I want to clarify that this is not old news.

Solitariussaint230d ago

Woah, looks good. Dreams is incredible.

EvertonFC230d ago (Edited 230d ago )

Dreams is great, I believe Sony missed a opportunity during the Pandemic by making Dreams f2p on playstation and/or PC.
I also believe this type of game/software tool would have been better being multiplatform on Xbox also.
Things like this need the most userbase to become what the Devs envisioned.

Solitariussaint229d ago

Eh, making Dreams playable online without a paywall is perfectly logical, all console games should be playable online without the need for a subscription just like it was during the PS2/ PS3 days.

What Sony should do is bundle Dreams with PS5, pre loading the game for free on every PS5 just like they did with Astro's Playroom.

PS5's have no trouble selling out, might as well add to Dream's player base for free, which would only increase player engagement with the PS4/PS5 ecosystem.

PlayStation has a much larger user base than Xbox, it's doubtful that the Xbox userbase would increase the playerpool of Dreams that much.

Couldn't agree more, especially the ;

"What Sony should do is bundle Dreams with PS5, pre loading the game for free on every PS5 just like they did with Astro's Playroom"

You don't need PS Plus to play Dreams online. How would Media Molecule make a profit from the bundle? Another solution is making the playing part free, but pay for the creation mode. Adding Multiplayer would also help. Btw I'm the creator of this Silent Hills game.

Akarogg 229d ago (Edited 229d ago )

They want to expand Dreams, add multiplayer, new feautures, not merely keep it on life support with a skeleton crew. If you're a Dreams fan this should excite you, yet upon hearing this you say you're "dissapointed they haven't moved on to a new IP instead" I've talked to a lot of Dreams fans and if you actually are one (which is hard to believe) you're the strangest one I've talked to yet.

Akarogg 229d ago

How would Media Molecule profit from making it free?

EvertonFC229d ago

I imagine the game didn't make profit with the long development and userbase so that's why I think they should have made it free when sales dried up long ago.
Like I said the Pandemic would have been perfect with gamers in lockdowns around the world and would have helped the creations etc alot more imo.

Akarogg 229d ago (Edited 229d ago )

That doesn't answer the question how they would make a profit. Dreams is still selling and they have recently moved into a bigger studio and hired way more people. They have also worked with a bunch of companies and activist groups in making Dreams content with them which has also made MM some money. I say some profit is better than no profit, which is what you seem to be suggesting.

The only thing I can think is they put it on the PS Plus mid tier, and Sony pays them however they pay any other dev. With dreams I don't know their income situation, if their revenue stream died out pretty quick with it's initial sales I could see them making more off of plus than they're currently making on the game itself, but again I don't really know what they're doing to bring money in otherwise.
(Obvious take is obvious,) but whichever option makes them more I'm down with, they're a good team that deserves to see their returns

EvertonFC229d ago

I get it fella, but some studios are there for the variety tick box. Mm are fantastic and I've supported all there games but they've never sold like I believe they should.
You have to remember they started work on dreams twds the end of the ps3 lifecycle ?
Btw didn't realise they moved into a new studio and more people, I wonder if that's the new rumoured PS Home

Akarogg 229d ago

What? MM working on PS Home? Never heard about that before. They're planting on expanding Dreams based on what I have heard.

EvertonFC229d ago

I think Mm would be perfect for ps home if rumours our true, having said that I'm disappointed if they haven't moved onto a new ip tbh.
Well at least they've moved studios and expanded staff as I was worried maybe Jim Ryan would close Mm

Akarogg 229d ago (Edited 229d ago )

Of course they haven't moved on to a new IP. You say Dreams is great, yet it's clear you don't care about it As the creator of this Silent Hills game I'm pretty offended by your lack of consideration. You don't know anything about Dreams, but that doesn't stop you from flapping your gums, idly trashing the furniture in the room. Just leave, this isn't the place for you.

EvertonFC229d ago

I bought dreams day1 and still play it every week, infact I'm one of the few who realises dreams potential like getting a 100 strong community working around the clock 24/7 365 days a year on one game they calibrate on in different time zones etc.
Dreams is great but what I'm saying is hasn't reached its potential like I'm sure Mm envisioned.
Why you're offended is baffling as I haven't said anything disrespectful and apologize if you feel that way.
All I'm saying is make it free and open dreams up to more gamers giving it those extra legs and support.
Mm can still support dreams with a smaller team while working in a new ip.
Anyway peace

EvertonFC229d ago

I think you're the strange one looking way to much into my comments. If you are a true Mm fan them surely you want them too make a new ip while also supporting dreams ? It won't take loads of staff to add MP (personally not into MP generally) and some other features like extra VR2 controller support etc.
I've put hundred if not thousands of hours into LBP 1-3 and plenty of game time with sackboy.
Do you think I'm some lying Mm fan or something fella ? I've bought all there games day1 and even got my non gamer friend who's a crazy artist who would be perfect for Mm (sadly he didn't get the job)
I'm not a hater dude which you seem to think o am? I'm a 46 year old gamer ffs who loves all things games ffs.
Anyway don't bother replying back as your one of these gamers who gets you're knickers in a twist over nothing so good day

Akarogg 229d ago (Edited 229d ago )

Why would you want a new IP? Dreams is an all in one package. MM can simply make a game in Dreams and release it there as they have done several times before. As a creator I want MM's focus where it matters. Implementing the new features takes the full attention of such a small studio. You're a little bit of everything type, a scatter brain. MM and the Dreams community is not. There are plenty of other IP's for you to consume.
