From Ign; F.E.A.R. 2 Multiplayer Hands-on
We get our hands dirty with the online modes in Monolith's scarefest shooter. Be afraid.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin might not be the most popular online game right now, but at least they're giving away a map-pack. The "Toy Soldier" pack will be available free-of-charge in mid-April on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360 and PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3. If you were wondering why the maps were available earlier in the week on LIVE and then pulled down, rest assured. They were always meant to be free. This should clear up any confusion and make everything crystal clear for you folks playing F.E.A.R. 2's multiplayer.
The "Toy" part of the map pack's name springs from the fact that players will be shrunken down to tiny size and battle other well-armed-and-armored shrimps for dominance and presumably -- table crumbs.
Shooting shrinky-dinks is an interesting concept, but I thought F.E.A.R. 2 was a horror game. I'm intrigued enough to try it out though. The price is, as they say, "Right."
FEAR 2 is essentially FEAR with a little more content and a lot more of naked Alma harassing you, and while that was fine two years ago, now? Not so much. It looks fine, sounds great, plays fine, and is generally able to hold your interest about as well as one might expect as a single-player game, and there are enough multiplayer options and modes to keep you interested for some time. However, the game doesn't do anything you haven't seen before, the story isn't executed particularly well, there are odd gameplay and AI flaws that diminish the product a bit, and the game just feels like more of the same in most respects.FEAR 2 is certainly worth checking out, as it's still good enough to be worth playing through if you're interested, but it's hard to recommend the game as a must-have title simply because if you ARE a fan of the genre, you'll have played better games than this, and if you're NOT a fan, it's hard to imagine this is going to capture your interest when other, better games have failed.
While FEAR 2 isn't the be-all, end-all of either horror games or first person shooters, it successfully builds on the strengths and eliminates most of the issues found in the previous games. The game might be easier than expected and it probably won't leave you terrified of playing it at night, but it successfully creates a sense of atmosphere, mixed with some really intense combat. FEAR 2 might not be a revolutionary title, but its a damn fun game.
but i see myself only playing two games this spring
SF4 and KILLZONE2 over and over again
I'm playing right now and have to agreed this game is damn good, the atmosphere it projects is genuine to the original F.E.A.R and the combat system is one of the best of any fps, everyone should give it a go and not just judge it by the demo as the full game is completely different and the story is worth it for any F.E.A.R fan.
I bought this game from game stop its absolutely horrid. Its going back to game stop tomorrow because my investment will be in killzone 2.
I was a fear fan but this game lacks some serious depth and does not feel modern at all. Hasta la vista baby
This won't be good, I guarantee it.
