I hope that Microsoft would address these quality/build issues since consumers are paying more for what is marketed as a "premium" product. And I hope that Sony doesn't have these same issues when they launch the DualSense Edge.

Jin_Sakai569d ago (Edited 569d ago )

Purchased my first Series Elite 2 controller a few days ago and the trigger already squeaks like crazy. Ended up returning it and won’t be getting another one. This kind of build quality for a $154 “on sale” controller is unacceptable!

crazyCoconuts568d ago

Same issue my kid had with his second one. His first one had an issue with a thumbstick. It looks and feels great, such a shame

MIDGETonSTILTS17568d ago

I regretted buying the first one, and I can’t say that I’m surprised to hear that issues still persist.

n1kki6568d ago

Me too. But they have to have the numbers seeing how many of these have been warrantied and they still haven't done anything about it. These are issues dating back to version 1. It unacceptable these are still issues on a premium product.

Elda569d ago

Just stick with the controller the console comes with.

EvertonFC569d ago

Agreed, Xbox gamers are buying more controllers than games which is odd to say pmsl

Jin_Sakai569d ago

The standard Xbox controllers are the loudest clickiest controllers I’ve ever used. That’s my issue.

The elite controllers aren’t as bad plus you get hair lock triggers and replaceable stick caps. The problem is that they cost significantly more and the build quality isn’t great.

SDuck568d ago

Had one for awhile and I agree but at the same time, I kinda miss it (had to change for a Dualsense because there was a lack of stock on xbox controllers) (I'm a pc gamer)

EvertonFC569d ago

Xbox broke you're heart over a controller ? I thought it would have been lack of AAA games and the waiting game for 10 years 🤭🤫

Elda569d ago

It's not being mean it's the truth. This year alone not one AAA first-party exclusive.

EvertonFC569d ago (Edited 569d ago )

🤫🤫🤫

FlavorLav01568d ago (Edited 568d ago )

Truth hurts. They won’t get over that hurdle either if we’re patting them on the back and telling how great a job their doing. Controllers are great, quality AAA games are even better.

OptimusDK568d ago

Yeah much better to get a bunch of high priced remakes...

Crows90568d ago

@optimus
At least there's a large group of PlayStation fans complaining about that issue. And as far as I recall...that's just one this year.
You guys don't complain about anything and j was an Xbox fan during 360 and early one days so I know the heart breaking feeling for sure. There were only so many wait till next year announcements I could take.

I have my OG elite. It’s my main controller even if all the grips fell off.

FlavorLav01568d ago

How elite is it now if you have no grips left? It was my main gripe too. For the price point it was anything but ELITE after only a few months of consistent usage…

franwex568d ago (Edited 568d ago )

Bro, I’m not a Microsoft employee. Ask them not me. With all this backlash you will think they will listen. Yet here we are with version 2 falling apart.

PhillyDillyDee568d ago

Yeah ive been rolling around the idea of getting the 2. But then i remember that i had to replace the elite 1 twice when the grips fell off. Thankfully amazon took care of me on both of those instances. Anyway i just don’t understand why they, one, cant fix the issues with the internals, and two, dont offer a version without the terrible rubber grips.

DualSense Edge review - the best controller ever made

It’s not cheap but it does make the best controller of the current generation even better.

Jin_Sakai456d ago

Now that’s some high praise. I’d say it’s definitely better than the Xbox Elite controller. That thing is has horrible build quality.

SullysCigar455d ago

Yeah, people are loving this thing.

I'm thinking PC gamers will be all over this if there's an official patch or some clever folks can work it out. It sounds lovely.

Jin_Sakai455d ago

Agreed. I purchased a new Elite Series 2 controller a while back and within the first week the right bumper started squeaking and the A button would randomly stop registering. Ridiculous for a premium controller. Ended up returning it.

Sonic1881455d ago (Edited 455d ago )

As a PC gamer first, I would only use it if it was wireless for PC. I think it has to be wired to use it on a PC

crazyCoconuts455d ago

@sonic, if I assume an edge connects the same way as a regular DualSense, you can connect via Bluetooth wirelessly. But if you have PC games that support the cool DualSense features, they don't seem to work unless you hard wire. Also some games need a utility like DS4windows to recognize the controller. All that and you still won't have a native PC utility to change configs like the Elite has. Unless PS does more to support PC gamers, I wouldn't think it would be worth it. If you like the PS layout, a DS4 with back paddle attachment and DS4windows isn't a bad setup

Mr Logic455d ago

@crazyCoconuts

Steam natively supports DS4 and Dualsense along with configs. No need for DS4W.

Orchard455d ago

@MrLogic That is only for games that implement SteamInput. A lot of PC games use DirectInput/XInput, especially if they are releasing on other stores - SteamInput doesn't work outside of Steam.

IanTH455d ago

@crazyCoconuts

I'd also like to toss another option out there, if one doesn't mind paying, called reWASD. The basic version of it costs $7, but the amount of customization in that thing is incredible. I'd been aware of it for a while, but finally took the plunge recently and am loving it.

Dang thing is so flexible I've even been able to set up a wireless PS3 Nav Controller & mouse combo for analog movement & mouse precision for FPS games! If you have controllers Steam doesn't natively support, or you want even MORE control, I'd suggest anyone vaguely interested at least download the trial :-)

FingerAction454d ago

this controller looks pretty legit.

SullysCigar455d ago

I'm going to need it to cost a little less, but I'm definitely getting one at some stage.

northpaws455d ago

The only problem is the regular DualSense is already so good, this is not giving me enough extra to justify the price.

crazyCoconuts455d ago (Edited 455d ago )

If I played more multiplayer on my ps5 I'd get it for the back paddles. I think they make a difference because you don't have to move your thumb off the stick.

IanTH455d ago (Edited 455d ago )

The amount of customization with profiles & such also seems so great that, even though I also primarily play single player games, I'd also be interested in upgrading if it were at least in $150 range or under. At $200, though, it is a bit of a tough sell personally. Hopefully we get some decent sales not too far down the line.

blackblades455d ago

Yeah to an extent, i think had got a wonky one. Mines since the beginning was super sensitive to the left and now I have stick drift.

Elda455d ago (Edited 455d ago )

Not for that price. For that price, I can buy several games. A regular Sony PS5 DS would suffice for me.

SullysCigar455d ago

Same. i bought my galactic purple DualSense on sale and I'll do the same for the DualSense Edge. Black Friday, perhaps...

roadkillers455d ago

It’s cool, but I hate customization. Just give me the best controller with improvements. Battery improvement would be one option imo

IanTH455d ago

I get maybe not caring for customization, or not personally seeing the value in it, but why do you hate it? Not saying you don't have a reason, just not sure I have heard anyone be so against options before lol.

roadkillers455d ago (Edited 455d ago )

It’s weird man. When creating my character in let’s say, Elden Ring… I just pick default. Same with Madden, WWE, NBA, Mass Effect, etc. I don’t want to spend time making my character a certain way, or customize controls, I just want to play.

I really enjoy having the developer make it the same across the board. Possibly a shared experience. Or maybe I was criticized when I was younger? I remember people complaining how I had the controls inverted. Idk, but I much prefer for it to be the same across the board.

Microsoft's custom Xbox Elite Series 2 hasn't broken on me yet

Microsoft's new custom Elite Series 2 gamepad seems to solve most of the high-end controller's hardware issues.

Didn't this controller just come out a month ago? Lol. Controllers don't break that quickly (even Elite controllers).

PhillyDillyDee510d ago

This is the exception. Not the rule.

1Victor510d ago (Edited 510d ago )

How much abuse does he inflicted on previous controllers😱
My controllers last the whole generation or till my nephews decides to play with them and loose on CoD😢

gold_drake510d ago

but does it still do the loud ckick noises everytime you press a button? or move the stick? haha

Jin_Sakai510d ago

Absolutely how how loud and clicky Xbox controllers are.

gold_drake510d ago

yeh its mad how damn loud they are lol

deleted510d ago

This should be the box quote.

jznrpg510d ago

Well that should be expected ?

Black is also more expensive. You have the option of buying the white one with all the same components as the black one.

VenomUK594d ago (Edited 594d ago )

Woah, for a minute there I thought that was the Xbox DualSense Elite.

agnosticgamer594d ago (Edited 594d ago )

@Orchard
The Black one (that is more expensive) Comes with all the interchangeable components. The White Core one doesn't.
On a side note, it also says that the Elite Series controllers are coming to the design lab this holiday. could be cool, but will also add to the already expensive price I'm sure.

1Victor594d ago (Edited 594d ago )

Welcome to the future of controllers with 40 hours rechargeable battery 😱
Color me impressed 👍🏿 👍🏿

CaptainHenry916594d ago (Edited 594d ago )

The black one does look better but maybe I'm saying that because I already own one with my PC lol

Orchard594d ago

I like the idea of being able to buy a customizable and more premium controller without having to buy the back paddles etc.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH594d ago

I’ve never once used the back paddles so I agree.

Software_Lover594d ago

I always use the back pedals. It’s the main reason that I purchased the controller(s)

Nephesh594d ago

I tried to like them, but they are in the way of your grip on the controller, so you accidentally hit them ALL the time!

--Onilink--594d ago (Edited 594d ago )

To me it doesnt make sense that at that price point it doesnt include the paddles (which can be removed anyway), its the biggest distinguishing factor between a normal and a “pro controller”
Selling everything else as a separate package seems fine to me

Tacoboto594d ago

Oh my, people spend over $100 on a gaming controller and choose *not* to use the paddles?

I'm shocked. They're the best thing ever to me. Even the two rear buttons on the 8BitDo Pro 2.

Orchard594d ago (Edited 594d ago )

Yeah, I have an Elite and I never use the back paddles. It just doesn't feel natural to me and it's not something I was able to get used to.

Not saying they are bad, I get why some people like them - but for me, I could've saved $50 on my controller since the paddles just sit in the case.

I use the Elite because it feels better to play, the weight of the sticks, being able to tweak configs etc. Best feeling controller on the market.

Tacoboto594d ago

Oh it is great. I've got the tension turned up on the sticks but in my case, paddles were the biggest change and quickest to get used to.

The A button on mine feels like it's ever so slightly misaligned, requiring a harder press on the left side versus directly on top. So basically when aiming and jumping. Missed a couple jumps on Halo 5, started using the paddles after - hard to go back.

My right bumper either misses or double fires about a third of the time. Hopefully these new units are more tightly built.

SavageFlamingo594d ago

I really hope they fixed all of the out of the box issues.

Nephesh594d ago

My bumpers broke exactly after the warranty was up.

SavageFlamingo594d ago

Oh wow. You mean it lasted that long?

Aussieguy594d ago

I wonder if they finally fixed STICK DRIFT? I know it happens to all controllers these days, but if your paying a premium price for a controller you want it to last and the sticks are really a very important part of a controller and used for everything. This is what put me off buying the old elite controller as I heard it got bad stick drift.

mkis007594d ago

Surprised they didnt go the route of replaceable entire stick modules

Kaze88594d ago

If you open a controller, get the stick out from the component, spray contact cleaner on its parts from the sides and top. Then move the stick for every direction for 1min. In most cases this fixes it, I have fixed loads of them and the ones that were fixed, haven't heard them since being broken again and it was a year ago.

Bladesfist594d ago

They all use the same parts, and the parts have a limited lifetime, they should just make them easily replaceable.

PhillyDillyDee593d ago

Yet still no option to get one without those cheap rubber grips…
