NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 "Ada Lovelace" Graphics Card Launched 4X Faster Than RTX 3090

This card will definitely keep your room hot. Better invest in a 850W-1000W power supply

And just like that here comes the misinformation and clickbait headlines.

First and foremost they said 3090 ti.

Secondly, the comparisons were in Ray Tracing, not rasterization which they didn't specify at all.

They said 2x in Microsoft Flight Sim (clearly with Ray Tracing)
3x faster in Portal RTX
4x faster in Racer RTX (a game custom-made for RTX 4000).

So this is the first real Ray Tracing GPU that IMO achieves what the RTX 2000 initially wanted to standardize. But we have to wait for actual reviews before we get pure Rasterization performance.

The 4090 even at $1,599 seems like a deal when compared to the GOD AWFUL price of the RTX 4080 16GB and even the fake RTX 4080 12GB (aka what should have been the 4070 ti). While the performance gains seem to be great and on par with rumors, EVGA and all the leaks confirm that NVIDIA is a trash company when it comes to ethics.

Totally agree with you re: ethics but in all these comparisons they're comparing DLSS 3.0 (which creates every other frame in between the last two rendered frames) to either older DLSS or to without DLSS at all. So that's the trick they're using (not ray-tracing) that's causing these huge leaps in performance that they're claiming. It will also inevitably cause a bit of latency because the in-between frames are calculated from the 2 most recently rendered frames and stuffed between them. In a super slow game like MS Flight Sim it will probably be ideal but it definitely won't be ideal for any competitive games or games struggling with high latency at low FPS in the first place(like the Cyberpunk example they are using).

It's a super neat trick that will probably be great in some of the games that end up supporting it but it's super disingenuous to claim this is a 2-4x improvement gen on gen.

@crimsonldol

Yeah my comment was yesterday before they posted the charts to their page which is why I added stuff to the 4080 2x post on n4g.

It looks like in pure rasterization the 4090 is around 50% - 70% faster than the 3090ti depending on the game, which is still a good leap, and might end up around 60% / up to 2x once drivers are optimized and if SER actually helps games by "up to 25%" in rasterization alone. But at launch, it's 50% - 70% and they should be held to the flames for constantly pulling this kind of crap generation after generation like PC gamers are stupid and like there won't be tech teardowns as soon as they release the cards to the public / reviewers.

Digital Foundry has already got one.

They said 2x-4x that is way too big of a range odds are they have 1 or 2 tech demos that can hit 4x but most games will only be 2-2.5x. People forget Nvidia has always exaggerated claims in their showcases. They originally said the 3080 was 2x the performance of a 2080 but benchmarks after launch showed on average it was 68% better. They also claimed the 3090 was an 8k gaming GPU but most games couldn't hit 30FPS without DLSS. Im sure the cards will be nice but not as nice as they claim.

CrimsonIdol582d ago

yeah, they're cheating. DLSS 3.0 has frame interpolation between actual rendered frames and they're either comparing DLSS 3.0 to 2.0 or in some cases comparing DLSS 3.0 to without DLSS.
Like the frame interpolation might be cool and all but apples to apples it's definitely not 2-4x faster

Never under understand their lack of interest in power efficiency which is the thing AMD went all in.
I'm not into these high end cards but why are we still into these power hungry portable heater cards that needs 500W+ power supply in 2022-2023?
AMD shows it can be done.
Nvidia ridiculous claims are as usual, Ridiculous there's a reason both Sony and Microsoft went with AMD and never looked back for their consoles and Nvidia damn near sabotaged PS3 with their weak ass GPU they claimed was amazingly powerful in 2005.
CELL was really held back by Nvidia GPU so much so that they have to offload lots of the task to one of CELL's SPUs to handle graphics rendering in many of the late gen PS3 games.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

I think if used correctly it could work well
