Embracer confirms studio switch for ‘AAA project’, following claims of KOTOR trouble

From VGC: "Embracer Group may have confirmed that the upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has switched developers.

Bloomberg claimed last month that developer Aspyr Media had stopped working on the game and that the future of the title was up in the air.

Embracer had confirmed in May that Aspyr parent company Saber Interactive was also working on the game, and some of Bloomberg’s sources said they believed it was possible Saber had taken over the development of the project entirely."

Maybe Saber can turn things around

Mr_cheese471d ago

That worked well for Dunder Mifflin

Great... now i have that song in my head [Dunder Mifflin is a part of 'Sahbrey']

Another remake RPG changed developer, that of FFVII Remake. The game was well-received so hopefully this shift to Saber Interactive leading development signals a desire at the highest level of Embracer Group & Sony to make the Star Wars KOTOR Remake be of superior quality.

good take your time and make this perfect

no game is perfect....not one.

I never understand how people botch rereleases and remasters/remakes.

It's like being an editor. Virtually all the work was done for you. All you need to do is clean it up and make it more digestible.

RaidenBlack471d ago

That's Remastering.
But for Re-'make'-ing ... only the story and design concepts can be used/referred ... everything else needs to be 'made' again.

MadLad471d ago

To an extent.
I won't even pretend to know the ins and outs of game development. I have amateur coding experience at best.

But even on the coding side, as long as it's written in the same language, which virtually every marketed game is, the code can be dumped and used as a reference point for a remake in a new engine. You just need to know the pros and cons of both engines, and adjust accordingly. That's a lot of work taken off of the needs of the coders.
As far as I've seen they're looking to keep the gameplay similar to the original, so a lot of the code made for the original can be reused and adjusted to whatever standards they want for the remake.

It's different in situations such as FF7 Remake, where virtually everything was fundamentally changed; from gameplay to being fully 3D.

But I guess my point is if you're a "games studio" whose talent can't handle a remake/remaster properly, maybe you should question if your team actually has the talent to be a games studio.

CrimsonWing69471d ago

I’m not trying to take a dig at you or make you feel dumb, but do you know the difference between a Remake and Remaster? Because it doesn’t sound like you do at all.

CorndogBurglar471d ago

A remake is when they literally remake the game from the ground up.

A remaster is what you're talking about, where they use existing assets and code and make the original version "better".

DragonWarrior19471d ago

Wasn't Saber running the Witcher 3 current gen port and was taken off of that abruptly? Doesn't seem very wise to give it to them.

RaidenBlack471d ago

That was a smaller studio under Saber's Russian division. The Russo invasion caused CDPR to sieze any business with Saber's Russian division.
And Saber is a pretty big company and is headquarted in Florida. And their offices are spead out all over NA and EU.

wow... had no idea they were getting that deep into acquisitions. Hopefully they crank out more new ideas on some old classics.

Still remember my old 14" TV with the Atari sticker I had on it, haha... The sticker came with Unreal Tournament 2004 and I just had to slap that bad boy on my enormous beast of a display.

I would like to see Atari getting back into the gaming scene though. We could use some old blood stepping back into the ring these days.

QuantumMechanic1d 18h ago

But this "Atari" is just a holdings company that bought the Atari name many years ago. They have no relation to the original company.

darthv721d 17h ago

the Atari of old is long gone. This new Atari is looking to resurrect the image while also embracing modern / retro vibes.

The current official price for the Series S in Brazil is R$3,599. During the last Black Friday, many retailers like Amazon and a local one called Kabum sold the PS5 Disc for R$3,440. The latter reported that they sold the equivalent of the height of 10 Eiffel Tower of PS5 consoles on Black Friday which people are speculating is somewhere between 3k - 7k per tower or 30k to 70k PS5 sold by one single retailer during the sale period.

Meanwhile no news about sales of the Xbox Series X or S. The latter did get into a sale as well, but the sales price was still 25% higher than the price that the console was commonly found before the price hike. Whereas the Series X did not get any significant deals during the period.

Before the price hike and the sales, the PS5 had 18% whereas the Xbox Series had 14% of the Brazilian gaming market (PGB report 2023). But I'm curious to see how the numbers will be for the 2024 report.

So does Phil want Brazilians to get ps5?

Dabigsiebowski1d 16h ago

Frankly I wouldn't want to touch the Brazilian market myself. Female players have been murdered because of gaming over there. The country has a huge issue with handling masculinity online way more so than anywhere else.

I'd gtfo of any association with that sorta terrorism.
