Will likely be an AIB card for me, 4080 should put performance levels 80% above the consoles seeing as they are roughly 3060Ti level or even a bit below.

--Onilink--1013d ago

Given the numbers that have been leaked compared to the 3000 series + the big jump with Ryzen 7000 series too, I honestly would not be surprised if its bigger.

In the end it mostly goes towards better RT and significantly higher FPS, but still though, this next gen for PC is looking pretty great, hopefully there are no significant scalping problems this time

_SilverHawk_1013d ago

I cant wait to buy the 4090 first day. Hopefully it won't be as hard as when I bought my 3090. I cant wait to see the performance of the card

ZycoFox1013d ago

Ya, only concern is Nvidia chose a lower tier chip this time for the 80 class card, well supposedly. Still rumoured to be a big jump though. I guess there will be more of a gap between it and the 4090 this time if true.

bunt-custardly1013d ago

Ahh bloody heck, you just jinxed it now!

MadLad1013d ago

@silverhawk

Unless you do a lot of editing, you really ripped yourself off with the 3090.
There was only about a 10% gain over the 3080, but at twice the price.
And the 3080 is a beast of a card as is.

Getting the highest end Nvidia card just to game is almost always a dumb decision.

Bobertt1013d ago (Edited 1013d ago )

According to Moore's Law is Dead who leaks a lot of GPU and CPU stuff. NVIDIA should have more supply at launch than last time because they had to delay the release because of the oversupply of 3000 series GPUs in the market. So he says they should have 1-2 months of extra supply built up for the launch than last time. But he says there is a chance they just paper launch the 3080 around Nov-Dec and fully release it early next year.

I agree, I can't wait to get this card

masterfox1013d ago

GPU performance above consoles doesn't mean anything if there is no game to demonstrate that, PC gamers haven't seen a generational visual gap from consoles to PC since 2007 Crysis(seriously prove me wrong and NO res or framerate jump is not a generational gap), that was the real time(and years before) when somebody consider to upgrade a GPU card and it was worth it imo, but today there is literally no exclusive PC game that you can say is the most impressive thing ever seen, I am rocking a 1060 gtx 6 GB and Im more than happy, sometimes I consider to upgrade my card today just for the sole reason "oh look GPUs are getting almost MSRP" , but then I ask my self why should I buy really?, what game is outhere that can push this card?, and the answer is always this: is just a waste o money at the moment, also look at some Playstation games that were released some years ago are now releasing in Steam, those are at the moment the best looking games?, look at the status review: "overwhelmingly positive" Status(not even Forza or RDR 2 have this status) , so where is this so called PC games that are above everything?, what are you gonna say "oh it has greater resolution and higher detail", lol go and see the comparison between PC and PS Exclusives and tell if that's worth 1000 dlls upgrade card ;), so the question again is it worth such an expensive GPU purchase?, for me an absolute NO imo.

MadLad1013d ago

If you insist.
All I have to say is I have a great PC, and both current gen consoles as well.
I sure as hell don't view my consoles as my preferred way to game.

ZycoFox1013d ago

I was not sold on Crysis personally, i know people liked it but it didn't even perform that great even with higher end hardware at the time. I honestly enjoyed Return to Castle Wolfenstein more for its single player and multiplayer, and then Half Life 2 in 2004, now that was certainly a game worth building a new PC for IMO anyway.

There is more to it than resolution and detail, obviously the frame rates would be quite a lot higher. I do agree there's very few titles that would really push even a upper end 3000 series card these days, i wouldn't say the same about a 1060 though. Guess it depends if you're playing not very demanding games at lower detail and at 1080p.

Bobertt1013d ago

Depending on the game higher frame rate does make a big difference. Play at 60fps and then try 144fps and you will notice a difference. Plus on pc you can add mods that stress the GPU more and can also make a big difference.

Giblet_Head1013d ago

Quite a bit lower, try somewhere between a 2060 and 2070.

Should go nicely with either with a 4k high refresh rate or a 1440/240hz display. Let’s just hope stock is less scarce this time.

ZycoFox1013d ago

I would certainly go for a high hz display. Big difference in smoothness over 60hz, 4k screens have gotten much better in terms of response time within the last couple of years too if you decide to get one of those.

FinalFantasyFanatic1012d ago

There's not many great 4K monitors to choose from, I've been sticking with the same high end 1440p monitor for about 7 or 8 years now. Plus, I'll wait for Display Port 2.0 as well as HDMI 2.1 4K monitors.

1013d ago
MadLad1013d ago

People looking to upgrade or make a new build really should wait for the 4x series at this point.

Parts are more readily available, and prices are dropping now that we are experiencing the crypto crash. You shouldn't have to expect needing to pay a grand or over for a solid card, and the 3x series is now somewhat dated.

Father__Merrin1013d ago

This thing is only worth it if you need it for imaging and editing. If you play guardians of galaxy on a 1080ti and 4080 what's the difference apart from resolution and fps

Shiore2u1013d ago (Edited 1013d ago )

By that logic there's no difference to the PS4 and PS5. They both play games, so same experience. What are you doing driving that car? You only need horse and carriage. What's the difference really besides speed and lifespan?

Father__Merrin1012d ago

Il repeat again Guardian of Galaxy fairly new game. What's the difference in gameplay and visuals from 1080ti and 4080? Is there a generational leap or anything or merely bump in resolution and fps? 2k 60fp v 4k 60fps the 4080 will not give you new assets

I feel this is just a stop gap until their own dedicated portable, or the release of their next console/PC.

Indeed.

With it's light weight version of windows, ergonomic controls, gaming performance, and open system with multiple store launchers, it may be the best handheld on the market. This device is more pro consumer instead of a handheld that just plays Xbox games.

If my cash wasn't so tight this year I would be looking to pick up one at or around launch and I have no issues recommending it to any gamer as long as it is within their price range.

PapaBop3d ago

Pro consumer? Have you seen the rumoured price for it? At that price and using an LCD panel, pro consumer is not the words I'd use to describe it.

DivineHand1253d ago

So for you if it had an OLED screen but stay in a closed walled off software ecosystem, that would be pro consumer?

This is for the people who want an ergonomic handheld with as much power they could possibly get without compromising the battery life. It also gives you the ability to connect to your own display or an external GPU for those with the budget. What I love about it the most is that you have multiple competing store fronts so you can shop around for the best prices for your games.

BeHunted3d ago

Agree to disagree. This would open up a new era of Windows Handheld gaming devices: a cut down version of Windows with no bloatware, with hundreds of gaming clients.

crazyCoconuts3d ago

"cut down version of Windows without bloatware"
No such thing exists. Temper your expectations... Windows launching straight into the Xbox app.

mkis0073d ago

It doesn't play all xbox games though. It plays pc games, meaning if you don't have play anywhere titles, you have to buy them again.

DivineHand1253d ago

Right now that is a small inconvenience as the play anywhere program is not perfect.

You have to consider that it is offering something that no one else is doing for a large number of titles. That small nitpick should not count against this device and we as gamers should support moves like this.

crazyCoconuts3d ago

Would you still consider this pro consumer if you learned this is just MS' way of telling you there won't be any more consoles, just PCs?

DivineHand1252d ago

If it means I won't have to pay any subscription fees for online gaming I would say yes to that.
