Resident Evil 4 Remake is 'about the same' length as original, says Capcom

Capcom paid attention to the criticisms of the Resident Evil 3 Remake.

TheEnigma313539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

We all know how RE3 turned out. I took my time with that one and completed it a lil over 2 hours smh. This game looks very good, but I'm not paying $70 for it. Gonna wait it out.

seanpitt23539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

The game looks good but the physics look the same as the original.. not jumping in after RE3 I got to blindsided after the amazing RE2 remake.

TheEnigma313539d ago

bingo. I did enjoy 3, but felt ripped off because it was stripped down from the original. I know the original was short but they made the remake shorter, unacceptable

TheEnigma313539d ago

Good they aren't opting for the $70 orice gouge, but I'm still going to wait. The prices drop pretty fast on 3rd party games.

jaymacx539d ago

There’s one thing you may not have considered. Resident Evil 3 Remake was developed by a different team than Resident Evil 2 Remake.

TheEnigma313539d ago

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. It makes sense now.

MrBaskerville539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

2 hours seems unlikely on a first run. Took me around 8 and I didn't take my time.

I didn't mind the length. i think the main issue is that there's too few decent hubs to explore. I felt there was more substance to the areas in Re2 remake.

Eidolon539d ago

I call BS on your first run being "a little over" 2 hours unless you knew what you were doing. A lot of games can be made short if you've played them before and know exactly what to not do.

TheEnigma313539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

Ummmmm I've been playing RE since the original on ps1. I'm very familiar at how they are and this is a remake remember, not a new game.

Eidolon539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

So he knew what he was doing? While they probably made RE3 Remake shorter than the original, it's obviously going to be shorter on consecutive playthroughs. RE4 Remake looks like it could try to be 1:1 with the original. And the original wasn't long. For RE3 Remake you can even say it's faster due to QoL changes, controls, etc.

Eidolon539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

I rented RE2 Remake, and bought RE3 Remake for under $20, while I was done with it after my first playthrough, I could squeeze a few more dollars out of it like time based stuff, trophies.

Storm23539d ago

@Eidolon

Wasn’t RE4 actually a pretty long game for a single player horror game? I thought I remembered it being quite a bit longer than expected. I could be wrong

Eidolon539d ago

@Storm23

No you're right, it is up there for length in survival horrors. Could be judging based on my consecutive playthroughs, but I'd also consider non-exploited speedruns, and consider the nuances of controls, forced qtes and sequences etc of that era that didn't age well. RE4 was funner, RE3 felt more like a survival horror, RE4 was more arcade-ish.

I hope they rework the castle a bit. It was too much. And cut the statue chase, it was so stupid :D

Gamehard539d ago

I'm just hoping Krauser is still in the game. Still haven't seen a trace of him. And mercenaries mode was so fun using him, too.

VersusDMC539d ago

Easy Allies had a hands on preview and they saw a flashback cutscene with someone with a red berret. Who they assume is krauser.

There will be at least one more trailer that will show more before launch. They will add some military island footage to the next trailer.

-Foxtrot539d ago

I do hope Mercenaries comes back with different modes

I'd love a no time limit mode to see how long I can last without worrying about those stupid hourglasses

DeathTouch539d ago

RE3 was Ok. Which is a shame, since it could’ve been great.

CrimsonWing69539d ago (Edited 539d ago )

Is this going to be different than the original like RE3 Remake? I was under the impression that was the case, but what they showed (aside from events not unfolding like in the original for 1:1) it was essentially the same scenario. I hope it doesn’t play the story off as campy, either. I felt like RE4 was sort of self aware. I’d like to see the story be written more seriously and feel connected, rather than this semi-goofy side story.

Overall Game of the Year 2023

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Those that made it onto the Shortlist below are each special in their own way. Alan Wake 2, a long time in the making, dazzled players with its cutting-edge graphics and brilliant narrative. Baldur's Gate III wowed critics and consumers alike with an amazing cast of characters and dizzying gameplay freedom. Final Fantasy XVI impressed with its beautiful cut-scenes and fresh take on action combat. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a game under the shadow of impossibly high expectations, invigorated its audience with endless opportunities for experimentation. And Resident Evil 4 riffed on an 18-year-old formula, in some instances improving on one of the best games of all time."

*shrug*

It's a Nintendo-heavy site. What else can be said?

anast81d ago

A copy-paste game over BG3...Gotta get that access.

coretone75d ago

BG3 is overrated. It's the worst BG there is.

anast74d ago

Give me some exact reasons why it is overrated. I have some ideas, but I want to hear yours first.

Star ocean 2 remake. That's easy to answer

Best Lead Performance of 2023

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "As the average game script balloons in dialogue there's greater demand for marquee acting talent. And as illustrated by both good & poor examples from 2023, sympathizing with a protagonist's struggle greatly relies on both the writing and delivery. This is emphasized in two unique ways by this year's shortlist: the addition of a voice fundamentally altering Dead Space remake's story beats & the dual protagonist structure in Alan Wake II. A fumble in either of those respects would've resulted in lesser works; fortunately, they're among some of the year's most celebrated titles."

Best VR Game of 2023

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "2023 was a notable year for VR hardware, with both Sony's PSVR2 and Meta's Meta Quest 3 arriving on the scene. Both of them have primarily earned a considerable amount of praise for their technological advancements, but that's not to say their software output was extinct. Granted, early adoption tends to favor older ports with improved visuals and new controller/headset gimmicks; it comes with the territory. But within that flow of ports and updates came an exclusive for each respective platform reaching our shortlist. It's too early to tell if that presages a bountiful surplus of future masterclass VR games, but it's a welcoming sign all the same."

“Horizon Call of the Mountain” had more bells and whistles and has some wow moments for VR newbies. But I had more fun playing “Synapse”.

DaleCooper91d ago

Synapse was my VR GOTY. Such a great game.

coolbeans91d ago

Damn. I want to try that one soon.

Leeroyw91d ago

Red Matter 2 was it for me. The visuals, scope and writing was incredible.

coolbeans91d ago

Another one I missed from last year.

DaleCooper87d ago

Just picked this up, can't wait to play it!

coolbeans90d ago

Don't spoil the surprise for everyone. ;)
