I played Sonic Frontiers and it makes a staggeringly awful first impression - GamesRadar

It is hard to find anything to like in Sonic Frontiers.

I remember when dynasty warriors went open world, that didn't go well and now we got this. Hmmm was sonic adventure an open world.

Well to be fair dynasty warriors changed multiple things that put people off, the open world aspect was actually not that bad, just buggy (they did fix it with DW9 Empires btw) but mostly the new combat system was massively oversimplified which was one of the bigger gripes fans had with the game.

Been playing since DW1 (the fighting game) myself and I don't mind the open world aspect as much + they need to learn which they can only do by trying something new and then make DW10 actually really good if they keep this format, but again DW9 Empires fixed most of the problems that Vanilla had except for the simplified combat that is still there :(.

From what I played from the f2p version the scenes were ps2 era robotic no emotion to the talking etc. Open world was a dead world and they went cheap and replaced the voice actors with bad ones

Game looked like trash, actually any sonic that isn't a 2D side scrolling game is garbage. Sonic adventures was okay but I don't get why they don't understand we want beautifully hand drawn sprites, great music and fast platforming in a 2d plain.....would be cheaper and actually fun

Sonic adventures 2 was pretty damn amazing, though. I could never stop playing it and I'm still not that much of a sonic fan.

both of my kids have switches. all of their little kid friends have switches. 1 of my adult friends has a switch. he bought it for zelda and hasn't used it since. i think there's a LOT of younger kids on switches, it seems like common sense. you dont have to take offense to that. thats up to you.

Such a shame what we're seeing from Sonic Games, there's been a few good ones down the line... but to me ever since Sonic Adventure 2 the rest has been worse and worse (except for rehashes of the old game in some of the titles but that's not the same as a good new Sonic).

Just make Sonic Adventure 3 already, funnily enough that game could have some open world aspects (the old ones sorta did with zones and the zones included entrances to the stages).

Sonic died after Sonic Adventure 2, but Sonic Adventure was much better. Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast was probably SEGA’s last AAA Sonic game. Why didn’t SEGA develop Sonic Adventure 3? In frontiers, Sonic looks lost as if he’s been thrown into another game. I was a massive SEGA fan, maybe not sure much when it went multi platform, but it lost the plot soon after. Sick of all these classic collections they keep releasing. Under SEGA AGES, l expected to see OutRun 3, Baku Baku Animal 2, Virtua Racing 2, even some new 2D games such as Golden Axe 4, ESWAT 2 etc. So many SEGA games should’ve made the grade, but sadly didn’t. Always fancied a Witcher style Golden Axe game.

I have been very critical of how Sega have marketed this game, but this article is trash. It's a desperate attempt for clicks when you are bringing up Sonic 2006 16 years later. Like seriously, get over it. Also, complaining about the story having a more serious tone to it because 06 "had Sonic kiss a human" is a pathetic reason not to do a serious story. You can tell this person never actually played the game or even saw the cutscene themselves because they would have realised that Sonic never actually kissed anybody, he was practically dead when Elise kissed him.
