The Last Of Us Part I Remake Footage And Screenshots Leaked

While the price tag for the game is on the steep side, it's certainly a must-buy for those that have never experienced The Last of Us Part I.

Knushwood Butt615d ago

Looking forward to experience this again with 3D audio and Dualsense.

abstractel614d ago (Edited 614d ago )

Here's my biggest issue with this remake. Naughty Dog is behind the remake, meaning they used their own resources. They are a big team now, so they can work on Factions at the same time. However, I would have much rather seen the resources spent on the remake go to a new game. This applies even to whatever amount of outsourcing as that's part of most AAA development these days (including TLOU2). It takes away from the focus that could have been applied to a new game (preferably a single-player game for my preferences).

Edit: I do think leaks suck unless there's some evidence the developer is lying about something which is not the case here.

A brand new game would take a lot longer than a remake/remaster

PapaBop614d ago

I'd rather they treat such a classic with the love and attention it deserves. Look at what is happening with the KOTOR remake as an example of what happens when you fob it off and outsource it.

Kurt Russell614d ago

When starting a new project you do not need to entire studio immediately on development. There are artists and programmers at the company that can be kept busy and profitable remaking a game like this, whilst simultaneously beginning pre-production of any new venture with a smaller core team. It helps keep people employed and developing skills during project gaps.

mike32UK614d ago (Edited 614d ago )

They're obviously using this as a short development project to get to grips with the PS5. I'll be getting this even if I don't think it should be a £70 release as all of NDs games have earnt my loyalty and money isn't an issue for me luckily. I would have rather they did a smaller title as a new IP though something Uncharted: The Lost Legacy size

70 clams for dualsense and 3d audio! Lol!

I'll pick this up when it hits the appropriatly priced 19.99 price point.

strifeblade614d ago

I'll pick this up when it goes 4.99

Knushwood Butt614d ago

Who said anything about 70 clams? I can actually pre-order this for the equivalent of 52 USD where I am, which according to CS7 above, is what this game is worth.

zsquaresoff614d ago

"must-buy for those that have never experienced The Last of Us Part I."
It's a must buy for anyone who wants to feel all the emotions, both high and low, all over again.

MIDGETonSTILTS17614d ago

… all over again for a fourth time. :/

dekke614d ago

@MIDGETonSTILTS17

u prolly mean 3rd time ? :P

Pyrofire95614d ago

@dekke It would be a fourth time for me. I've played through 3 times. I don't really care to go again.

Visceral89614d ago

@dekke People who got all the trophies on ps3 and ps4, this could be their 10 plus time.

kayoss614d ago

If you bought it 4 times, thats on you. "must-buy for those that have never experienced The Last of Us Part I." What part of that didnt you and everyone who criticize this remake/remaster dont understand?

MinnesotaFatts614d ago

Four times? Really? Only? Feels like a lot more.

mike32UK614d ago

This'll be my like my 20th playthrough of Part 1

I am looking forward to getting the platinum

Aloymetal614d ago

Same here, I got the plat for TLOU2 but never for the first one so this will be a good opportunity.

Visceral89614d ago

I like looking at the 0.4% completion for the ps4 platinum, knowing I have it.

outsider1624614d ago

Best thing is you can now get the platinum without the online trophies. Man..getting the platinum on the original was frustrating..especiallly the online trophies.

repsahj614d ago

to hell with the price tag! I want to play it now! And yes i played the ps4 remake.

Elda614d ago

As you should because you can.

JackBNimble614d ago

Ps4 remaster which is what this is all over again at the price point of a new game.

repsahj614d ago

yeah sorry, what I ment is PS4 remaster.

clouds5614d ago

I really hope they don't change anything. The game was more or less perfect the way it was in terms of story. The characters, the relationships, the world and especially the tone. I will buy it if they keep the story as original as possible. If they add additional scenes, or even change things, trying to make the different tone of the second part a better fit I'm not interested and I'd rather play the PS4 version again.

MIDGETonSTILTS17614d ago

Part 2 fit with Part 1 perfectly…

MrVux000614d ago (Edited 614d ago )

If you ignore certain character retcons thru-ought the part 2, and story retcons (like the prologue part with the hospital flashback, where fireflies are portrayed like martyr saints, to the hospital looking a lot different overall (not connected to the HW constraints), to music and close ups portraying Joel as a bloodthirsty psychopath ... etc

Yea, Part 2 fits Part 1 perfectly ... if you never played Part 1 or simply never cared much for minute details in characters from the first game.

Imalwaysright614d ago

MrVux000

I see that you got disagrees for telling the truth but I want to see if someone will dare to say why they clicked the disagree button and try to refute what you said.

isarai614d ago

@MrVux000 and Imalwaysright

I disagree, they weren't "retconed" into looking like a martyr. It was simply the other side of the story, and fits the world perfectly. Everyone is kinda garbage, but they are all doing what they can to help the ones they're close to, often through immoral actions, but the world if effed so it's whatever to them. I find most people with this criticism accidentally seen Joel as the altruistic hero, he wasn't, he was a terrible person who just found someone he wanted to protect and was willing to doom the world to do that. Then the fireflies are just bigger versions of that, or did we forget the several missions of going out and killing dozens of people who were trying to scavenge resources on their turf?

Imalwaysright614d ago

isarai

The "other side of the story" whose events Joel himself is describing to his brother? This person went into detail as to how the ending of the original was undeniably retconned so have fun reading it https://www.reddit.com/r/Th...

-Foxtrot614d ago

@ Imalwaysright

The sad thing is it’s a beautiful well written break down and people won’t be bothered to read it

Is funny because it’s always

“You guys are just mad because they killed Joel”

Yet when there’s a perfect breakdown like that Reddit post going into detail people will dismiss it and say it’s stupid

I say give it a read guys and see the obvious changes and retcons Neil did for Part II to force his story

MIDGETonSTILTS17613d ago

I never understand the references to “retcons” and “changing Joel” in Part 2….

Joel was a killer turned savior in Part 1. If you missed that, that’s understandable, it means the story succeeded at humanizing Joel. But Joel was NOT perfect by any stretch, and he was VERY selfish, like virtually everyone else in that world.

He was a monster based on the ending alone, at the very least, among plenty of other details…

…. So what was retconned?

MIDGETonSTILTS17613d ago (Edited 613d ago )

I read the Reddit posts, both of them, and I still wholeheartedly disagree with any accusations of retconning.

I’m not sure the author knows what “retconning” is. A true “retcon” changes EVERYTHING about a premise, or at least turns it sideways. For instance, imagine if Part 2 was all about how Ellie was a figment of Joel’s imagination in Part 1.

That would be a “retcon”.

Instead, Part 1’s brief ending left a bunch of details ambiguous, such as Ellie’s reaction to the lie, the politics of the fireflies’ decision to operate, as well as the repercussions of Joel’s choice(s).

Clarifying those ambiguities is a NOT a retcon, that is just clarifying what was left intentionally unclear at that juncture…. In other words, all of those what-ifs left for fans to chew on (would Ellie be mad at Joel? Will the fireflies die off after Salt Lake?), the authors simply finally made those answers definitive.

Since the ending of Part 1 was so good, with plenty of people having a variety of predictions, it makes sense that about half of the people had their expectations bucked (ie they were wrong.).

But that bucking for 50% of us was inevitable. Most of us did not have the same reaction to Part 1’s ending, so we’re also bound to react differently to Part 2’s resolutions for Part 1.

The devs aren’t retconning anything when their follow-up story doesn’t align with your PREDICTIONS, they are just letting you know that your predictions were wrong.

It’s not your story, it’s none of ours, so we need to all be more open to the story not unfolding how we GUESSED.

Joel was not a saint. Some of us knew that throughout Part 1, especially after the ending, but some people forgot this fact.

If your takeaway was “Joel good, fireflies bad”, then I honestly don’t think you paid enough attention to the whole world, not just Joel’s surface actions.

If anything, we all agree with Joel’s choice, but about half of us can’t see how that inevitable choice is still an evil decision (and shows ALL of us our own potential for evil, too).

Imalwaysright613d ago

MIDGETonSTILTS17

You don't understand because you don't know what a retcon is.

retcon: "a piece of new information that imposes a different interpretation on previously described events, typically used to facilitate a dramatic plot shift or account for an inconsistency."

Now that you know what a retcon is, there is no excuse for you to say that ending of the original wasn't retconned unless of course if you want to pretend that you are ignorant. The ending was undoubtedly retconned and that is not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact.

MIDGETonSTILTS17613d ago

@whoever

“imposes a different interpretation”

New information was given to solidify one guess for Part 2 being right over the other, but that info didn’t CHANGE anything; because what was clarified wasn’t known at all before, and instead was ambiguous (ie not married to any single interpretation). They answer unknowns, like making the doc a father, but what was NEW that CHANGED? The doc being a father was ambiguous, not known either way, for example.

So, what CHANGED, and what retcon did the changing?

You seem to dodge those details, please focus on them.

For me, you seem to be mistakening your own interpretations as gospel facts, when they were left ambiguous by Part 1 intentionally (ie Joel was NOT a good guy). Nothing changed from Part 1.

Imalwaysright613d ago

??? They literally changed the identity of the head surgeon into Abby's father and you're telling me that the ending wasn't retconned? The conditions of the surgery room? The different expression that Ellie had wich means that she perceived what Joel told her in a different way? Are you kidding me?

MIDGETonSTILTS17612d ago

@whomever

They didn’t CHANGE the doctor into a dad, that part was left undefined.

Hence, not a retcon.

And they did not change Ellie’s expression. That moment is my favorite part of every game, I’ve seen it half a dozen times; and it is the same thematic moment in every version. They do update the graphics to better depict the original motion capture (which NEVER changes), but that is a far cry from changing the ending.

People like you who insist that the motion capture is being retconned are the same people who sent Skyler’s actress hate mail because they were swept up my Walt’s charisma; they were both bad men, and this anger of yours is just you rebelling against reality with your own PERSONAL INTERPRETATION.

Plenty of evidence supports the direction of the story throughout, some people just insist on only seeing what fits their immediate perspective and hopes.

Nothing is different except the graphics and character models. As well as some improved controls. The story will not be changed at all.

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast84d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs81d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast81d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs80d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast80d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer84d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing6984d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs81d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing6981d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger129d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt2384d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid129d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast128d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
