Raff: God of War (2018) was a rollercoaster of emotions. Every reveals up until the end was, for the lack of a better adjective, amazing. And so far, during my hands-on with Ragnarök, it looks like this sequel will surpass the reputation achieved by its predecessor.
God of War Ragnarok debuts on PC with just under 23,000 concurrent players on Steam, 60% fewer than God of War 2018's launch.
"One potential reason for the lower numbers is the mandatory PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement, which has frustrated many players."
Every AAA game requires logins from their publishers. Even on PS and Xbox you must still login to a 3rd party publisher.
Why is this journalist pretending this is the first time this has ever happened? Or that it hasn't existed since the 1990s?
Hellblade 2 and Starfield dont require an Xbox login on Steam. Dragon Age coming soon won't require an EA login.
Yes it does.
Or does "every" suddenly mean something different when Sony is involved in what we complain about other publishers doing?
@BlackTar187 the guy was speaking in absolutes so yeah a couple of games absolutely wrecked his argument. What potemkin village are you from? Lol
Lol. It doesn't refute? How about all the hate helldivers 2 got as well? Pc gamers are particular in this instance. It's not something that's just made up.
If it were optional I'd gladly link my account to see trophies, but force me to do it?!! Go f@#$j yourself!!
So you don't mind it, but since it is required then you would rather skip a game that you want to play? Gamers these days are cry baby.
You are required to pay at a store when you buy something, do you just rob now?
@Northpaws
That's is the most apples to oranges equation. If it's not that big of a deal then why not just skip it completely 🤷🏾?
There is little to no info on what percent of Steam games require third party accounts to play. it's simply not tracked. But I highly doubt only 1% of AAA games on Steam require an account.
Doesn't matter if it happens elsewhere, the fact it's happening now is potentially hurting sonys sales.
You’re speaking in absolutes and you’re laughably wrong, it isn’t true that all games require a login to the “publisher”, whatever that even means. And it’s especially not true for games in the 90s that barely had anti-cheat, none that I’m aware of had DRM, and most often functioned on p2p connections.
Most games have the option to sign in to things like Ubisoft Connect, usually in exchange for in-game rewards/content. You don't always *have* to do these sign-ins though. But whenever it's forced people always complain about it. You should never be forced to sign-in to other platforms. If I'm playing a game on Steam I should not have to sign-in to PlayStation Network.
Even the trophies argument is ridiculous. Steam has built-in achievements. Sony should use them like everyone else does instead of forcing trophies if people don't want to sign-in.
also, its already cracked. for people who fly a flag with a skull and crossbones, you know what I mean
"also, its already cracked. for people who fly a flag with a skull and crossbones, you know what I mean"
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine with 2225,690 all time peak players, says hello.
I understand why Sony will try to avoid and release their first party games day and date on PS5 and PC, especially their single player games which are expected to drive PS5 sales, whoever, such strategy really puts them between a rock and a hard place, since later releases on PC at full price, will most definitely attract less gamers.
Not sure if Sony´s strategy to sell more games while making their franchises more popular among PC gamers is working right now.
They have a more "agressive" plan/approach for PC in place. Let´s see how it unfolds.
I agree with you which normally isn’t the case! Hehe
“ Not sure if Sony´s strategy to sell more games while making their franchises more popular among PC gamers is working right now.”
I agree
Also Sony putting Lego horizon on switch
Not sure how that will work out either
Was probably a Lego stipulation to release on switch, but still interesting
Exactly, DODI or FitGirl repacks no PSN shit needed lol. "Arrr, Me Mateys" I mean if you want you can still buy the game, also keep the ISO in this way.
I'm very happy to be corrected.
I think this is because PSN isn't available in 100s of countries which means users can't even buy the game in their region.
I think it's time for Sony go get these studios to do remaster collections for Infamous, Killzone, Resistance, etc instead of PC ports. They would make way more money and actually get people excited.
Sony will eventually release certain titles day and date mark my words. There’s to much money on PC to ignore. Some of you people need to understand that exclusives are slowly coming to an end. Sony doesn’t even have true exclusives anymore they have timed exclusives. Deny all you want but the proof is in the pudding.
I dunno. 60% fewer sales than its predecessor sounds like a fail on the surface. Is it because of the PSN thing, or just lack of interest?
Ragnarok sold 15 million on consoles and there are only 30k playing it at launch on PC. Not really alot of money there for day one.
Playstation players already complain that games take too long to make so i doubt they will make developers take longer so they have a PC version day one to sell an extra 5% at 30% less revenue due to steam cut.
Do you really thing those numbers would be the same if GOWR released day and date on PC? I definitely would have bought it on PC instead.
@speak
"I definitely would have bought it on PC instead."
Sounds like you bought it on PS5 due to it not being on PC. Which means Sony got 100% of your money instead of 70% and 30% going to steam.
Which is the reason why there will be no day 1 PC for their non live service /multiplayer games.
This was cracked on day 2 - there’s too much piracy on pc to ignore
Cheating in multiplayer games too
Blame it on piracy which isn’t as bad as you make it out to be, typical console player with no knowledge of pc. It’s a worse game than the first, it requires a psn account for single player and overall if you played the first game you’ve played the second. I just watched a play through and it was 90% just characters yapping about useless shit. Og god of war is so much better.
There are other versions where you will never need a PSN account, every Sony port to PC (single player) you don't need one like this for example "God of War: Ragnarok - Digital Deluxe Edition (All DLCs + Bonus Content + 6 GB VRam Fix + MULTi22) (From 68.5 GB) [DODI Repack]" LOL Everyone complains but don't realize how easy these games are to get.
Big deal have to login to a free psn account, Pc guys getting an amazing exclusive but crying over a free login that takes all of 30 seconds.
i still think they should launch the titles on multi platforms that people are unable to get anywhere else like god of war 1 &2 remastered, Ascension, PS versions. both current gen owners and pc players will like that and it will not devalue the PS5 system. people would still need the PS5 to play the latest but not anymore.
Mandatory PSN account login requirement is one. For me, the worse part was that I knew the pc port would be raw enough to have noticiable issues around (since Ratchet & Clank, Nixxes regained my respect of porting PS titles to PC). Sound is acting weird that gets very annoying, staggering present performance issues in specific parts, analog aiming drifting issues, gaming often crashing with Nvidia updated common drivers... it has been a bad experience since release. Luckly, I held my impulse to buy it and instead I am playing in a friends account. Yeah, my money was better expend on pre-ordering Space Marine 2: barely noticiable issues for me from DAY 1 and an smooth gaming even today. Shame on you Sony. Shame on you.
God of War Ragnarok is now available on PC, and here are the best settings for getting optimized performance on mid-end system specs.
God of War on PC has been review bombed by gamers due to its PSN requirement, though some can play without signing up.
So, having multiple Steam, Epic, GoG, Gamepass, Google, Netflix and so on accounts are ok to get to use the games/shows/movies you want is ok, but when Playstation does it, it's a problem for you guys?! Hypocrites...
What's odd here is, some are able to play without signing in or creating a PSN account, while others cannot.
Well I don't defend not being able to login, but this drama is only with Playstation games. If I forgot my Blizzard password and had 2step verification on, I can't really complain or downvote a Blizzard game because I don't keep a note or so about the password and have the app installed for verification. Read those downvotes, mostly not Sony's fault at all to be honest.
People can't play the game because they are getting errors that are preventing them from getting in the game. This is a single player game, this is ridiculous in fact this is exactly what xbox wanted to do over 10 years ago but now playstation is doing it on PC. Funny how things happen sometimes.
Yes, because "everyone" let M$ get away with it over the years, ofc Sony, Apple, Amazon etc will follow suit...
I uninstalled Minecraft because it wants me to do a M$/Gamepass account whatever it was just to play it. Insane.
But it's their game, they can do that, and I can uninstall it. Did I downvote it. Nope. No need to put energy in a game I wont play.
Maybe these dudes should do the same? If they hate Sony and their login so much, move on, simple as that.
Edit: Minecraft was my PS4 client, just for clarification. ;)
Omg i am so tired of people QQ they need to use a ps account! You have to login to: steam, epic games, gog and even to play game pass games and each game pass games requires you to sign in on first launch. So login once and stop the QQ man! And before you start i don't have a ps i play on pc/xbox
There's been complaints about 3rd party applications for pretty much forever. Ubi and EA are big ones and you'll always see downvotes on those games.
I'm seeing a lot of reviews stating many are having issues even creating accounts right now. Then you have the people region locked out of the game entirely. It's also a single player game, which makes this being a requirement utterly pointless.
And this isn't just a Sony thing. People make the same complaints with multiple other launchers. There's no reason you need to launch a game in one launcher just to have another one required. If they want to sell their games directly all the more power to them, but they know Steam boosts sales. But if you're selling on Steam I really should just need Steam.
@TheNamelessOne. Personally I don't play on PC apart from Last Epoch on my laptop, but I thought you make a PSN account, link it to Steam and just play with Steam?? So my comments above was like, how hard can it be to make a PSN account and link it once....
I had to do the same thing linking my Last Epoch account to Steam (once!) :)
Signing into a platform is different then signing into a single player game, its simply not needed.
Oh, great job on the false equivalence.
The only gaming account most PC gamers will readily use is Steam, because it’s the de facto platform in the ecosystem, just like PSN is for PlayStation and Microsoft is for Xbox. Anything else isn’t viewed positively, which is why any game that uses EOS (Epic Online Services), EA Play, Ubisoft Connect, etc., is often met with contempt.
With Sony, it’s particularly annoying because it offers nothing for that login. Not to mention, the login system is completely broken - just like pretty much all their ports that aren’t handled by their only technically competent team, Nixxes.
But I get it - console b*tchs aren’t really known for voicing their opinions and making sure their overlords hear their complaints. So it seems like their "pimp" is being target. PC players in general aren’t that spineless, so you’ll keep hearing their complaints, liking it or not.
Meanwhile, I need a Microsoft account to play their games on PlayStation consoles and Steam and everywhere else...
Everything you said is super hypocritical.
It’s a single player game. Why should anyone need an account for single player?
Torrent it laugh at Sony move on. No account needed. Plus the game needs future patches, as it was not actually done and launched with some issues, so your again paying for something that was not ready for sale.
I mean... I wouldn't really blame people for being sceptical of PlayStation managing their data.
I don't know about security breaches with the others, but if there was and you're only coming after PlayStation as you use the others, yeah, that's hypocritical.
While I do enjoy my PlayStation (mostly), I don't really understand why Sony needs this. It just feels like that extra intrusive step that's whole unnecessary. Don't we surrender enough information to these companies?
Im thinking Sony needs to stop porting games to PC at this point. If it’s so hard for the master race to have a PSN account to play game when they have those other accounts, why bother catering to them if all they’re gonna do review bomb?
Imagine defending a corporation’s mandatory account policy when that same corporation had 2 catastrophic data breaches of password, username, and credit card info and refused to even notify its users for 6 months. Bootlicker peasant that eats the slop he’s served, that’s you lol
Did you miss the salt storm when Epic was buying exclusives for its store? And your comparison is not the same thing at all.
I think it was more of a case by case basis? But I think people assumed it would be required for MP games, but not for SP.
I buy a game on steam and play directly no need for me to do anything else, then comes Ubisoft, EA, Sony and try to make me sign in again why? For that specific game that I just bought... What am i missing?
Your Steam account gets linked to those other accounts. You don't have to keep signing in.
Their system is broken. Some people can't even play the game. It's region locked. Some can't even create an account.
...I'm going to have to create another account as I got the first God Of War on steam and loved it, no PSN account required.
Even though this is nothing more than a minor annoyance it limit's regions where this game can be sold. I don't understand why you would restrict a game that is released on Steam.
Piratisation... rather to support smaller number of countries that do pay for the game and have to log in... than the whole world where everyone can pirate and play without the acc.
So why do devs outright say the used game market hurts their sales more than piracy ever has? Used games are entirely a console thing.
Buddy this doesn't stop piracy. It literally makes zero difference to piracy whatsoever.
People always need a reason to be upset, nowadays you’re not a modern gamer if brain rot or pointless anger doesn’t come from you.
I personally enjoy that I can collect my PS trophies while playing it on PC. Same goes for Xbox games with my achievement. People are way too glued to social media to have thoughts for themselves, that’s where brain rot comes in. People only get upset when Sony does it. When Microsoft requires a Microsoft account to play Sea of Thieves on PS5, people are quiet.
As a PC gamer all I see are PC fanboys / Xbox fanboys / Twitter fanboys finding a reason to generate hate for every game ever made. This is what happens when people struggle to think for themselves and research for themselves.
I’m a PC game, my boy. My PS5 is my third choice. My Switch is my second choice.
At least you tried though.
PlayStation Plus coming soon to PC. And YES, ALL of their exclusive games will be EXCLUSIVELY on PlayStation Plus to PC players.
Doesn’t matter, with the fuss people are kicking up about signing into PlayStation network about a multiplayer game like Helldivers that or a single player game like God of War, imagine the fuss that would be created if PS Plus was to come to pc and definitely would require signing into the PS network.
Sony should do like they did with Concord and just kill off their whole push onto pc since people want to complain about a sign in.
I mean, Sony is more than welcome to attempt that, but they can ask Microsoft why they very quickly phased out Gold for GFWL before the service collapsed, forcing them to rethink their strategy and adapt to a market they had to learn from the hard way. Let's repeat history, at least it'd be pretty funny to watch while it lasts.
I'd like to know why its necessary to have a psn account for the pc version of these games and also why its such a big deal for pc players to make one
Fuck Microsoft for FORCING me to log in to Windows before my Steam client!! Where can I review bomb Windows god damnit
The torrent of the game doesn't need any PSN account bullshit, no Sony games that you torrent do. If you want to buy the game you can but play the torrent of it. On the plus side you get to actually own the game ISO.
Don't know why playstation is pursuing this pc strategy for their single player games seems more trouble than it's worth. They just bitch and moan and pirate their games, playstation should stop all together.
Bingo. You don't see Nintendo doing this dumb shit. It's greed on both sides and it's fxxxing up the eco system. You can't have it and shouldn't be able too either.
Here's a belated video of how God of War Ragnarok runs on PC that I took the liberty of recording. Runs quite well with no perceivable stutters nor bugs as of yet..
