Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Announced for PS4 For West; Cross-Play with Xbox & PC Confirmed

Sega just announced via press release that Phantasy Online 2: New Genesis will finally come for PS4 in the west.

Yeah, New Genesis was such a disappointment. I put 150 hours into PSO2, but when New Genesis came out, all that momentum screeched to a halt, and I don't quite know what happened still. I think the content was lacking.

this is way too late for me personally. They should done this once they shut down the old Vita version at the very least.

To me it felt like such a slap to the face when they announced it for Xbox instead of playstation. I'll never play another phantasy star because of that move.

I cant remember was that not long after sony knocked sega out of consoles. Maybe they were salty still. Theres a couple ps2 star ocean games i cant remember exactly what their called but they got translations and can be played ie a certain way

Sony didn't knock Sega out of the console business.

Sega's mismanagement did that. They had too many money losing ventures that they couldn't overcome the debt for. The Genesis and the Dreamcast were the only two profitable systems they put out. Everything else they lost money on.

If anything, Nintendo beating them did more damage than what Sony did.

new genesis is bad, the combat is poor, the content.... theres nothing to do, i was trying to get a new mmorpg to play and new genesis was a let down like lost ark.

Phantasy Star Universe was on the PS2 as well. And PSO2 was available for the PS4 for a long time now in Japan.

But the slap in the face Magatsuhi is referring to is the fact that PSO2 was already on the Vita and they pretty much shut out their Playstation audience all this time while giving the game to the xbox audience. It would be one thing to have done a dual release. Instead, they blocked off their biggest audience for years. When it comes to jrpg games, more often than not, the majority of that audience is on playstation.

And in the end, they hurt their own product because it's been so long that most people won't care about this game coming to the PS4 in the west anymore. Not to mention the heavy abuse of microtransactions the game has become doesn't do it any favors either.

Haven't heard much good about Phantasy Star after the latest expansion unlike other MMOs that had expansions with major praise from both reviewers and players.
