John Biggs writes "Welcome to CrunchGear's Gala Best of 2008 Awards featuring the Best Gear, Gadgets, and Software of 2008. Best of all, we tallied your responses and collated them in the People's Choice awards. Now that I'm wearing my tux, let's get right to the awards.
Best Game, Cross Platform
Left 4 Dead
Really, does Valve do anything wrong? You and three friends running for your lives against a horde of debt collectors zombies while The Director toys with your pointless existence. Multi-player gaming at its best.
As for the People's Choice, y'all sure do like beating up hookers and driving into helpless pedestrians, don't you? We wouldn't call the game perfect-really, no analog control of Niko? Mario had that in 1996!-but it's certainly a fun, mindless romp, at least for a little while."
Ayi Sanchez: "Old work. I did this 10 years ago now as part of a material test for a remaster of Gears of War 2 that never happened."
Weird, in mean they had no studios to make anything really new so there's a part of me thats kinda glad they scrapped it. If they released this back then it would of gotten ridiculed for remakes and remastering stuff. Now they have new and interesting games so the collection is harmless.
Geez, Xbox, something like that I would’ve bought Day 1. Great business decisions over there.
I can only assume the the Gears of War Remaster flopped so they decided to scrap the other remakes?
Seems short sighted to me as I really enjoyed the 1st remaster. Regardless, I'll snap up some remakes to play on my PS5.
All of the Super Smash Bros. games are incredible, but which one stands as the mightiest of them all and has the best modes?
To me smash brows Melee is my all time favorite. I can't tell you how many hours I played that game between friends and family. When I was a kid, my parents couldn't afford a gaming console so I had to go somewhere that had an arcade like setup with the only difference being instead of arcade cabinets, they had big screen crt TV's and gaming consoles setup. I would go with my friends on special occasions after school or with my family on the weekends.
I would meet and make new friends at that place as we were all gamers and we also brought our game boys and would trade pokemon. I don't think those places exist these days but back then, it was easy to meet like-minded people and have fun for hours.
Well, I’ll add my extremely subjective ranking too. I won’t include the 3DS version as I don’t owned it. I did play it for a few minutes though.
5. Brawl.
4. N64 Smash
3. Ultimate
2. Wiiu Smash
1. Melee
Sakurai's views on cutscenes (and how quickly they'll be shared online) haven't really changed that much in 16 years.
Good choices.Gears Of War 2 was my Xbox 360 Game Of The Year, and my PS3 Game Of The Year would have to be either Resistance 2 or LittleBigPlanet.I can't wait to see what's in store for us next year.
I'm still completely confused about Left 4 Dead. Never in my life have I found it so difficult to understand what people see in such a universally loved game. The game is just the pinacle of "shallow" in my opinion. What does everybody see in it?
