Nintendo locking Splatoon in a single platform, a title that is DEFINITELY NOT a system seller, has hurt the game badly.

I want to play Splatoon but even when I owned a switch, I wasn't willing to pay full price for THAT and it is not available for neither ps, xbox or pc ... so nintendo can suck it, there are more interesting games out-there.

DarXyde533d ago

Sounds like you probably don't want to play it all that badly then, yeah?

At nearly 8 million units sold, I think they'll be alright.

ActualEngineer533d ago (Edited 533d ago )

Do I look like a market consultant for Nintendos accounting department mate?! I'm talking about my experience as a gamer and the game, this is not a full price game, this is not god of war or cyberpunk mate, it is just a fun gimmick.

But you do kinda sound like you work for Nintendo 🤣

ActualEngineer,

"I'm talking about my experience as a gamer and the game, this is not a full price game, this is not god of war or cyberpunk mate, it is just a fun gimmick."

You're entitled to your opinion. Apparently, 7.9 million people felt it was worth the price. At that level of success, "DEFINITELY NOT a system seller" sounds debatable (which would actually make it the opposite of 'definitely'). Not big on Splatoon myself, but we should know that our opinions are just that - our opinions. We can discuss the fun gimmick part of your comment, but we would need some data on active players and engagement. I don't really care enough to look into that right this moment.

"But you do kinda sound like you work for Nintendo 🤣"

I think that's the first time anyone has ever come to this conclusion about me. Cheers for the chuckle.

this list just illustrates that people still buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo software. Despite fan's insistence to the contrary, MH: Rise is the best selling 3rd party game with 10 million sales. And that's with help from PC.

I agree with you that Splatoon 3 isn't a system seller but only because the title was released after the Switch reached market saturation. 8 million sales in 4 months is pretty impressive on a single platform, any way you slice it

Ryuk_2007533d ago

Splatoon 3 sold 8 million in 2 months. For comparison it took the last of us part 2 around 2 years to sale 10 million.

MadLad533d ago

Almost 8 million people were happy to.
The lifetime sales for it will be far more.

ActualEngineer533d ago (Edited 533d ago )

God forbid ... I startled the extremely intelligent Nintendo fan-base and they are throwing sale charts at me.

How could I possibly have a different personal opinion that is anything else but pure adoration for this abomination of a company ... I MEAN this company that is definitely not ATLEAST a generation behind in services and hardware and is definitely NOT selling 5 year old games at full price because their main audience is the relatives of 8 years old children, at their birthdays and in holidays.

Thank you guys for pointing how a gimmicky- indie like multiplayer shooter will be fine as a franchise If I don't buy it and how I do not care about this game as much as my dog, so my opinion is just sad.

Btw, do you guys know how to fix the joycons that keep disconnecting due to god💩 design?! Because I threw away my switch and bought a steam deck instead and I was wondering if I could have done otherwise...

In all seriousness, add it in steam for 5 bucks and I will buy it in a sale.

your opinion is just sour grapes though. You want to play the game on your hardware of choice, and then you gripe because it's an exclusive. What do you expect?

CrimsonWing69533d ago

I think you just need to stop. You’re getting way defensive for sharing an opinion that’s… well, let’s just keep it at sharing your opinion.

Nintendo has always had exclusives for their consoles since the beginning of the NES and I think you’re wrong about a game that’s sold 7.90 million units not being a system seller. There was a Splatoon 3 themed Switch model for chrissakes.

The whole point of exclusives is to sell your product over the competitors’. This isn’t new and complaining about it is pretty stupid. It’s like a Sony fan crying about Halo not being available on a PS5 or an Xbox fan crying about how The Last of Us isn’t on Xbox.

Neonridr533d ago

why would a Nintendo developed game be available on ps or Xbox?

@ActualEngineer
It’s not that you can’t have an opinion but your in a public forum and open to scrutiny.
Sounds like you didn’t like the system nor think Splatoon was worth it. Which is fine, but it’s also fine to show data that others are enjoying the game.
As for Nintendo, they haven’t put out a true competitor to the PS and Xbox since GameCube(could argue N64). I know people always seem to criticize Nintendo for that. But if you had a company pulling in those type of numbers ( Animal Crossing 48 mil) would you change your formula?

gold_drake533d ago

right?
as a 1st party platform, those numbers are a dream come true.

gold_drake533d ago (Edited 533d ago )

just shows you that Nintendos 1st party games are the only sellers they have.

which, i mean is probably enough for them, just look at those numbers haha.

but anything other than that .. has little to no chance.

badz149532d ago

"nINtEnDo NeEdS gAMepAsS" they said...

MadLad531d ago (Edited 531d ago )

I don't think anyone said that.

Microsoft offered to bring Gamepass to other platforms, but that's about it.

Nintendo lives and dies by their IPs. I know people who buy their consoles, literally, just for Zelda and Mario.
