Resident Evil 9 Is Leaving The Winters Behind, So What's Next For The Series?

Resident Evil’s modern identity is all about the Winters. The stellar remakes of 2 & 3 might have introduced us to new versions of familiar characters such as Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine, but it feels like Capcom was trying to carve out a new chapter in this universe that doesn’t rely on everything that came before. Now it turns out that era is coming to an end.

Is that confirmed? I could see them going with the kid for a full game tbh.

I would like to see a total Reboot, that means leaving the Redfields, the Kennedys, and the Valentines behind also. I mean where else can they go with this story? The characters are 50 years old and the story has gone totally off the rails. I'd like a reboot that goes back to it's zombie roots, like a new zombie outbreak in a totally new city or town, with totally new characters.

Army_of_Darkness572d ago

Hey hey! We haven't seen RE reach the alien invasion yet! Onwards with the sequels Capcom! Haha! No, No I kid!
I agree... I'd like RE to get a full reboot back to the creepy looking zombies! Hell, do a whole new story in an open world environment if they can! I'm down!

Reboot please

Remake the first again (again, it's been 20 years - more before this even comes out)

Add new rooms like the original remake did, recreate old ones, add more puzzles, change some around, add new enemy types like how the original added crimson heads and try to set up a new direction for the franchise.

When it comes to the sequel they don't need to do Racoon City and remake RE2/RE3 etc, they can just put the franchise on a new path with the same characters. You can still include Leon but with the Racoon City incident not happening they can come up with a new story/threat for him and Claire to face while in RE3 Jill might be paired back up with Chris as they investigate a new area with ties to Umbrella..

Orchard574d ago

I would love another remake of RE1. But CV first please!

Also, a new Outbreak would be awesome. They keep trying to make new innovate MP experiences when really just a new Outbreak would be fine.

DeathTouch573d ago

No more soft reboots. Create something new.

-Foxtrot573d ago

So they can jump the shark even more than they have

I’d rather not

We’re up to 9 main games, it’s time

Name Last Name573d ago

They’re doing great with VIII. Doubt they start over while they’re hot.

CrimsonWing69573d ago

I’d rather them try to take that classic RE formula (survival horror and obtuse puzzles with backtracking to unlock new areas), but make a new game.

I don’t think rebooting the franchise or remaking the first is the way to go. We already have a fantastic REmake. I want to see them translate that fundamental design into a next-gen classic feeling RE game that involves Umbrella and B.O.W.s again. I want a next-gen Tyrant but elevated to something nuts.

gold_drake572d ago (Edited 572d ago )

i think if anything they could reboot 5 and 6, or code Veronica, or the outbreak games.

1-3 dont need more additional stuff.

Hopefully back to what made 7 so good, cause 8 went in the complete opposite direction and idk why

Sephiroushin572d ago

What are you talking about?
RE8 is more in the line with RE4, which is probably why it feels it went on the opposite direction, after all RE4 is on of the most popular RE (i know popular doesn't translate to better but they are running a business so they will choose where they have better profit), and also RE8 is being received pretty well, it has sold 7m @1.5 years, has not been ps+, gamepass, bundles etc; they are developing a 3rd person just to reach those who don't want it because it is a 1st person which I personally know a few of them ...
I loved 7 probably more than 8 but yea its what it is.

Kakashi Hatake573d ago (Edited 573d ago )

That sucks, I was hoping she would be the main character in RE9. Maybe they can do a side project with her then ? Seems like a waste to have a time skip for nothing.

Eternal Darkness was way ahead of its time especially for a Nintendo exclusive.

I would love to see a remake or sequel (multiplatform)

Ristul93d ago

This Feature Makes Lethal Company Scarier Than Resident Evil

Games like Lethal Company end up scary because of their freeform nature, while Resident Evil's polish and storytelling ultimately make them rather tame in comparison. Agree or disagree?
