1UP: Top 5 Worst Videogame Sidekicks

From Sam Gamgee to the Boy Wonder, the sidekick's always played an important role in literature, so it only makes sense that gamemakers worldwide would adapt this concept for their own purposes. When used properly, sidekicks serve any number of important functions: providing essential comic relief, injecting romantic tension into a story, or acting as an all-important foil to the protagonist. But more often than not, these second bananas are nothing more than extraneous baggage carried to and fro by the hapless heroes unlucky enough to be burdened with them. And if you still need to be convinced of their uselessness, the following five unwanted friends may prove why it's best to handle most world-saving adventures alone -- or at least with an at-will employment policy.
