolved.
It is a good game. Stop letting biased reviewers tell you what you can and can't like. It's had countless 7s and 8s. That makes it a good to great game.
Lol, so you are essentially letting other people decide for you if a game is good or not. I don't understand people who blindly stare at metascores. Sad.
“It is a good game. Stop letting biased reviewers tell you what you can and can't like.“
But why are they biased about this game? You’d think they’d want it to be good. Regardless, I may pick the game up since people on here seem to enjoy it.
Pretty much what I expected, looks nice but beat for beat the same intro with added VO and motion capture, played Dead Space 1-3 so many times I just can't justify the price tag for a 15 year old game I already know everything about.
I was really hoping for Collisto Protocol to be better than it ended up. EA did Visceral dirty, but it looks like it's the remake that's getting my money and the other down the road on a deep sale.
As a huge fan of the original game the first thing I notice is the lady at the start no longer has her curves and is also now announcing her sexual orientation (as if anyone cares). Yep it's definitely a 2023 remake.
I don't really enjoy survival horror all that much, but for some reason I loved this game so much I platinumed it when it got trophy support. Same reason I love Bioshock I think, The Ishimura is a character itself.
Too bad we won't ever get a proper sequel or reboot to Dead space. EA doesn't have the developer to create a new one since they shut down Visceral Games aka striking distance studios now
Only thing that I wish they would change is the way Isaac sort of rotates on the spot in a weird way when turning around. I'm sure it's for gameplay purposes but looks a bit jarring when the rest of the game is looking like a cg film and this just looks very gamey
Visually it's pleasing but seems to do three things I hate the most about many modern games:
1. The lack of feedback. In the original, those guys shot two necromorphs down, and you could feel the impact of bullets hitting their bodies. Here they emptied two entire clips in one and it's walking just fine like being hit by rubber bullets. That difference in feedback can also be observed when the elevator cuts through the necromorph chasing Issac. When Issac finally gets to use the Plasma Cutter, there's barely any kickback and the shot cuts through the necromorphs quietly and cleanly like hot knife through butter instead of the original's crazy kickback and shots' impact on necromophs both visually and audibly;
2. That awful soft gun sound effect associated with Frostbite and Unreal Engine 4 as well as the floaty movement/turn-on-the-spot; and
3. The incessant talking. They blabber much more than the original and it adds absolutely nothing of value.
Looking good 👀

Like what I see, A LOT😄
Can't wait for January 27th!
Man, I truly envy those who get to experience this survival horror masterpiece for the first time.. Looking FANTASTIC!
