The two brands that have defined the Metroidvania genre: Metroid and Castlevania. These two behemoths have transformed the action platformer genre in such a way that journalists and fans dubbed this specific type of action platformer, with progressive powerups and a non-linear approach, as the Metroidvania genre. But which one wears it better? Jason Capp is here with the breakdown.
Metroid Prime 4 supports mouse aiming with the new and revamped Joy-Cons on Switch 2.
I been asking this for long time and nintendo is about to make all fps a mouse standard game, I hope
It can be played like a real PC shooter when you’ll soon be able to emulate it on an actual PC lol
The final Nintendo Switch 1 Direct just gave us our best look yet at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond—and it’s stunning. But here’s the big question: Is this actually a Switch 2 game? Join the NVC crew as they break down the new trailer, analyze Samus’ psychic abilities and the jungle planet Viewros, and debate whether this is a cross-gen release or a last-minute upgrade for Nintendo’s next console.Plus, we’ll discuss why Metroid Prime 4’s long development cycle (and lack of a release date) has us suspicious. Is Nintendo holding it back for the Switch 2? Or is this truly the Switch 1’s final masterpiece?
Metroid prime 4 looks so dated and bland. I hate it when fanatics can't be objective because it sends the wrong message about what's good so Nintendo continues down the same wrong path. The short gameplay of metroid I've seen is enough to convince me that the game is rubbish and not worth full price. Im hoping Nintendo doesn't continue with low quality and bland looking games for the switch 2 and only relying on games brand name to sell. The switch 2 is a new generation where it's possible to have very powerful handhelds or midrange handhelds that can handle modern games with very good performance. Switch 2 shouldn't have games that resemble switch 1 games or even have performance issues like switch 1. I've seen a lot of games on ps3 that looks a lot better than metroid prime 4 and the ps3 was released 20 years ago.
It's not a Switch 2 game it's a Switch 1 game. It will be a cross gen game like BOTW was. Switch 2 version will have better framerate, resolution and texture filtering.
I wasn't really excited by the trailer editing and no solid date given but the gameplay looks great and environments look super atmospheric. Retro doing wonders on the Switch again.
"it's stunning"
LOL the bar is really REALLY low for Nintendo. Stunning, sure...for 2010!
10 years gone by without a new Castlevania title. Now that Konami is considering stuff other than Pachinko, this series deserves a new game.
It’s more than about time it’s way overdue. Please make a 2D Castlevania with item/armor/weapon collectibles and transmog as this is the one series my wife will play but it has to have item collecting or she will skip it.
"What is a name? A miserable little pile of letters."
Seriously, the games in the From Software's Soulsborne series are the best 3D Castlevania games we will ever get. From Bloodborne to Elden Ring, Konami will never approach that level of quality and give Castlevania its due respect. EVER! "Enough talk, call yourself a Belmont in the Character Creator, HAVE AT YOU!" Without question.
As for a new 2D entry? I mean, sure, why not? What the hell, right? It's about damn time indeed.
easy: it is a tie.
Love them both. I love the sci-fi action and the mystery of Metroid with alien life forms and ancient civilizations. But also love Castlevania that has the classic themes of characters, horror and religious themes and symbols.
I'd give Castlevania the amount of weapon options though. But give Samus the nod on physical abilities.
I wouldn't be able to choose. Both have amazing games and both have had missteps. But I can't complain.
Edit: also, for those looking for a good Metroidvania, don't sleep on The Mummy Demastered videogame. Was surprised how good and fun it was. And not even connected to The Mummy movie franchise.
It’s Metroid, hands down. Way back when castlevania was just a linear sides scroller where you go from point a to point b. Metroid on the other hand was about exploration, trail and error, and having the right power ups to progress through the game. Metroid formula was adopted by Castlevania with Simons Quest, and a few others. They are both great franchises, but Metroid, for me, has this one.
Personally overall I like Castlevania better . The 2D games since NES to 3DS are the best .I love the first few Metroids Super Metroid but I’m not into the 3D games of either Metroid or Castlevania , they aren’t bad but not nearly as good imo. Dread was pretty good but those robots got boring after awhile and more annoying than anything . I definitely give the edge to Castlevania with 1/2/3/4 Aria of Sorrow , Mirror of Fate , Order of Ecclesia etc etc .
Personally, I love Castlevania more than Metroid. One of the Castlevania games on NES (maybe 2 or 3? Can't quite remember) was my first, but Symphony of the Night is by far my favorite. The GBA and DS Titles are also really good, but SotN just has a special place in my heart.
Metroid, I have played a few but never really cared for them. Dread is the most recent one I played and I thought it was alright but I only played it for a few hours before sending it back to GameFly.
