There does seem to be some needless aggression in the air. The Pro has really ruffled feathers, and while I get why, it’s just something you have to deal with. A certain “neutral” someone in here now slings insults when questioned. Quite the turnaround from just a few years ago.
For the rest of us who actually bought the thing, it’s a fantastic piece of kit. Literally every game I’ve tried on it is a clear step above its PS5 counterparts and only rivaled by PC versions. Even PC struggles with UE5, so if devs can use this kit to better ports, that is welcome news.

Yeah rows... Im still more neutral than most here and because of that I can question things accordingly. if that is insulting to you then that is a YOU problem because I dont just go off half cocked at every chance like others do. I see people defending this thing because they have a vested interest in it... it doesnt need defending, it needs to show itself and why it has to be a must buy for the diehard fans. I am reminded of the 4Pro and it took the game God of War to really showcase how much better the Pro was to the base 4. This thing isnt going to get that same kind of chance because the base 5 is already so good and has yet to even be fully realized let alone need a Pro to save the day.
And as ive stated many time, my mind can change and i will get one but I need some serious convincing (like GoW did) to make me shell out another $700 to get this when i could just wait a couple more years and get a 6 which will eclipse this anyway for probably the same price.

You are NOT more neutral than most here. I don't care what you tell yourself. You have a preference and the past few weeks is a clear indication of that. And you had absolutely no reason to say what you said to Einhander. Don't try to claim neutrality when your behavior says otherwise, especially calling people "parrots" and the like. Now, there's not necessarily anything wrong with a preference and people can defend what they want to defend. You do it all the time with Xbox, so of course people are allowed to like what they like. Otherwise, yeah, it's all good.

@AAA... Im glad you asked. The 2tb X is a special edition and not the standard. Price wise its $100 more than a 1tb x and also $100 less than a 5 pro, so it sits in between when it should have been priced at the same $500 as the regular X and that one should be priced to sell to clear out if they plan on making it the new standard. I get that prices havent really been making the changes like usual, but its been 4 years now and even the 512gb S is still priced at $300 when that should be $200 or less to clear them out and make the 1tb S $300 if they want to stay the course. And MS said from the beginning they would not be releasing a Pro console because the X is their premium and the S their budget. If they were to change their mind... hell yeah I call out that shit as well because they arent even making full use of their X to begin with. Just like Sony and the base 5. Its not hard to see that what should be a premium for a better experience (doing something the base cannot) is more of a cash grab on the PS side because at least with the X it CAN do things the S cannot. Where the S generally gets sidled with only one mode, the X offers two. now if sony were to all of a sudden remove the option to run in performance or quality mode on the base 5 and make that a pro only feature, not only would that be a shit move to the millions of existing 5 users but it would be considered something the Pro could do that the base 5 cannot... Do you understand now? Making it do something the other cant adds value and just combining perf/quality modes is not the flex people think it is so long as the option to run either still exists for the base model.
And yes you can be more neutral while having a preference... being more neutral (in this hobby) is finding the balance to play all the platforms across the board, which I do. I have a very good understanding of all of them and can give my own real world experience as examples where those who are one sided can only give their one sided view (while shitting on the other).
All i want is for people to stop being so negative towards the things they have no interest in. that is XB gamers shitting on PS and PS gamers shitting on XB and both shitting on Nintendo because there is something fun to be found in all of them. you just have to be open to playing the field. Lets look back at the 4Pro (since you brought it up). the 4Pro was able to do stuff the base 4 could not. Like run games in higher res as well as improved frame rates. Where the base 4 would sometimes struggle to maintain 30fps... the Pro would make that solid and even higher into the 45-60 range depending on the game and there was no choice of performance / quality back then. it did it by virtue of being a better machine AND it was priced at the same as the base 4 originally released at. It was more bang for the buck by comparison.
The Series X is like the 4Pro in that it too can run games in higher res and faster frames by default compared to the Series S. Then you can use performance or quality modes in games that offer it for even better image quality and performance over the Series S. Its effectively the Pro console for XB and priced at only $500. the 5Pro is an "I dont know who this thing is for" console because its coming out at a time where we havent even seen the base 5 pushed to the point of warranting a Pro like we saw with the 4/Pro when it came out.
this is the hill i am willing to die on because it just isnt worth it "right now". This entire generation has been a clusterfuck compared to last. Maybe thats because these companies have yet to fully remove themselves from the 8th gen, so we are very underwhelmed by what is being passed off as 9th gen games when they are really 8.5 gen. both Series X and PS5 do better at running 8th gen games because 9th gen has yet to fully start...
Maybe by the end of this gen a 5Pro will really shine as by then they will have let go of the past and started making games that really showcase its capabilities compared to the base 5. you know... new stuff that make it worth having rather than just combining perf/quality.

People make out the Pro to be superior to a decent PC, it's not. It's good, but PC is still better overall. See DF's latest video, 4070 20+ fps faster than Pro, better RT (Pro is lower than the low setting on PC) and Pro has a fair amount of shimmering on the floor, and CPU bound games will show the same limitations as the original PS5.

People were saying that the Pro is like a 4070, obviously not, but you can get a close equivalent AMD card right now (RDNA4 and RTX 5000 early next year) and a much more recent and better CPU, overall system cost just a few hundred more than the PS5 Pro minus the cost of the disc drive.

Why? No one's forcing you to get one and all the games will run great on standard PS5.
Good luck playing with windows, installing drivers weekly, dealing with half dozen store fronts, and checking websites to get optimum settings every time you want a quick gaming session. It's an all digital market too, no physical.
I have a £2.5k pc rig, but hardly ever touch it for gaming. Couch console experience is absolutely miles better than fiddling with PCs, and I say that as someone who has had a state of the art pc for at least 30 years. I was a developer for over 2 decades which is why I always have one, but when I want to chill with a game I always reach for a console.
If your post is genuine then I genuinely hope you enjoy it more than I ever have, for a lot of casual gamers, it's an expensive mistake

Key being right here: The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 demo runs considerably better on the newly released system than on the base system without a dedicated patch that would allow the demo to take full advantage of the PS5 Pro's power and features.
If I ran something with a 3080 and then the same thing with a 3090, I'd also get improved performance with no patch required. Food for thought I guess.

That unreal demo was amazing, to bad it was “unreal” and stayed as a proof of concept.

I would love to see a new matrix game. That is indeed a game world that has plenty of story and gameplay potential.
I’ll only play a Matrix game if it has more Neo and Trinity. I saw the 4th Matrix movie and can’t tell you the names of anyone else.
I think I managed about 30 minutes of Resurrections before turning it off, which is bad considering the original Matrix is probably my favourite movie of all time.

The Xbox Series S is, on paper, every bit as feature-rich as the Series X. It's based on the same fundamental RAM, storage, CPU, and GPU technologies - which of course means that it is ray tracing capable. You can absolutely get RT acceleration on the system, just like any other RDNA 2-based hardware platform.
The S is a pretty impressive machine. I could see MS transitioning it to a more portable form factor if they so desired. Maybe even team up with Valve to make steamdeck 2 essentially a portable Series S.
I don't know why Microsoft hasn't taken any initiative in making a more gaming-friendly Surface Laptop. They had those 1-2 cycles with one or two AMD variants but those aren't part of the lineup anymore. AMD announced new mobile chips with massive battery life and Surface hardware financials are nosediving - in the face of Steam Deck, Windows on ARM continuing to be ASS, and Nvidia gaming laptops ever growing, MS could really use a shakeup.

Reducing the amount of power reduces the amount of heat which reduces the need for the current heat dissipation design which can lead to a reduced overall size and make it more portable.
It's really not that hard to figure out as it has been done for decades with each revision of hardware over the course of a platforms lifecycle.
MS will never team up with Valve. They run competing stores on PC. Also, the Series S hardware couldn’t work as a handheld. That giant cooling fan is an indicator of the kind of heat that is pumped out by those chips. I don’t see much investment from Microsoft into ARM based chips and mobile graphics chips.
...well not in its current state. I swear people all of a sudden just forgot how chip technology evolves. Just look at something like the PS2 and PS2 slim. Same tech but they cut the size to 1/4 of the original. If we apply the same logic to something that is digital in nature, the series s can be shrunk down to roughly the same size as the slim ps2 or possibly even smaller. If the PSP is basically a portable PS2 and the Vita a PS3 then why is it so hard to think there could be a portable series s?
I have no doubts about 'could it be done'... the bigger question is 'would it be done'? That is for MS to decide. And looking at the steamdeck for comparison, the deck is pretty much already a portable PS4 so if it had a beefier CPU/GPU (like the Series S) then yes it can be done as a portable. Dont be surprised if steam deck 2 comes out as a 4tf or even 6tf machine. Like i said above, shrinks happen.
