The platform saw some great improvements in its interface thanks to constant updates. It also gained some traction thanks to big blockbusters such as Metal Gear Solid 4.
Those hardware updates put the console in a significantly better place than it was just a year ago. In-game XMB, a feature that gamers wanted from launch, finally made its debut earlier this year, as did the DualShock 3. For PS3 owners looking to match their Xbox 360-owning buddies' Gamerscores, Sony introduced trophies, which seem to emphasize quality over quantity. Sony also stepped in to resolve the hardware incompatibility issues facing plastic guitarists, so last year's dramatic cross-compatibility issue didn't haunt Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour."
