The Last of Us Part 1 PC port is launching "very soon" after the PS5 version

The Last of Us Part 1 should launch on PC “very soon” after the PS5 version, according to a developer involved with the remake.

Over the past weekend, senior environment texture artist Jonathan Benaino responded to a fan congratulating Naughty Dog on bringing The Last of Us Part 1 to PC and PS5. Writing back to the eager fan, Benaino revealed that the remake would be coming to PC “very soon after the PS5 release,” which is currently scheduled for September 2.

Cool! Here’s hoping the first time players of the game really love and feel the the emotions we all felt 9 years ago when experiencing this games raw power and emotional story storytelling, along with having a really fun and intense time with the gameplay on offer here.

I had a horrible time with this game on the OG PS3. Half the time it wouldn't even load and the locked 30FPS really killed it for me. Let my girl play it when it was released on the PS4, she loved it, and I helped with certain parts.

I'm happy the Playstation library is coming to PC, and this is a game I highly looking forward to.

I've enjoyed every Playstation exclusive so far, and this just looks to add to enjoyment of it.

Don't kid yourselves into thinking this will happen for all future PS5 exclusives. This is a remake and the HBO show plays a big factor into how quickly this will release on PC too.

They bought a new studio for PC ports, that much is true, but that timing of the PC releases is another matter altogether. Ask yourself why this is being released on PC before Returnal or Horizon FW, and then you might realise there is strategy to their timings. lmao

Lets look past the fact that only 5-7 (released and unreleased) out of 20+ PS4 exclusives are on PC.

Lets look past the fact that Jim Ryan's financial presentation on Playstation future states that only 25-30% of first party games will be on available on PC thru 2026, 20-25% on mobile and 50% will remain on PS5 thru 2026.

First party games will find their way towards PC, that much is given, since the change of management in the SONY HQ, prioritizing short term earnings over good PR. But even Herman Hulst noted that this will not be the case for all new first party games, and for those that have plans to be released, it will be 2 years at the minimum. In TLOU case, it will be near 10 years.

You create steam pages. Buy studios that literally existed basically to make PC ports. Start putting your biggest franchises on PC. And are now even delving into the PC gaming space when it comes to gaming monitors.

GoW, Horizon, Spiderman, Uncharted 4, all 4 years minimum. Days Gone being an exception, though Sony considered it a flop and exceptions will happen now and again anyway (perhaps for MP titles like Factions). Releasing those games on PC also has the added strategic benefit of potentially luring PC gamers to PS5 to play the sequels at launch rather than wait 4 more years for Ragnarok or Spiderman 2.

Yeah no problem. Sony release their exclusives on their consoles, they sell millions there, they put their games on sales, sell some more, eventually they reach a saturation point where the amount they are selling on console is negligible. At this point, years later, they release on PC to a new pool of players and are no longer competing with sales of their console version.

By doing this they can also gain extra sales from those console owners who may also be PC gamers willing to double dip. And it works, sales for Horizon and GoW have been impressive. It works so well in fact that Rockstar, a 3rd party, also love to do it (or did you think R* didn't have the funds to get a PC port released on time for GTAV or RDR2?)

If you were right, then TLOU remake would be releasing on PC the same day it releases on PS5. If it's really launching very soon after the PS5 version, then why can't they simply hold it back until they're both ready to launch? Can you justify that?

Dude it's over. It's not 4 years later. That is bringing old times, when consoles x360, ps3, ps4 sold like fish and chips and production of them was cost efficient, to a pc.

Today is a different story and you will see pc ports of new games in a year max.
They will not see console sale numbers but a couple million to make a port profitable will happen.

And that's great. What's wrong with that?

You will buy games on your platform of choice and give support and that's it.

But, but consoles will die... they will never die because $3-4k pcs are not interest and investment of many.

The remake isn't just for PC players and a few outliers. It's being distributed on Playstation first, but will be on PC shortly after.
There's no discount for someone who already bought the game once, or even twice.
The more we see of the game, the less work we actually see was put into it.
They acted like it was being entirely built from the ground up, but that's obviously not the case.
They want to see how many people they can get to triple dip, and apparently there's at least a few suckers.

Then you also want to say that Sony isn't fastly moving into the PC space, even though everything I said already says otherwise.

Sony isn't just about Playstation anymore, and they aren't as consumer friendly as they used to be. Either accept that and move forward, or acknowledge that and don't support them. These are just videogames.

I think most gamers who wanted to play it have already played it. Most PC gamers also have consoles from what I can tell.

Doesn't mean the remake isn't relatively low effort crap at a high cost.
People should buy it down the road on a 75% off sale and just go buy Remastered for $20 or under. It still plays great and is full featured.

It's a cash grab in general. The PC is a new market for them that they're obviously interested in, but most PC gamers own consoles. If you have a gaming PC, you probably also own something that could play some version of the game, and have already if you have any interest in this remake.

Lol by that standard every PC port is a cash grab. There are some people who ONLY play games on PC, or they have PC and only one console. For the PC only people, or PC/Xbox and PC/Switch people, Sony putting their games on PC is the only viable way to reach that audience.

I thought it was pretty crappy they put the original game right at the end of the generation; pushing the hardware above its means, then turning around and releasing the real version of the game right after the fact after people already bought it.

Now we have a "remake" of a game that just turned 9 years old that people are discovering didn't have a giant amount of extra work put into it. While the devs push the narrative like it has been built from the ground up so give us $70.

So two times with one title that Sony and Naughty Dog have been crappy, and now they're just milking an obvious classic.

Lol, you should be able to figure this out yourself. If Sony remade a popular game just for PC, that would get thrashed online for "abandoning their own console" and "favoring PC" and "becoming another third party." They've even caught flack for some of the recent PC ports that have come out for "the best version of their first party games being on PC." Imagine how much worse that would be if they had remade a 9-year-old game just for PC.

And no, they couldn't have just thrown the 8-year-old remaster version from PS4 and expected PC players to be perfectly happy with that.

The deal i got on a whole new rig was too good to pass up. Hundreds cheaper than anywhere else. I've future proofed it for a 4000 series card (which will undoubtedly be very pricey at launch) and already have two casual PC gamer mates lined up to buy the 3080 when i upgrade.

Pc getting another old game from sony. Goes in line with their strategy. Release old game for pc but sequel only available for playstation. Sony has actually confirmed pc never get exclusives the same time and they use em to lure pc players into plausyation service. You have old gow when sequel is coming out. Old spiderman when sequel is coming. First horizon when sequel came to ps5. I wouldnt cheer so much about pc having playstation exclusives, becouse it doesnt. In this case you can be happy about tlou 1 remaster becouse part 2 is horrible game.
