PlatinumGames has released the first of a four-part documentary examining the development of Bayonetta 3. It's jam-packed with fascinating anecdotes from the team, including a rather surprising revelation from the game's director, Yusuke Miyata.
Miyata confirmed that Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Bayonetta franchise, approached him directly to offer up the role of the sequel's director. However, instead of jumping at the opportunity, Miyata was initially hesitant and was worried that Kamiya himself would interfere in the project too much.

It's a great game but it's obvious that many aspects became subpar
Locations expanded but lost unique style. Bayonetta and Jean just don't show as much of their badass as before.
Fights with Lumen sage in B2 were unforgettable and stylish. In B3 boss fights are... meh...
dev team either exhausted their imagination or just didn't know how to implement new features the best way.
P.S. Seems can't those witches just start be aware of their surroundings, it's stunning how writes use one and the same trick again again and again in the course of the game.
