It does seem strange to me for a predominately online mp game.. WB are essentially acting like a sulking kid and taking their ball home. Even if the game is essentially in maintenance mode, I don't see why they can't keep it online still. If I was someone who invested heavily in the game and spent a ton all that MT junk, I'd be furious at what they are doing.

SDuck66d ago

been achivo hunting it lately. The servers are crap and it seems like it's an old issue they refused to resolve. Also, I'm guessing giving a good part of its budget to a popular NBA player so he could be a playable character wasn't a good idea

Multiversus Director Responds to Threats From the Community After Shutdown News

Multiversus director Tony Huynh has responded to threats made over the weekend after news of the game being shut down saying they are "crossing the line."

-Foxtrot79d ago

The thing about death threats is that it's something which is so awful but at the same time is never fully proven in the open. Like if I had a bunch of horrible trolls sending me death threats I'd name and shame them but no one ever does.

I'm not saying for this specific situation but it's getting to the point where it's starting to feel like when a studio, publisher or industry person is under fire they just have to causally mention death threats and everyone just slows down. The attention is taken away from the main issue and the fanbase turns against one another trying to find the bad eggs amongst themselves while gaming journalists have a field day s****ing on gamers telling people how how toxic they are. In the end it just comes off as a PR tactic to help them divert attention away from the main controversy.

Death threats are sad to see but take that away from his statement and you see how awful response actually is.

At the end of the day people just highlight what a small amount of people are doing to dodge any accountability.

Fishy Fingers79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

Absolutely agreed.... Death threats can be fine and justified because more often than not, theyre nothing more than threats. I mean some times theyre not. But more often than not. It's a PR tactic...

F*** me bro..... Jesus.

I feel like you're twisting this and missing my point. You're coming across like I've said every single time this happens it's fake or something which is not what I was saying. I mentioned it 'sometimes' comes across like that because when it happens it's usually linked up to a controversy that's happening alongside it where the studio, publisher, industry person is getting a lot of heat.

As I've mentioned above if you remove his comments about the threats his entire statement is so hollow, where he seems to miss the point and it just looks like an overall bad response to the ongoing situation. The statement doesn’t disprove any of the reports coming out about him, the studio, how he was apparently running it and how he treat people.

If people named and shamed these trolls online then it doesn’t just help the victim but it helps other people who might suffer from this elsewhere as these people will start be more cautious, afraid of being publicly exposed in the future and will think twice about posting anything malicious. You'll be surprised how many of them use their real accounts and the last thing they will want is being exposed on their main where people will give them a taste of their own medicine. If people don't do anything or expose them then these kinds of people will just get away with it thinking they can keep on doing it to others where the problem just continues to grow.

I just hate the thought of these big companies (Hollywood does this aswell) making silly decisions and when they get heat for it they look for the usual online trolls who go a step to far, make them look bigger than they are and shift the blame to them as a get out of jail free card. When you then state your legit criticism in a fair manner you are grouped together with these horrible people and made to look like you are part of the problem, sweeping anything you have to say under the rug which is exactly what the company wants.

Michiel198978d ago

@fishy you got a way with words hahaha

Anyway what I think is that a random guy on the internet saying "kys devs" is not a death threat, if that were the case I've had plenty of death threats. When someone actually starts to name adresses, names of family members or shit like that, thats when I would label it as a death threat.

porkChop78d ago

"I mentioned it 'sometimes' comes across like that because when it happens it's usually linked up to a controversy that's happening alongside it where the studio, publisher, industry person is getting a lot of heat."

Are you expecting them to get death threats when the community is happy or something? When the studio/person is getting heat is exactly when people would be toxic enough to make those kinds of threats. So yeah that's usually going to be when it happens. That should be kind of obvious.

-Foxtrot78d ago (Edited 78d ago )

It doesn’t matter if people are happy or not, people get death threats and other awful s*** flung at them all the time for literally no reason

That’s what trolls do, they get off on it, so it doesn’t matter what’s going on it happens.

Scientists could come out tomorrow and announce online a cure for cancer and you’d still get those people being arseholes because that’s how sad they are

Even the average Joe can get attacked by trolls for no reason where they’ll send death threats, comments about that persons appearance or sexual out of line stuff unprompted.

Obviously it happens more when someone is getting heat but we can’t say it doesn't happen at all any other time, it does sadly.

Warner Bros. Admits MultiVersus Underperformed, Contributing to Another $100 Million Hit to Revenue

Free-to-play Smash Bros.-style brawler MultiVersus has significantly underperformed, Warner Bros. Discovery has admitted, contributing to a further $100 million writedown for the company’s games business in 2024.

The_Hooligan167d ago

Suicide squad took $200 million hit plus this took $100 million hit. I am sure the amount it took to make both of these failures they could have easily made a very nice Batman game and instead of taking a $300 million hit they could have made a nice return on the Batman game. Hell they could have also made a new Middle earth game as well with the combined budget of the above two games.

-Foxtrot167d ago

A nice Batman Beyond like game set in the Arkham-verse with Old Bruce mentoring Terry McGinnis. Would have been nice to see one of Kevin Conroys last Batman games have him passing the torch onto someone else.

Inverno166d ago

I would inject a Beyond game into my veinssss.

PapaBop165d ago

That's what happens when the person running the show has no experience in the games industry.

-Foxtrot167d ago

I feel MultiVersus would have been better as a full on game over live service and maybe be more focused on old school Cartoon Network rather than mostly newer content like Steven Universe or Adventure Time. Those kinds of shows are still relevant today in other media while older characters have that nostalgic factor adult fans would have appreciated more.

goken165d ago

Warner can’t seem to get anything right recently.
It’s like they are throwing everything to see what sticks…
Hope they come up with something good soon

" focus onHogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC in particular Batman. "
~ did they forget there's an active game development going on at Monolith for another DC character?
Wonder Woman?

No shit... game is online only garbo

ZeekQuattro166d ago

This game had like Smash Brothers like hype on a lot of YouTube channels I followed when it first dropped before its removal. Not sure how they fumbled the ball this badly. Who but WB games.
