Many have tried and failed to recreate the experience that FromSoftware so expertly crafts in their games. Thymesia by OverBorder Studio is yet another entry into the Soulslike sub-genre.
Soulslikes are punishingly difficult but amongst the most compelling games. Power Up Gaming goes through the top ten Soulslikes you're likely not playing.
Demon's Souls isn't Soulslike. It's the original Souls game. WTF? And Elden Ring?
Another Crab's Treasure simply is not.
All the journos claiming things are "Soulslike" simply don't know what that word means.
Nioh 1+2 imo are the best souls clone. Love the melee combat and ki system, really hoping team ninja doesn't abandon the IP and continue with a new title, hell just give us your take on the western fantasy setting for a new nioh game.
Daily Video Game writes: "For a limited time, dozens of select games are on sale at Amazon with decent discounts across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch platforms, ranging from action-adventure games to simulation titles!"
COGConnected spoke to the team behind Thymesia. Specifically about how Thymesia's combat transcends the souls formula.
"Now, rather than heading off to complain about it in a review, I would usually decide to go back and do some levelling up. Unfortunately, this was not an option as I realised that I had dropped down into this area. There was a shortcut back to where I had come from, but it appeared I had missed this, and it could only be opened from the way in. You also can’t fast travel between Beacons for some reason (the areas aren’t linked together, once you’ve completed them you travel back to the hub, so why can’t you go between Beacons, especially since there are sub-quests to explore too?). So, I was stuck with only three of the lowest-level enemies in the accessible area. In other words, it would take me hours to level up enough to take on Odur at a reasonable level."
I would of ended the memory which I believe you can do anytime and ran the level again which I had to do because I rushed through a section and ended up blocked in an area where I hadn't opened the shortcut door.
"but it has ended up falling more in line with Dark Souls II" funny how people still give Dark Souls 2 a bad rep even though the game added a lot of stuff that now can be seen in Elden Ring.
I finished Thymisia hours ago it's a fun game and anyone who enjoyed Sekiro will enjoy it. Sure it has fallen in some aspects, But talking to anyone who played Souls games and tried Thymesia and they will tell you it's a good game.
7/10 for me.
I’m having a great time with it. My bow is so over powered I’m almost one hit killing most enemies with it. It’s definitely more Sekiro than Souls.I only paid $22 for it so I’m not going to complain much. 7/10 for me.
Lol I get the feeling this guy broke a controller or two. This game is hard anyone who says it's not is a liar. There's three difficulties hard. Harder, and hardest lol.
It's a good game for sure. Has some minor flaws like parry detection can be off at times. Camera is a bit wonky can get stuck or be slow. But despite these flaws the game is addicting and fun. If you like souls games you owe it to yourself to play it and decide for yourself. I'll tell you this it's way better than pascals wager.
Pro tip: to beat odur it's all about your parry and feathers. Time it right he goes down easier. Also he's very weak to plague weapon twin blades.
