It is the biggest boxed game launch of the year, with opening week sales up 4% compared with FIFA 23 (the previous biggest).

In fact, in terms of units, it is the second biggest Pokémon launch of all time, behind Pokémon Sun and Moon on the 3DS. Sun and Moon arrived during a period of huge interest in the series following the release of the smartphone game Pokémon Go (way back in 2016)"

Indeed, beating Elden Ring, GOW, FIFA and COD with the most low effort Pokemon game just goes to show quality doesn't matter.

the thing is, people don't accidentally buy pokemon games. They know what they are getting into. They either don't care or play it for different reasons than you might. Technical issues aside, apparently it's one of the better pokemon games to date.

One of the better is a stretch, considering that last several have been mediocre at best, and these games simply fixes most of the issues of the last few games, but have the absolute worst performance of any Pokemon game I could ever remember.

The reality is Gamefreak is just a low-tier developer working on now beyond low-tier hardware, and this is the result you get, nearly constant framerate issues throughout the "open-world" ~20 - 30~ fps, frame pacing issues, etc... Which is a shame considering Nintendo and Gamefreak have done the bare minimum (Nintendo with their hardware the last 3 generations / GameFreak since the start of the Switch generation), yet still charge premiums while fans get paid dust.

@ABizzel1 - I'm merely going by what plenty of articles have said. Arceus was a nice welcome change to the traiditional Pokemon games and one of my favorite of recent times. To each their own though.

And yes, Gamefreak are not equipped to deliver on projects more ambitious than what they were used to with the DS. Maybe that will change in time, who knows. It's frustrating when you see some 3rd party devs getting games like Doom or The Witcher running somewhat admirably and then a game like this struggles.

Pokemon is one of those games that I feel a lot of people don't really care about the game as much as they care about the community. So the technical issues or even the game features are secundary as long as we get a new wave of theory crafting, community art, etc.

not only that the game doesn't need voice acting, apparently, it doesn't even need optimization at all.

Some games sell no matter what. It would be nice to see what a different/better developer could do with the license but that will probably never happen…

This game is a prime example and a reminder that Nintendo, although a host of some fan favorite franchises, in it's core is a greedy anti-consumer corporation. Nice QA Nintendo....much like your joycons.

Edit: to the haters, should I remind you of the cease and desist to fan projects, of the milking with BARE MINIMUM EFFORT ports, of stealing code from emulators, of the paid USELESS - FUTURELESS on-line, of their warranty policy etc etc ?!?!
