Season 4 of the open-world driving game will arrive next in a couple of months, with the long-awaited casino system and some new cars.
KT Racing assures that “despite the past, the future road ahead for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is bright.”
Solar Crown is finally starting to feel like a Test Drive Unlimited game – but it still has a long road to redemption.
everyone disappointed that there are no gameplay yet...
What the heck is this?
After all this time this is what they decide to show? This vague of a thing?
No gameplay.
Cringy as F voice acting - "together we drive"
B-tier developer (or maybe even C tier)
I loved Test Drive Unlimited 1.
I even loved Test Drive 3 in 1993.
But I'm not holding any hopes for this being good.
This franchise deserves better, but the thing is - if you want to create a good Test Drive game or Test Drive Unlimited game, you'd have to make a game which won't get big enough financing from current game publishers. They'll demand you to include micro transactions, make a ton of events, focus on hooking up the player, to make him engange in social side of the game and in-game store etc. etc.
None of it is what Test Drive Unlimited game should have.
No. Not in current "game as services" and "single player games are dead" mentality among corpo rats.
Even Forza Horizon series is not exactly what you could name "a good Test Drive Unlimited" if it had this name.
And FH had good budget and A-tier dev team.
Granted, TD:U from 2006 wasn't A-class all around. But it had the soul. It offered something unique. It wasn't generic and you could still find a ton of value even if some important factors were lacking.
After TD:U 1, it was only getting worse. TD:U2 was a disappointment. The next game made by most of the TD:U team was The Crew and it had bits of TD:U, but it was not TDU. The Crew 2 is just a generic "modern" game.
Then there was something which got cancelled, if I remember correctly (I could be wrong here)
And now this. Starting with the most offputting trailer of the year.
Test Drive deserves better. The game in the 90's had a "legend" status. The TD:U from 2006 was the best "let's race with some friends, or just drive around, for fun, no competition, just pure fun" game I ever played.
Even the late 90's Test Drive game was decent, although I only played a demo back in 1997 (or so)
It deserves A-tier dev team and A-class budget. And a soul instead of "Game as a service" BS.
